I would say this company is the worst moving company that I have encountered. I found this company through Thumbtack, since I was not sure who to go with in Chicago. They kept calling me to sign up with their service for about 2 months and after talking to few companies, I went ahead and signed up and set up a date about 3 to 4 weeks in advance. The move was setup for a Saturday in the afternoon, since the building I was moving to required a reservation of the elevator. Family moving calls me up on Thursday, stating the movers will be coming between the hours of 12 - 2 PM, I thought that would be enough time to move just the big pieces of the 2BR apartment move. Well, that is when the horror started, the movers didnt show up until 5:15 PM, I was the one to keep calling and trying to find out where they were at. I called the regular phone # and also used their emergency # too. I kept getting the message from the person that I reached from my calls, they will be by me in about 15 - 30 minutes and kept going that way until they finally showed up. I could not get a straight answer when they would actually be there, so I waited at the apartment stressing out from 2 PM for 3 hours. It would not have been a big deal, if I didnt have to worry about the reservation of the elevator at the new building, since, they only allowed the moves until 4:30 PM. I stressed this to the movers when I signed up and when I made the calls on the day of the move. Well, as I stated the above was the start of the nightmare of the move. On Monday morning, I spoke to the building manager and got an approval to use the elevator for the move in the morning and I made my call to the driver and told him as such. They showed up and started to move the furniture for the 2 bedrooms, the sofa set and one 65" television and one 51" television. On this day, I was working from home and thought that everything will be good now. The driver was nice enough and mentioned that they will discount the price of the move. So, thinking that everything is good and I am getting my stuff moved in, after sleeping on the carpet for 2 days. The driver gave me papers to sign off on the move as they were moving and I did not think much of that I should wait and sign the papers after I inspect all of my stuff that they moved. The signing of the papers ahead of time is one of the big mistakes I made and a lawyer friend of mine pointed that this is a very expensive lesson that I should learn from. The reason is, they put all the big pieces away and put up the two TVs at the end. I didnt notice anything unusual about the TVs until couple hours later after the movers left, that I went to go hook up the wiring, first for the 65" TV, when I got close I noticed the screen was cracked in several places, then I went and checked the other TV and it had cracks too. I right away called the Family Moving company and they transferred me to a gal that mentioned she would send claim forms. I filled out the claim forms and sent pictures of the screens and gave my side of the story. I thought things would be fine at this time, but about 2 days later, I got an email, stating that they are denying the claim, because I did not inspect the TVs when the movers were there and I signed off on the move. It was very frustrating to read that email, especially after going through the turmoil of them showing up late and having my stuff for 2 days and then what occurred with the TVs. Also, I just recently found out they did not drop off 6 foot aluminum ladder. The move was during the Easter weekend, so its been about 2 weeks. I did not contact the moving company, knowing how they handled the situation with the TVs, that I thought it would be a waste of time. I know I cant go back in time, so, thats how this review came to life. I would stay far away from the Family Moving & Storage company. I am telling everyone, how horrible this moving company is and I was told to write a scathing review and this is how this post came to life. My recommendation is you talk to friends and get referrals from them.

Worst Movers not worth to proceed unless you are ready to spend more $$$ & time. I have done couple of moves with different movers earlier but never faced or seen these type of movers. They are registered but still worse than any other local movers without registered. I have used this company service in Jun 2016 for short local move within same city. I would like to share my experience so other people can make a proper decision before proceeding with this company. Schedule: Came 2hrs late after my scheduled time window which messed up my other schedules. Price/Estimate: Office people gave me estimate approx. 3 to 4 hrs max for moving based on my inventory but the moving crew took 7hrs+ to complete the move.so you can understand how much additional money I spent on these slow moving crew of which at least 1 crew did not work for most of time.so technically 2 crew did the job but they charged for 3 crew. Care for Items: No Care for the items as if any damage happens they pay 0.30cent per pound so based on this you calculate your stuff. Hope our stuff is more valuable than what they pay that also depends based on their own investigation & discretion to pay for damage. My furniture bedframe, sofa was damaged even after paying extra $$$ for packing & wrapping. Blankets & wrapping: Don’t expect blankets to be same as you seen with other moving companies. These guys blankets are have complete their life span & they are still using which will does not give any protection our furniture or goods, torn & so thin like papers. Delivery: Damaged goods will be hidden/undelivered until they received the final payment. Once payment is received then they will unload the damaged ones. Claims: I spent so much of time to process my claim but finally felt nothing exist in real. If they damage happened be ready to spend additional number of hours in reading papers, submission & follow ups, as they will tell in moving industry has so much paper work for claims approx. time frame 3 months no guaranteed. No caring or helping – very rude nature. Claims will be handled by Travis – he is very rude to deal. Communication: Very polite until you make reservation, once done forget about communication does not even care to return to your voice mails & mails. No calls will be answered on the day of move as they are not responsible. I think these guy will give subcontract the work to some other guys. Just try this to know: Instead of saying looking for move state “move completed would like to talk” – then their real voice will be heard.

After having a confirmed move date for 3 movers (talked to someone the day before) for a Saturday 8-10AM move, I had not heard anything the day of. I was told to expect a call a half hour prior to their arrival, so I called at 9:30. I was told they were probably on their way and that the customer service rep would have the dispatcher call me. For 2 hours I was calling the same customer service rep back and forth who could do nothing for me. I was denied the phone number to the dispatcher and movers. I was on hold for 10 minutes during a failed transfer to dispatcher, and then the same rep picked up again. I worked my butt off for this move all week long to make sure I would be ready at 8AM, I had to be moved into my apartment today. I wrote half of this this while waiting around an empty room. 9 phone calls later, I got in touch with a supervisor who made some calls and got 2 movers. The movers arrived an hour and a half later than the supervisor told me to expect them, so in total, they were four and a half hours late. Unprofessional, inconsiderate, and rude. I was not given the common courtesy of a phone call while they were working this all out. If there were delays, they shouldnt have affected my 8AM move. If there were delays, all they had to do was call me and let me know, but I had to keep pestering them. In the end, they offered to give me the 2 man rate (for 2 men) and waived the packaging fees (about $20 worth). I spoke to a supervisor to get additional savings for my trouble, and he did agree to my terms. Im a 26 year old guy, about to move in with his wonderful girlfriend, and it takes a lot to upset me. This is the first negative review of anything I have ever written – thats how angry I am. I would recommend to friends, family, and strangers to choose another company that might put forth the necessary effort for such important events.
