Natural Alternatives Salon is awesome and I’m glad I’ve found a “home” for my (newly) natural hair. Tameka did my hair and she was AMAZING! I went in on 5/24/16 for a big chop and it was my 1st time stepping into a salon as an adult. Horror stories had kept me away from salons for over 20 years but I was ready for a change. Turns out I had NO reason to be worried! THE SALON: The day I made an appt. the lady on the phone was super nice and got me in that same day for a free consultation. We toured the salon and went over the equipment and product lines they use. I was impressed with the clean, relaxing, and professional atmosphere. Regina, the owner, was nice and came right over to introduce herself. During the consultation Tameka listened carefully and seemed excited to get started on my hair. She made sure the haircut would be appropriate for work, asked how long I’d been transitioning, and made sure I was really ready for such a drastic cut. I was booked for the following Tuesday. THE CUT: It’s scary to only know someone for about 20 minutes and then have to trust them with cutting off (most!) of your hair but again I had nothing to worry about. The moment Tameka helped me into my cape I felt at ease. She was gentle, ALWAYS double checked with me before cutting, and most importantly didn’t cut too much off! (A big complaint among frequent salon goers.) She was also honest about the awkward stage I’ll go through if I grow my cut out in the future. I’m quiet and I’ve heard others complain about stylists making them talk when they just want to chill. Tameka didn’t force me to talk but when I did want to chat she was very easy to talk to. She explained each step she was doing and the benefits of each product. I swear I never had to wait more than a few seconds after the dryer or the steamer stopped before she was coming around the corner to whisk me away to the next step. Since then, I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on my hair!

Ive had the pleasure of experiencing this salon and I must note It is beautifully decorated and kept, the atmosphere is nice. My issue is i dont know if the stylists at this salon see what they have. Not many African American salons specifically catering to natural hair have the look, feel, and values this salon has...potential is here to become THE top salon in Louisville. I rarely leave my city and have went to many different salons, even those that cater to natural hair here. I consistently hear my friends and co-workers say they want a salon like the ones theyve seen in other cities... the opportunity for that is here! I dont know if you all get that or not but I truly feel you have "IT"....I just cant see it in the stylist attitudes or the women who were at the front desk. I had the opportunity through an event to explore the new location. I was floored by how beautiful it is, from the front desk to seating area for the dryers. My hope is that the stylist here walk into that new location and see the vision and potential there. As African American women our experiences with salons are normally full of waiting, gossip, mediocre decor and customer service. The feeling I got walking into that new salon was one full of excitement. I wanted to experience full service treatment there, I just dont know if the current stylist at your salon have what It takes. I saw them on cell phones with personal calls or on social media. Your missing two stars is due to staff because the place is superb otherwise. The end result is usually ok but I know its so much more here, so much vision and potential. Please see what this place could be for us (your customers)and the city. Bring to life what it seems the place is trying to convey...a professional salon experience!

I saw pretty good Google reviews on this place so I thought Id give it a shot. I saw Tameka and let me start by saying Im SUPER happy about her service and will be going back. Shes my official go-to. Tameka started by asking me what we were going to be doing. I wanted a shampoo, a trim and a flat twist. She shampooed my hair really well, I use a lot of heavy oils in my hair on a day to day basis because I find my hair responds well to that, and she managed to get everything out. She set me up with a treatment and I sat under the steamer for 15mins. Once she was done shampooing and conditioning we went over and she cut trimmed my hair. She did it while it was still wet, which I appreciate because I try to limit the amount of heat I put on my hair. She also showed me how much she was trimming off which ended up being a very small amount. She asked me if I preferred a curl or a wavy look when I take my styles out. I said curl; she put some wrapping foam on my hair and proceeded to two-strand twist. It was really quick and I was pleased with how patient she was with my questions about my upcoming appointment to get some color put in. I went in for an appt at 7:30 and probably left around 9:30. And that was probably only because I was asking questions about the different between dyeing hair and rinsing hair. She was extremely relaxed and I never felt rushed. It was great! I go to the gym pretty often so I left my flat twists in until today when I took them out. I was happy with her service when I left two days ago... I didnt realize how amazing of a job she did until today. My hair is shiny, healthy looking, healthy feeling, bouncy, everything you could ask for. This twistout has body for days, I love it.

I recently moved to Louisville and have been in search of a multicultural hair salon for weeks. I chose this place based on previous reviews and the pictures provided on the salons website (and Facebook account) and boy am I glad I did. For a woman of color, I have very thick and long hair. Usually I opt for a relaxer and a trim once every three months. After visiting this salon and seeing what these ladies can do, I am definitely considering going the natural route for the next few months. My stylist did an amazing job on my hair. She made my hair look fresh and healthy again. It literally looks like I just received a relaxer when I in fact didnt. What an experience!!! I have already booked my next appointment for a trim and am looking to schedule another one before then just because...

Natural Alternatives is one of the best , if not THE BEST hair salon for women of color. Thats not to say, women of non-color could not go and be "Wowed" by the professional and talented staff. Im a mature woman (over 50) and I get compliments regarding my hair from young and old! Let go of the lye-based perms and come and let Natural Alternatives bring your natural hair to its best...styles can include straight or kinky. Trust me - you will LOVE what they do

Love this place! Cute, quaint shop with very personable staff who take great care of you. Ive never had to wait long before getting my hair started, and Im not in the shop being styled for hours and hours while they start and finish other people before finishing me...that whole thing that a lot of shops do. Not here! They start you and they finish you; I LOVE IT! Regina is my favorite; fantastic stylist and great to talk to. I highly recommend this salon.
