I must urge you, do NOT trust whatever Duxler recommends needs fixing. This shop is fine for inexpensive oil changes, but they love to tell you that you "need" repairs that you dont need. Thats dishonesty. In my particular case, I have managed to ignore their recommendations as I know cars fairly well, but yesterday I caught them lying in my face. I went in to change oil (as always), and they said I need a new air filter because "your air filter is dirty". As I normally change air filters myself, I declined and went on to buy my air filter. Opened the hood and tried to change it. Well, the screws/bolts that hold the air filter assembly, the ones you need to unscrew to look at it, were UNTOUCHED. The thin layer of rust over them obviously had never seen a screwdriver or a wrench. Im sorry, it was quite obvious no one touched or opened these. They were still stuck so much that I was not able to unscrew them with a 120 volt DeWalt power drill. In my previous visits, they managed to lose an oil cap and a windshield washer fluid cap. In case of the oil cap, somewhere in the middle of the oil change, the lady comes to me and says "I dont know how youve been driving so long without an oil cap". I demand to take a look, and see freshly unscrewed(the area around it was covered with dust, but the threads were shiny aluminium) oil cap hole, but no oil cap. I pointed that out, but they just stand there telling me "there was no oil cap" (for the last 3000 miles??? I later asked my mechanic, he said that, indeed, I wouldnt be able to drive without it safely, and it definitely wouldnt look freshly unscrewed. They probably drowned it in that oil tank of theirs. These people offered me to put a piece of terry cloth over the hole and go buy an oil cap. I did, but that oil cap being the second thing they lost (windshield fluid tank cap), I always check all caps after they are done. So to sum up, they lie about repairs you need, and they keep losing things. Buyer beware.

Going back to this place makes me want to shudder! When my fiance suggested it the other day I yelled, "No way. Not ever again!" First off, I must explain that I am the daughter of a master mechanic who has skillfully taken care of my cars for my entire life. Unfortunately dad lives in the northern part of Michigan and I have relocated to Evanston! Though I have inquired a good deal of knowledge from him as well as advice about my cars whenever something is going wrong. I have given Duxler my fair share of tries with two different cars over the past year and a half. I have gone in for oil changes (3) and also with my old 1992 rust bucket when crucial parts of the axle were falling off. Each time has turned into a stressful ordeal because they will try their best to up sell work and parts that you dont need (at inflated prices). I have always left thinking my car will fall to pieces if I dont pay another few hundred dollars to get it fixed. Fortunately my dad can talk me through the ordeal and Ive gotten out with just an oil change every time. This brings me to my breaking point with Duxler. I finally take in my new (new to me) 2003 car that I just purchased 3 months prior through my father for an oil change. Im told I need new brakes (not!), my battery is almost dead (still working fine months later!), and that my air filter is filthy. I politely declined taking action and requested they just finish with the oil change. WELL...being paranoid as usual I make sure to pop the hood and make sure things seem to be in order. My oil cap isnt screwed on, the terminal cover from my battery is missing, and the windshield wiper cap is gone. Also, considering the oil on my dipstick is more black than anything else, Im curious if they even changed the oil. The oil changes are cheap and fast for a reason. This place is NOT worth your time, money, or stress it will cause!

I have been going to Duxler for seven years. Everyone who works there is friendly and knowledgeable. The service technicians will take the time to sit down and explain everything so I understand the details. My loyalty to Duxler began about five years ago. I was driving a fairly old car about 50 miles a day to and from work. I brought it in for an oil change and told them it felt like it wasnt driving right but I didnt know how to describe it. Turns out my transmission was going. The manager there sat me down and explained that he could repair the car (somewhere around $1,000 for the transmission, labor & parts), but he couldnt guarantee how long it would last. He didnt want me to spend the money if I had the option to get another car. He said if I really wanted them to fix it, they would, but if it was a member of his family, hed tell them not to waste their money. I really appreciated his honesty. At that time, we had been planning to try to get a new car anyway, so I was glad that I could put the money toward the new car instead of dropping a grand and then possibly having the car last only a month or two. Ive always felt that the folks at Duxler treated me honestly and fairly. They donate to local charities, recognize their customers, and have honored guarantees that surprised me. I recommend them to everyone.

I brought my car in over what felt like some minor tire or brake thing after having my brakes completely overhauled by O&J Auto (excellent!) in November. I was expecting to need new tires or something. Instead, after a very quick check, Duxler told me that I needed a complete brake replacement, which would cost me over $1200. Deeply concerned and a little shaken at my apparent near death, I okayd the work. Silly me. I called O&J immediately upon leaving to ask why they hadnt replaced the drums, which Duxler said had deteriorated and not been replaced in years. O&J told me to bring my car in, that the brakes were still under warranty. I had to argue Duxler down from $400 to $100 to cover the hours labor they had already put in. Then a few hours after I had dropped the car off at O&J, they called me to tell me there were no major problems. Bottom line: Duxler (accurately) pinned me as an innocent, ignorant woman whom they could take advantage of. Unless you know cars well, stay away from Duxler. Theyll try to get money from you however they can.

Back in February I had to get my car towed because the battery died and got it towed to Duxler (because it was a recommendation). So they told me they put in a brand new battery and sent me on my way. Two weeks later the alternator failed (which they didnt tell me about). They were nice enough to recharge the "brand new battery" and I decided to get it towed out by my parents and the alternator was fixed at a different mechanic. Then a couple weeks ago the battery died...again. Took it in to a place and they told us the battery is completely drained and its done. My family and I asked why, there was a brand new battery put in in February and he said no that the battery is from 2013 and showed us the date on it. Are you serious?!!? We paid $200 for Duxler to put in a battery that was already four years old but told us was brand new. I didnt even think to check to see the date on the battery because I didnt know I was going to get ripped off. Dont take their word on anything.
