What can I say about CATS Auto Repair? Well, my family and I have known the owner Cal for about 20 years now and have been frequenting CATS since its inception and even prior when Cal was the general manager at the previous establishment at the same location. I do not frequent a ton because I do al my maintenance myself and some repair work myself. But there is projects I am smart enough not to touch and let professionals take care of or there is instances wither I do not have proper (expensive) tools in which they have. But everytime I have gone in in those years it has always been a great experience because Cal and his son Cal Jr are great people to speak with and just have a conversation with when they are not busy. Cal in my view is all about honesty, integrity, and one thing I like is he is interested in getting to know you and like a ton of business today, he does not treat you like a dollar sign. He genuinely cares about you and your situation as to why you are there and he cares about the relationship he has with his customers. His prices have always been very fair and I can not stress the word fair. Dealerships want to take advantage of you and atleast in this area, Cal has given us a great solution to going to the dealership where you are just a dollar sign. Cal has ALWAYS been right on the button with his estimates and never a penny more. Whenever I drive past his establishment and his parking lot is chuck full of cars and all lined up down the side drive, makes me smile in a way because I know people are getting a fair shake in their time of automotive needs. Personally, I do not trust many people with my vehicles, but that feeling is way less when I need his services versus any other place. My Family and I have recommended a handful of people to CATS and will continue to. As far as turnaround time when needing work done, I have never found a problem. My vehicles are always done in the time frames he estimates, but knowing how things go with automotive work at times meaning sometimes things do go as smoothly as it should, I do not blow up his phone wondering why it is not done. But atleast it is always done the day he says it is and this is okay because jobs need to be done right. CATS is for the most part a family business. He does hire outside the family, but from what Ive seen he treats them like family also which that is a fare trait in America today and we need more small Mom & Pop types of business. I am confident that when Cal Sr. decides step away from the business and if Cal Jr is interested in taking over the business, I am confident he will operate it similar to his Father as I see Cal Jr to be alot like his Father. Cal always uses the best quality replacement parts available to him. So there is rarely an issue (with me atleast) over a defective part. But it has happened and Ive seen it happen a couple times w/ other customers and Cal will always make the situation right so you never have to worry. I mentioned that because reading reviews on the business other page, sometimes customers blame him/the shop for what is not his fault. But in these rare instances Cal will always try and make it right. He is good people and and I trust him and send others in for work because I know he will treat them right.

I wish there was an option for 0 stars. Complete rip off beware. My friends had warned me to stop going there but I continued going there. Couple months ago my sister wanted to get a oil change so I recommend she take her ford there, they did the oil change and than continued to tell her that she has a major oil leak and if she didnt fix it, her car would catch on fire. To get a peace of mind I had it checked out by a different mechanic and no oil leak found. Also got it checked by ford dealership and no oil leaks found. Giving them the benefit of doubt I continued taking my car there. Today I took in my Mercedes to get the battery changed which I purchased at autozone. I looked up a video on how to do it and realized I didnt have the right tools to remove 2 bolts that hold the battery down. Of course without a thought I called cats auto and they said bring it by itll be $20 to change it. I figured $20 is worth it for the time Ill be saving. When I got there, they went on to explain that changing a battery on a Mercedes was a 1.5 hours labor time (approx. $90) because when the battery would be removed my Mercedes has 6 ECUs that would need to be re programmed otherwise the car wouldnt start. Knowing my friends and sister had a bad experience about them being shady and charging for things not needed, I left for a 2nd opinion to Midas down the street. They were able to swap out my battery in less than 15 minutes and charged me $20. Also I learned there is no reprogramming of any sort required. Cats auto has lost my trust and my business for my 5 cars that use to be taken there on regular basis. Please beware of this shop. Also all recommendations came from owner himself who is usually there at the front desk.

CROOKS...! "Junior" quoted me $900 and change for a valve job, thermostat, radiator flush and spark plugs on a 10 year old Saturn Vue with 195k miles. He said I could get the valves done first (for a little over $500) and then take care of the rest at a later date. So thats what I did. About a week/half went by and I brought the Saturn back. NOW "Junior" wants to charge me an ADDITIONAL $800... for a radiator flush, thermostat and spark plugs!! Worse... he vehemently denied giving me the first quote, and then developed an attitude after I reasoned that I would have never agreed to spend over $1300 on a car with nearly 200,000 miles on it. In fact, even when he quoted me $900+ I had reservations about fixing or junking the vehicle... but I decided to fix it since Junior suggested I get the work completely incrementally. My error was not getting his first quote in writing... but I didnt think to do so because I already gave Cats approval to start the valve job. Needless to say I did not pay the "additional" $800+ (which was $350-$400 MORE than the original quote)... so the rest of the work was never completed, and I still have a second car with several issues. Bottom line Junior is a CROOK! If you do consider giving Cats your business, make sure you get ANY quote in writing, and with a date... or Junior may try to scam you too!!

My Volvo Covertible, I can't tell you how happy I am with Mike Herrick at Cats Auto in Schamburg,Il. I had a check engine light come on. After checking the basics outlined in my manual I took the car to to the Volvo dealership. They told me their diagnostics would definitely find the problem and I left the car with them. After the shock at the repair bill, it was explained that the Oxgen Sensor had gone bad and it was an expensive. I left. Ten minutes into the drive home the Check Engine light came on again! I turned right around and took it back. I left the car again. This time they told me it was the Catalytic Converter, very, very expensive. I took the car home and the next day the Check Emgine light returned! I tried to some make sense with the dealership but to no avail. I finally took the car to Cats Auto and told Mike my story, within the day they had found the problem. It was a broken wire on the loom that controls the oxygen sensor, quick, easy fix, not at all expensive and it was done, DONE! After a couple of thousand dollars and a real bad time with the Volvo technicians, Mike and Cats Auto easily, quickly, and inexpensively solved my problem. I will never use anybody else EVER again. Gratefully, Phil Denofrio
