Move out/move in was approaching fast and I couldnt find a place to store my things during that period of time without paying for two months storage. Luckily, Ames West Side Storage has a warehouse they let people store their items in for ~2 weeks during the transition between apartments (for a very reasonable flat rate). We stacked a ton of items in a spot in the warehouse with the help of Steve. We had enough items that he definitely could have charged us for two spotd, but he was nice enough to only charge for one. All we had to do was let him know when we would be coming and call him when we were ready to put items in. When we go to take our stuff out, well have to do the same thing. He made everything very easy and was extremely friendly. Someone even took our (very sweaty) photo. :) If I ever have to store items again, Ill definitely be doing it with Ames West Side Storage!

DEFINITELY would RECOMMEND!! Owner and his wife are fantastic! Theyre occasionally around the units and introduce themselves to the new renters and say hello to the old ones. Unit itself: Very clean and no issues with mold/dampness. I had the 10x20 unit in the heat of the summer yet had no moisture problems. I needed a storage unit ASAP one night around 7pm. It was very easy to check-in with the 24-7 automated system. Very accommodating! I loaded my u-haul in a matter of hours then talked with the owner before leaving. He was very helpful and had me leave an physical address (to send a check) in case there was any issue refunding my deposit to my debit card. [I moved out on the 27th of the month and received the deposit back to my card on the 1st]

Wow. How about 10 stars! Steve came through for us on a Friday evening, after an all-nighter of closing/moving off our acreage of 18 years. More stuff than we knew we had and a rented truck due back early the next morning. Dilemma! Steve found a space, got us all set, and his friendliness offered a glimmer of hope we really needed in this marathon of a move. Ironically, I had done my research 10 months earlier when wed decided to make the big move. It was clear that Ames West Side Storage was the ONLY spot in Ames we wanted due to location (not in a flood plain), construction, and ease of access. We thought wed escaped the need for storage but were so lucky they were there when we did need them.

Posted this first without doing business here, "Hey, can anyone speak to the quality of the unit itself? Many places in Ames claim, "climate controlled," then clients report throwing out moldy furniture. Are the units totally separated? Flood safe? Second floor storage available? Security issues? Looking for a place for a full year, any input would be helpful." Within a few hours Steve R. (the owner) called me to check in and inquire about my review/questions. He answered everything directly and was helpful with understanding climate control/mold issues int he Ames area. Ends up I dont need storage; if I did I would use this location based on the interactions.

Hey Cyclones! If youre like me coming in as an out-of-state student with a lot of junk (or even as an in-state student with a lot of junk, no judgement here) I promise West Side Storage is the best storage facility for you in town. Steve is so easy to work with, is very kind and understanding, and is running wonderful facilities that gave me peace of mind about the safety and well-being of my things. His rates are fair and his "virtual" summer storage set up is very organized. Ill be using West Side Storage again next summer for sure!

This is my first time to use a self-storage but I can promise Ames Side Storage would be the best one I’ve ever had. Clean and dry, the conditions can tell how worthy you paid for that. Words cannot describe how easy and convenient to use that. If you have question, the automated assistant would be a great help. Additionally, the owner’s quite friendly!!!!! He will help you as he can nicely and patiently!! I called several times the owner’s phone number, he came within no more than 10 minutes. Amazing experience!!

This has been a really great option and experience for us. This owner will go above and beyond in terms of service... And he doesnt have to, because the whole reservation, checking in/out, and payment system in a super easy automated one. So the convenience and accessibility is wonderful and if you want to talk to someone the owner is nice, available and very helpful. The facility is spotless, dry and secure, and the price is right as well. Doesnt get much better than the experience weve had. Highly recommended!

Im a parent figuring out summer storage for my college kids. Steve was phenomenal to work with out of state and over the phone. Was easily able to secure a unit and provide payment over the phone with lease sent via email and signed electronically. Steve also understands the difficulties students face when moving in/out of local apartments with the 3-5 day limbo of "where to store belongings" the end of July. He will work to try and accommodate your needs.

Ive used many different storage facilities in and around Ames, with varying degrees of success. West Side Storage is the easiest to use. Very convenient. Using the automated assistant, made it very helpful and efficient. The automated feature makes it so you can do business any time of the day or night, independent of normal business hours. I would totally recommend this storage facility to anyone for all you storage needs. Great concept!

Ames West Side Storage is a great facility. The customer service is outstanding. Steve is wonderful to work with, and is always very quick to respond to any questions you may have.The entire facility is well maintained, and the inside of the storage units are very clean. I have rented a unit here twice and I recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for a clean, secure, customer oriented facility for their storage needs.

This place is incredible! Not only is it the newest facility in town, but its MUCH more technologically advanced than the others - you can reserve a unit online, then go to their self-serve kiosk in the middle of the night to finish the process and access your storage unit right then! Great location, cameras all over the place, and best of all, they actually had a unit available when I needed it! Highly recommended!

Ive experienced absolutely no problems with Ames West Side Storage. I am a student at ISU and have used them for two summers. The owner, Steve, is personable and courteous, Ive actually run into him while moving some of my stuff in and we had a nice conversation about the place. The prices are competitive and although the location is on the northwestern part of town, its still easy to and convenient to utilize.

West Side Storage was a life saver. My daughter is from out of state and this solved our problem of what to do with all her stuff until she returned this year. The owners are very responsive and were quick to help me since I was reserving a unit sight unseen. The units are clean, spacious and the whole property is in great shape. Check out was easy and well be back again this next year.
