I have nothing good to say about this club and I highly suggest against anybody joining here, for reasons I will list below. First, and most importantly, my privacy and that of my fiancé were violated when an employee pulled up our membership information solely to solicit my fiancé for something HIGHLY inappropriate (use your imaginations). This woman (I assume it was a woman) pulled our telephone number and solicited my fiancé late on a Sunday night. This is not only highly appropriate, but I consider it a HUGE violation of privacy and I believe this speaks volumes for LA Fitness as a company. I feel very violated and disturbed by this and it was the last straw for this club in my eyes. Secondly, the quality of the gym is mediocre at best. Ive been counting the weeks now that one of the calf machines has been broken (consequently one of my favorite machines)--Im up to three weeks count on that. It doesnt look like itll be fixed anytime soon. Weights? All over the place, and in some cases, nowhere near the weight section. Paper towel and cleaning solution dispensers? Most are missing, and the remaining ones are empty most of the time Im there. Employees start shutting off lights up to ten minutes prior to closing--highly unsafe and, frankly, rude. Speaking of closing times: employees will give you the stink eye if you come in any later than two hours prior to closing and make sure to rudely remind everybody that theyre closing soon. Were talking coming onto the speaker and telling people, usually up to thirty minutes before closing, that they better finish their workouts now because they want to go home. Yeah, we get it, and respect that you want to go home, but the rudeness displayed here is just completely mind boggling. They also lock the doors up to an hour -- yes, an hour -- prior to close. I do not recommend coming to this gym, especially since the employees are so extremely rude and (in at least one case) inappropriate.

I really enjoy going here because it is such a busy, big gym. I like getting lost in the crowd. The class schedules are extremely flexible and varied, which has been wonderful with my crazy schedule. Honestly, none of the nearby locations can compare with their classes. I know that equipment and commodities break down a lot, but they are almost always fixed in a timely manner. I think a lot of this has to do purely with the amount of use this gym sees on a daily basis. The pool is usually a little chilly, and the jacuzzi is too small for the amount of people going, but the overall attitude of fellow gym members is pleasant enough that everybody gets where they want to go. Also, this is the ONLY LA Fitness I have been to where I have actually seen cleaning happen consistently. There is always someone cleaning in the womens locker room, and usually cleaning happening in the showers in the mornings. Some of the front desk people are less than friendly, but the core staff and personal trainer are out of this world. Yode is adept at knowing when to push you and when to be patient. I never thought I would love going to the gym, but this location has made me a gym goer for life.

Management is very poor..I got a call from a district manager whose name was Jeff Neekma. He left a voicemail saying they canceled my membership due to multiple people using it. I called back to clarify what was going on and he said “there are multiple people using your membership and its your job to make sure no one uses it.” apparently my membership was being used in Oak Lawn, which I don’t even live near and I told him that but he was convinced I knew who was using my membership. He was laughing and making me seem like a liar saying "common, is it an old friend you dont talk to anymore." I proceeded to tell him I dont know who is using it and that I do not go out to Oak Lawn ever! I live in the north suburbs.I asked if I can change my phone # on file and he says that would have been a practical solution but the membership is already canceled and I cant be a member of any la fitness.. not sure how Jeff got to be a district manager of a La Fitness with no customer service skills.

Im a member here at L.A. fitness on 88th and Cicero. I dont say that proudly. It is out of mere convenience that Im a member here. I cant stand the people who work here for the most part. The staff is so unprofessional and the when the equipment is out of service, it is out of service for a long time. There is not enough cleaner and wipes in this place. In order to wipe down a machine youve got to travel across the room and hopefully when you get back, youre machine is still available. The basketball court is full of people some of whom are not there to play, but rather sit around and socialize. I cant stand that you have to leave your ID or cell phone at the front desk in order to get any machine attachments. They need to be more courteous and stop walking around like they own the place. I can probably go on for a while longer but Im starting to get angry just typing. Im hoping for a competing gym to spring up nearby so I can leave this gym.

My experience at the club today was horrible. I cant believe that LA Fitness has a General Manager, sitting at the front desk, with such a nasty disposition and very unconcerned about people as a whole representing them. I witnessed him treat my guess rude and nasty for no apparent reason. Carlos Lopez changed my entire mood and in the middle of a rain storm, I left without working out because after my experience with him, I was no longer in the mood. After being informed that I was gonna complain, his comment was LA Fitness pays me to enforce their policies and rules. That is fine and very logical but does he have to do it with such nastiness and ignorance. If I wasnt working, I would launch a boycott against that particular club until Mr. Carlos Lopez, the General Manager changes his rude and nasty ways to the people that are being serviced by Oaklawn LA Fitness on 88th and Cicero.

If you dont need a personal trainer and are looking for a place to workout that is convenient, then this is it! I can always find a machine, the showers work and the front desk staff is helpful. On the downside, the machines are super old, and if they took the time to invest in newer equipment, it would warrant at least a half-star higher rating, as the membership fees should allow for a better looking facility-- So if you are look for state of the art tech-gym atmosphere, you wont find it here-- but as stated, there is a nice variety of cardio and resistance machines for everyone and the aerobics instructors are very enthusiastic and theres even a pool ! overall grade: C! Room for improvement, but overall, worth a try!

I have been an LA fitness member for over 5 years. I froze my account last year due to an injury. I contacted the LA fitness in Oak Lawn, located at 8812 S. Cicero, to schedule a tour and workout. I was treated VERY poorly by the staff, as well as the General Manager, who said his name is Jose Rivera, and stated his ID number is 1486578. He hung up the phone during our discussion once I asked for his member id the first time. When I called back he was even more rude and belligerent. This is not how you treat customers, nor attract new business. I am very disappointed in him and his staff. Apparently, this is how hes training his subordinates - to treat customers poorly.
