My wife and I used New City Moving just recently to transfer our things from a studio on the northside to a 3 bedroom on the southside. We initially chose New City for their high rating on Yelp (theyre the highest rated mover in Chicago, in fact), and we were extremely pleased with the entire experience. My wife and I packed most of the stuff in our apartment before the movers had arrived (they were half an hour early, which was perfect for us, but they also let us know that they would gladly wait until the scheduled time if thats what we preferred—huge+ !), but we still needed them to pack up our bigger items—furniture, etc. They were extremely fast and very careful. As far as I can tell, not a single item was so much as scuffed in the moving process! The office staff was always friendly and prompt with their communication, and the movers themselves were great guys. Though the company charges by the hour for their labor, the movers nonetheless flew through the process of packing our furniture and getting it down to the truck. I dont think I saw any of them break for even a moment even in the 100+ degree weather. And all three were making trips with 5 or 6 boxes strapped to their backs at a time. Im a strong guy, but when one of the movers strapped 4 boxes of books to his back, each box weighing about 50lbs., I was dumbstruck by their strength and dedication to getting the move done. We were on a tight budget for our move, and were extremely happy that they were able to complete the entire job for several hundred dollars under their initial estimate! More often than not Ill be able to think up something (anything) negative for a company that Im reviewing—especially, one would think, a moving company who ought, in all likelihood, to damage something worth complaining about—but in this case I can think of absolutely nothing negative to say! In terms of price, ease, peace of mind, etc., etc., I would, without any doubt or hesitation whatsoever, recommend this company to anyone in need of going through the tedious and mundane process of moving. They made everything way, way easier!

I 100% recommend New City Movers. It was our first time leveraging a moving company for our last move, and given the reviews, we tried these guys out. They were quick to respond with quotes, having you itemize all of the pieces of furniture you planned to move and helping you approximate the number of boxes given the size of place to provide an estimate. We thought the estimated time was high, but I think they do that so you dont get sticker shocked with the final amount - our final payment came in around half what was quoted as the guys were pretty efficient. On day of, they were there and started exactly on time (we were the first of the morning). They were extremely polite and courteous, had us walk them through what we planned to have moved, and went to town. They were extremely careful with all of our furniture, supplying blankets and wrap to cover them, and we experienced no damages (even to our cheap IKEA furniture!) they de-assembled table, beds, and couches an re-assembled where you tell them to at the new place. At the new place they checked in on where we wanted things placed which made it easier for us to unpack boxes. At the end (of the only 3 hours for our 2 bedroom apt!) they walked us through all of the charges (and had us check the truck) to make sure we were good with everything. Overall, I highly recommend movers, and I highly recommend New City Moving! A couple of small tips for other first time users of a moving company - we provided water bottles and the guys were really appreciative of that. Also, they state in the contract that they wont move dressers with clothes in drawers, but the lead guy for us said he doesnt know why they say that as he definitely would (so maybe good to check on that beforehand so you dont have to worry about separately packing those in boxes). Lastly, they came with wardrobe boxes ready as a last minute option for closet items. We didnt leverage as we had already packed them, but I wish we would have!

Superb movers! I have never in my life said that about movers, but New City is truly a different company and they made our move so easy, stress-free and FAST! My husband and I had to move in two parts as we closed our current condo before we closed on a new one so we had to put our entire place into storage for 2 weeks. I used a different moving company on the first phase, booking whomever was available so last minute. It was an absolute disaster and a total scam. They took over 8 hours to move us out of a condo to a first floor storage unit 4 blocks away. After that experience I said theres no way Im using the same company to move into our new place. I found New City from some recommendations and they were an absolute delight. We had to reschedule a few times because our close data kept moving- they were so flexible and helpful with this. When the day actually came, they called in the morning to confirm everything with me and made sure I had the number for dispatch in case I had any questions or issues (the other company didnt even call me to confirm, let alone give me contact information for anyone). We unfortunately had to schedule a 5:30pm move on a Friday because thats all we could get, so I hunkering down for a late night of moving based on our last experience. They packed us up from storage, moved us a mile and a half up the road, and had us into our new place (that has LOTS of stairs) in less than 3 hours. It was incredible. And everything was handled with care and the workers were nice and professional. I will never, ever, ever, ever use anyone but New City if moving locally again. I hope Ill be in our new place for a while, but I will only recommend New City to friends too. Theyre hourly rate is a bit higher than some of the other companies, but when they get the job done in less than half the time, you still save money. Theyre the best. Working with New City Moving was the least stressful part of our move! The staff who I spoke with to estimate the time and cost and to schedule the move were friendly, professional, and detailed. The estimate, which they also email you for confirmation, details all included and additional supplies and fees, so there were no surprises on moving day. I called on a Monday and was able to schedule our move for that Friday. Our move was scheduled on a Friday at 4:30pm. I was contacted that day around 11am, notified that the movers were ahead of schedule, and asked if they could start our move earlier. (They mention when you receive an estimate that afternoon moves should be prepared for this possibility and be ready to move 2 hours ahead of the scheduled time.) It seemed like they were ready to do my move right away, but I was not prepared at that time, so we agreed on 2:30pm and that was fine. The 3-man crew arrived right on time, did a walk-through of our 1-bedroom apartment and basement storage unit, and immediately got to work. They worked very efficiently and had everything packed in about 2 hours. After a short drive to our new place, they very efficiently unloaded the truck in under 2 hours, which put us under the estimated time and cost. Woot! During a past move with a different moving company, I felt the movers intentionally used excessive amounts of the additional supplies (shrink wrap and tape), which racked up the charges. The New City Moving crew seemed to use these materials appropriately and I was very happy with their work. I wouldnt say the moving crew was friendly, but they were polite and professional and worked quickly and carefully. To my knowledge, nothing was damaged. I will definitely use New City Moving for my next move and highly recommend them.
