In April, I called Roto-Rooter to clean out my sewage pipes. The drains were making their usual noise which meant I must have roots in the pipes. I called 5 plumbers and Roto-Rooter was the only one that said they could be there with in the hour. The two men showed up and began their job. While cleaning out my pipes, they discovered what they thought was a break in the pipe at the main sewer. I contacted the Village about their discovery. The Village came out and tried to access the pipe through my clean out and were unable to gain access because there was still roots in my system. This meant that I was going to have to wait until they could access the main with their camera which was in for repairs. I called Roto-Rooter again about my concern about the job that was done. This is when I had the absolute great fortune to have Roto-Rooter send out Herman Huertz, This man has restored my faith in Roto-Rooter. He came out and spent 4 hours cleaning out my sewer pipes. He then waited for the Village to come with their camera so they could take a look at the problem. The Village camera did not give them a good picture so again I was told they would have to access the main. Fast forward two weeks. The Village has still not put a camera down the main sewer and they promise to get to it the next week. Later that night, it starts pouring rain. It is 4 in the morning and my drains are starting to fill up with water. I go outside to open the clean out so that the water has some where to go. At this point, I am at my wits end about what I can do. I have dirty water coming out a hole in my back yard and an injector pump that is going off every two minutes. I call Roto-Rooter and they promise to come out and take a look. Again, I have the great fortune of the wonderful Herman to come to my rescue. He has a game plan. He promises me that he will find out what is causing this. He calls his supervisor and asks him to meet him on site with a camera. He sets up his equipment and puts the rooter down the hole. He makes sure that the pipe is free of all roots etc. They put the camera down and discover that the main joint in the Village sewer has shifted and is cracked. Knowing that I am not out of the woods yet, Herman and his Supervisor Al Divito let me call the Village to take a look at what they see. Long story short, the Village comes out and sees the problem and is scheduling the repair for this Monday. If Herman had not been so diligent I would be sitting right now waiting for an answer from the Village with no toilet, shower etc. I will be calling Roto-Rooter again in the fall to clean out my second sewer access. I would also like to say that Herman Huerta, technician number 8674, is one of the most knowledgeable and honest person I have met. He sat in crap (literally) to make sure my problem was fixed. I would recommend this man to anyone in a heart beat. Thank you very much Herman for everything you did. I would also like to thank Al Divito for his help also.

So I decided to take advantage of that "6 month warrantee" and called Roto Rooters to come back. I got a different guy this time. He rodded for a much longer time than Andre (the previous guy). He also used a camera. After rodding for over an hour he tells me that theres a large root about 7 feet below the tree in front of my house. Theres a different process to have that root removed and that would cost me an addition $6,000! I was pissed. I paid almost $500 a month ago, now theyre saying that I have to pay $6,000! Why would they think that Id be willing to give them $6000 if the $500 was basically a waste of time. Further, if I dont have that done the water will continue to come up and my "6 month guarantee" is null and void because it only covered 1 visit. Next I spoke to a manager Kris Kauth. He starts telling me that instead of $6,000 I could pay $221 for a PDP where the City would come out and look at the issue and see if they can do something. This option has no guarantees and its quite possible that the City will say that I need a full clean out on the property (the $6,000) job. Plus the City doesnt move fast so I may have to wait a long time, meanwhile my basement will continue to smell like sewage. I was not pleased at all with any of these options. Kris was very smug and lacking in empathy! When I pressed him for answers about why was I charged for a rodding that didnt work, he told me "I dont know. You have old clay pipes." I asked him if I could speak to his manager. He was very resistant but ultimately gave me the name of the General Manager "Paul Cecil." Stay tuned, Ill keep you updated. Original (written on 2/7/17 service on 1/17/2017): I had a sewage backup in my basement. It smelled awful! I was so sad. I called Roto-Rooter and they came out within a couple of days. Andre #8971 cleared my drain, and I havent had any issues since. The service was fast and Andre cleaned everything after he was done. Overall he did a great job! Ive had this issue once in the past. I payed a lot less for the service but I had a massive cleanup that I was responsible for. While its more expensive than a local handyman, I am happy that I have 6 month guarantee, and I can call them back if I need to.

The Roto-Rooter Team helped our family work through what, to us, was a residential disaster: the waste sewer pipe failed, leaked biological waste and contaminated everything in the finished basement. 45 minutes after reporting my problem to the RR dispatcher, I got an e-mail confirming who would contact me. Within 90 minutes of requesting help, the RR technician was at my home. In short time, he did several important things for us: 1) He identified the source of the leak, and applied a temporary plug to stop further damage to our property 2) He told me the extent of the problem, and what would be needed to repair the damaged pipe and to decontaminate the basement 3) He contacted the RR plumbers to arrange for the pipe repair and for the clean-out of the line to the city service connection that had clogged, causing the backup pressure that led to the leak in my pipe. 4) He told me to contact my insurance company immediately 5) He joined me in a conference call with my insurance claim adjuster, and he explained the cause, repairs being performed and confirmed the extent of damage to my finished basement and contents. 6) He scheduled a RR clean-up crew to remove the contaminated basement carpet, walls, built in bar cabinets and doors. The insurance company had authorized the work. The RR technician continued to communicate with claim adjuster with my insurance company to provide updates as additional damage was discovered during interior demolition - to obtain authority to remove those items. Days after the RR technician left our home, I was informed that he was still communicating with the field adjuster that the insurance company would later send out to inspect our home for the management of the claim process. 7) Once contaminated building materials had been removed, RR installed the decontamination, de-humidifier and air filtering equipment that remained in my basement for several days until my home was biologically back to normal. The Roto-Rooter Team members were informative, helpful and respectful of our home. I am very happy that we chose Roto-Rooter.
