Aside from the fact that you can decide how to wash your car, and that the owner Stuart was initially (emphasis added) friendly, I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone who cares about the paint on their cars. The brushes that are used at Kirkwood Car Wash are supposedly "soft hogs hair brushes", but if you were to feel them, they are actually somewhat rough. To make matters worse, there are often gravel and other sand particles that are deeply embedded throughout the brush, which no amount of rinsing would be able to remove. Therefore, what was supposed to be a fuss free $10 car wash ended up becoming a major headache for me as I now have multiple scratches all over my car. And I am very sure that they were caused by the brushes because some of the scratches are of a swirl-ish nature, which corresponds with the owner Stuarts recommendation to use the brush in a swirl-ish manner to "get the best friction" - seems like in this case, there was too much unwanted friction caused by the brush and/or the deeply embedded gravel. To make matters worse, when I approached Stuart nicely to seek an amicable remedy, he turned around and insisted that the car detailers pre-sale must have covered up the blemishes which I had uncovered by my washing. This is incredulous since the car has been through rain and snow without the supposed "blemishes" being "uncovered". Moreover, the swirl-like scratches leads me to the single, irresistible conclusion that the brushes and/or the gravel led to the said scratches. So unless you want your cars paint to be scratched, I wouldnt recommend Kirkwood Car Wash, or at least its horrendous brushes. Save yourself the trouble of having to fix your cars paint!

I have literally been coming here since 1996 and nothing has changed except for all of the upgrades and a slight hike in the price naturally because of the economy. I own a 24 Hour Roadside Assistance company, HURT Roadside Assistance and have been bringing our fleet vehicles here for quite some time. The same owner still runs and manages the location and for only $2.00, you can get an excellent do-it-yourself car wash. It is located in a safe, well lit and secure location right in the heart of Kirkwood which borders North Decatur and Atlanta. It is not far from the City of Atlanta downtown area at all. Also, it is right next to a fire station and police precinct so you never have to worry about safety. Whenever Im there....... the owner is always friendly and on occasion with bump my time up on the machine so that I can get extra time for a wax or whatever I want to do to my car. They are also right next to a BP Gas station, a library and across the street from a string of eateries. I love this place and would recommend them to anyone !

Being from an area with many self serve car washes, I set out to find a similar one in Atlanta. I prefer the self serve type for the money savings and for knowing that I am to blame for how the job gets done. No one takes better care of their car than the owner. This place is very reasonably priced, had high quality washers (a lot of pressure), and great cleaning products. After returning for the second time to wash my car, the owner stopped by and offered me a few pointers for getting the best cleaning job. My car came out looking great for about $5, way cheaper than anywhere else Ive found in the area. Some car washes have low pressure and really diluted cleaners, but this is the complete opposite. I left with a great clean car, friendly helpful advice and will definitely be returning. You cannot beat this combo of price and quality!!!

Never go here. It is a rip off. I pulled my car into the wash overhang and put in $2 worth of quarters to begin washing. I found it strange that after I made it around my car once that it had timed out on me already. I put another $2 in the machine and then timed the machine, it began to sound at 90 seconds, then turned off at 2 minutes.... That is ridiculous! One dollar per minute is not a deal and not worth my time. By the time one would finish you surely would have put in either 6 or 8 dollars, it would be cheaper, easier, more efficient and definitely more effective to just go to a drive through wash. Highly advise avoiding this place!

I usually steer clear of the "do-it-yourself" car washes, if I wanted to do it myself I would stay home, but I found this on google and its changed my mind. I agree with the previous reviews, the owner was very friendly (I had run into him at the post office earlier, he was friendly there as well) and a well the facility was welI kept, I will be returning. As a note the change machine is in the middle, it can be a little finicky but it worked. I would say for a good quality wash depending on the dirt in/on your car be ready to spend as much as 20 bucks for a filthy (inside and out) car or 8.00 for a pretty well kept car.

I just like washing my own car... I also have a BMW, and need a place to clean the brake dust build up (that BMWs are notorious for) off on a regular basis. My sister told me about this place - I think this must be the only self-serve car wash in town. So glad its close to my home! The property is under full surveillance with signs posted everywhere which makes me feel safe. The vacuums and wash bays are in great condition and everything works... Keep up the good work owners! Thanks so much for having a great place for us to wash our cars!

Stopped by to rinse off all the pollen that has been caked on my car for the past week and was pleasantly surprised by what I found. The facility is as expected for a manual car wash - what I found unexpected was the gentleman working the car wash, Darryl. He took the time to show me how to get my car to "showroom finish" and in a way that maximized my quarters. I saw him diplomatically handle a disputes with a customer in the stall next door all without expecting any in return. Ill likely be a regular now.

I never thought I would gush about a car wash, but this place is great. All of the chemicals are stocked all the time, everything works and works well. The owner was there one time I went, introduced himself and asked me how everything was (excellent) and gave me a token for a free wash. This is just what Kirkwood needs...more businesses that are aimed at the general public that have a real commitment to excellence. The fact that its blocks from my house makes it even better.

the washing bays sucked, but the vacuum didnt I tried two vacuums, neither had enough suction power to clean even light dirt or small leaves from my cars carpet or seats. I was frustrated but stayed to use the washing bay. The panel of services listed "spot-free rinse" but that function did not work either. I wasted time and precious quarters and still need to go elsewhere to get my car clean. I will not return to Kirkwood Car Wash nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Great spot! My poor car was desperate for a deep cleaning, this place had everything I needed. I expected it to be a do-it-yourself place (which it is) but the attendant, Eddie, was extremely helpful. He did 10 x a better job than I would have done. This guy did everything from shampooing my carpets, to detailing my tires, to shining my dashboard with Armor All (Let alone washing my car). Ill definitely be a customer at this place for a long time.
