This experience was nightmare! I would not suggest using Home Depot or DRF for any of your plumbing needs. We have 2 hot water heaters that are easily accessible that were leaking. Not exactly an emergency situation, but something that needed to be fixed. We decided to go with Home Depot due to price and what seemed like convenience in getting someone out to our house. When calling the Home Depot number you are actually transferred to DRF Plumbing, but they dont identify themselves as such. After a very long phone call, I received a quote, which they claim they will beat anyones price up to 30 days (check Yelp for more information on that) and the promise that someone would be out the next day. They told me that they would call between 7 - 8 to let us know what stop number we would be. My husband decided to take the day off in case there were problems. That would prove to be unnecessary, as they did not arrive until he would have been home anyway. We got a call at 8:15 the next morning that we would be stop #5 and it would take about 2 hours to replace the hot water heaters. I called customer unservice just before 3:00 to see what kind of progress the repairman was making. He was just arriving at his 3rd stop. The person I spoke to was rude and unapologetic. I called a local plumber to see what kind of pricing they had. It took them a bit to get back to me and in the meantime, the repairman called to say that he was on his way. That was around 4:30. He got to our house around 5:00. Local plumbers estimate was higher than Home Depots, so we decided to stay the course. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!! The repairman was nice and knowledgeable, but told my husband that we needed an additional $366 worth of work. My husband agreed. I had to run an errand or I probably would have sent him away. The repairman was at our house until 9:30 at night. He supposedly had another call after ours. Another thing that I think was sketchy was that they made a big deal about getting a building permit for the installation. They told me that I had to call in the permit number before they would come out. Where I live does require a permit, but I imagine very few people actually get them for hot water heaters. The additional $366 were items that the plumber said that we had to have in order to pass inspection. I have a feeling that one of the tactics to drive up their profits is to insist on the permit and then hold it over the homeowners head telling them they would not pass the inspection, which is what we were told and why my husband did agree to the extra charges. If we did not have a permit and got caught by the city, we, not the plumbing company, would have to pay any fines. I dont understand the overscheduling of the plumbers by the company, their rudeness, arrogance, and lying about guaranteed prices. I did call my local Home Depot last night and they were pretty apathetic about things. They shouldnt be because they are using this company as a sub-contractor. Home Depot did tell me to bring in the paperwork and they would refund the difference between the quoted and actual price to me. Will see if that actually happens. With so many options available, avoid this one!

I am not going to remove the experience yesterday, I will give credit where credit is due, Albert and Anthony did a great job installing the new water heater today. They were both polished and highly professional. The saved the day, they get 5 stars, the experience yesterday not so much. Hindsight being a wonderful thing, if they would have just been more honest on what was going on yesterday would have made this go better. They promise that they will get to you regardless if it is their normal hours. I guess that is good, but pushing things into the late night hours is not a good thing. Just be aware if you need an emergency water heater on a Sunday, you run the risk of their on call engineer being over booked. previous post--- I went to the home depot website, discovered on a Sunday morning that Hot Water Heater was leaking. I called the number on the HD website for same day water heater delivery. Talked to several individuals, all pleasant, agreed to model and a price. They told me there was and extra fee for same day Sunday, $190. I agreed. They charged my visa immediately. This was all before 10am. They said afternoon sometime. I got a call later asking me to review their standard disclaimers, no issues. They said that later in the afternoon 4:30PM. I called after 4:30PM, said that plumber would be delayed until 7:00PM. I called at 7:15PM, plumber needed at least 30 minutes to finish were they were at. I asked where they were coming from. They were about an hour away meaning they wouldnt start until about 9PM. I asked them to cancel the expedite fee and schedule for in the morning. The guy on the phone didnt know how to do this. I asked him to schedule for Monday. He said he would but could not confirm anything. I asked for his boss name and number, he gave me a first name and the main phone number. I know that most of the reviews are good. If they did a better job communicating the timing it would be better customer service.

I called DRF this morning at 7:45 AM to ask about the next steps for a hot water heater repair. Without knowing anything but the model of my tank and the year it was installed (8 years ago) I was told that I would need to replace it. I proceed to move forward with that suggestion and was told that a technician would be at my house sometime today to complete the service. I took the day off of work to be there for the service. No one came or contacted me until 9:45 when they said that it would take longer than they thought, but that someone would be here in the afternoon and that he would be coming from Lombard (I live in Downers Grove), either way, I would be notified when the technician was on his way. I wait at home all day until 3:40 when I have to leave to pick my child up from school. At 3:48, I get the call saying the technician is on his way. I let the caller know that Im en route to pick up my child and should be home in 20 minutes or so - which would be a reasonable meeting time for someone driving from Lombard to Downers Grove. Unfortunately, I receive another phone call 3 minutes later (3:51) saying that the technician is at my house and will only wait 20 minutes for me to get back. I rush to pick up my small child and get home, only to have missed him by 2 minutes. When I call, I am told that he cannot turn back. I am EXTREMELY disappointed with this service. Not only were they incredibly expensive, the service was terrible and I cannot believe what they put me through today. I do NOT recommend DRF.

I was referred to DRF through Home Depot. Albert and Anthony came to install a new water heater for me. Before they start work, Albert checked with me to make sure that I have a permit from the village. (*This gesture made me heave a sigh of relief, because the guy I talked to on the phone told me that although a permit is needed, I do not need it for the plumbers to start work. Not wanting to get in trouble with the village, I went to the village hall the morning DRF was suppose to come, and the village expedited my request. However, the lady at the village hall told me that contrary to what the guy on the phone told me, the plumbers should only start work with a permit. She also scheduled an inspector to come out to check on the completed installation. Usually only a permit is needed, and no inspection is required.) When I asked Albert what will happen if I dont have a permit, and he matter-of-factly told me that he wouldnt be able to start work without it, I was very pleased! All my doubts that I may get a company who does a sloppy job, and then disappears, flew out the window! Albert also brought the new installation up to code. Both Albert and Anthony were professional and courteous. The village inspector came the day after the installation and told me that everything was done correctly. It made me felt like a proud mom! :-) I will call DRF again for any plumbing work.
