After staying at a couple of other resorts/hotels on the Keys, the Marriott was actually a very welcomed relief. But, be careful if you book a trip through their dive service, we booked a fishing trip on our last day, and were told we would be able to check out when we got back, but our captain didnt get us back until 2:30, we were supposed to be back at 2:00, and we had arranged to check out at 2:30, when we got back, they charged us another half day to get into the room and get our stuff out, and then said we had to be out by 5:00. I have never heard of anything like this, it was their hired captain that caused us to be late! I would think that the $537.00 (not including tip), it cost us to go fishing would have made up for the late checkout! I have notified Marriott corporate about this, but sadly have not heard any type of response from them at all! Although every place we stayed at was clean, we did have an ant problem with one, and a flooding problem at another (it was a "Dive" if you get my hint dont stay here), but absoutely no issues at the Marriot, other than parking, their free for all parking really sucks, they might want to consider assigning designated spots near the room you are staying in we ended up parking by the dive shop, but our room was on the otther end of the hotel. I definately recommend that you request a bay view, and get on one of the upper floors, (we stayed in 303), the view is fantastic, and background noise is minimal. Dont plan on eating any meal other than breakfast. The chef tries to hard to get fancy on some very common dishes, and ends up making them in to something barely etible. Like I said breakfast is done phonominally (as compared to other places on the Keys). We had our fresh caught fish prepared by the same creative chef, and I would not reccomend that at all. Afterward some of the locals told us that the "Hobos Cafe" is the place to have your fresh catch prepared. While I am thinking of it, stear clear of the Conch Restaurant. The tiki bar by the pool leaves much to be desired, ridiculously over priced and horrible service. If you are looking for a beech on Key Largo, good luck! The Marriott does promote the beech that they have (wich is definately more sand than we found any where else), but dont expect to enjoy a nice swim in the ocean, as they really haven;t done much to groom the area, there are weeds everywhere! All in all when it comes to the Keys, this is probably the best you can do in the Key Largo area. The staff was polite and curteous for the most part. and if you are thinking about "Back Country" fishing we would deffinately reccommend Tony,"The Lying Hawiian", he did a great job and put us on the fish, including a couple of great sharks we caught! If I ever go back to the Keys, I will probably stay there again. Just know what you are getting into, and ask them to let you take a look around before you accept a room, and deffinately negotiate the price, we were there over the Fourth of July, and I know we paid several hundred less than some other guests.

As a category 6 hotel I went into this vacation with a general expectation of quality for the value. The room wasnt bad but there was nothing special about it, but the service and specific amenities were terrible. The service of the front desk staff was my first impression and it started bad then went worse. We called ahead of time to make sure that our reservations were handled properly but were told that there were many vacancies and this would be easy to handle When we arrived we were informed by the front desk staff that this would be impossible. They then became indignant, defensive, and rude but eventually sorted things out and gave us our keys. With no line in front of us, the check in process took 30 minutes. We were called to go back to the front desk so they could fix our keys, then told that they couldnt and each morning wed need to go back down and check in again. Again the staff was rude and condescending. After an hour on the phone and talking to the front desk I managed to cancel the last two nights of our stay so we could change to the Key west resort. When I went to turn in our towel cards I was accosted by the same front desk worker Arnette demanding the names of who was in our rooms. After I answered and took two steps away, the other desk staff turned to her and said "You handled that very well." Completely unprofessional and inappropriate to say in front of me, regardless of how they felt. When I spoke with Sam the customer service manager he defended his staff and seemed to care little about what I was saying. The quality of the hotels beach was also terrible. What is described on their site as "a pristine private beach" is actually a place with little packed down sand, the water is full of weeds, and a floating platform that is covered in bird feces. When I mentioned this to Sam (customer service manager) he just explained to me that I shouldnt expect a nice beach because the keys dont have nice beaches, but he did promise to have the bird feces checked into. In summary, the staff was rude, the customer service manager just made excuses, and the premises were very low quality, especially for how it is advertised. I will never stay at this hotel again. I recommend going to Key West Beachside. Their staff was very friendly and accommodating, the room quality was excellent, and the beach was very nice.

We went down to this hotel for a wedding over the weekend. The wedding was great but the staff and management at the hotel are clueless. I have never taken the time to put in a negative review anywhere but this one had to go up. When we got there we were told our room was not ready yet (it was about 2pm) and that they did not guarantee the room to be ready till after 3pm. We explained that we had the wedding at 4:30 and that we need to get ready. The girl at the front desk was very rude and did not care. My wife ended up having to go to her friends room to start getting ready and I decide to cool off by the tikki bar so problem solved. We get a call about an hour later stating our room is ready. Things were looking up! I got to the front desk and checked in. I walked up to the room with all the luggage and the key did not work. So I trekked back down and explained they situation. They apologized and made me another key. This key did not work either. Trying to keep calm I went back laughing and said try again. They apologized and said they gave me the wrong room and sent me up to another one. I told myself this has to work and again carrying my luggage with me. Surprise the key did not work! Now I was upset! I got down there and spoke to the manager Sam. The employee that gave me the wrong key multiple times was now hiding. Sam said he was on my side and he understood what was going on. Sam then made me a key and apologized. I went up to the room again tried the key and guess what it worked, however this time, with my wife by my side when the door opens there was a naked man standing there!!! WTF! I apologized told him what happened and he called the front desk. I went down to see Sam and give him a piece of my mind but I could not get to upset because the whole wedding party was in the lobby dressed and ready to go while I was still in my shorts because the room was still not ready. Sam basically was patronizing me and told me there was nothing he could do but give me Marriott points....BS. This place could be so great if they had a competent staff. I was not the only one of the wedding guest to have problems. Marriott needs to go in there and clean house. These people are ruining there brand.
