I took my car into Far East Motors for an oil change before we went on a long distance vacation trip. I took it to Far East because it was closer than the dealer. BIG MISTAKE, WHICH I WILL NEVER MAKE AGAIN!!! First, I noticed that the maintenance light was on, but just assumed they had forgotten to reset it. Then, as we were driving to Cape Code, we noticed a loud sound when we accelerated that sounded like it might be a hole in the muffler. I was annoyed that they hadnt caught it, but assumed that after 85,000 miles that a hole in the muffler is no surprise. Finally, I noticed that there was some oil leaking out onto the driveway. So I took it back to the dealer (instead of Far East), and told them to check for a hole in the muffler and an oil leak, and to reset the maintenance light. The shop foreman at the dealership called me back in a couple hours (I had dropped it off on my way to work). He said that whoever had changed the oil not only had failed to reset the maintenance light, but had also failed to screw the oil plug all the way back in. The oil plug was loose, and so thats why it was leaking oil! And, the dealers shop foreman also said that whoever had done the oil change had not clipped the lid back onto the air filter compartment. So that was why it was making the noise that sounded like a hole in the muffler. So do yourself a favor, and forego patronizing this incompetent auto "service" center whose mechanics cant ever screw the oil plug back in, or clip the lid back on he air filter compartment. Just imagine what they might do to your car if there was an ACTUAL MECHANICAL PROBLEM. R. Dennis Olson Silver Spring, MD

My husband and I have been using Far East Motors to service our Toyota Camry since 2009 or so, and we have always been very satisfied. Watchman Sykes is the manager I usually communicate with and he is both personable and knowledgeable. He is also good at breaking down my cars maintenance or repair needs in a way that a non-technical person like myself can understand. And he is honest in providing you with options that other car service places might not. For example, a couple of years ago we got some pretty severe scratches on our passenger side rear door and panel. He gave me the estimate for what the full repair would cost (and I checked with my brother-in-law who works at a car dealership and he said the pricing was definitely very fair), but when I said that it was a little more than what my husband and I were prepared to spend just then he came up with other options. He ended up being able to make the scratches and dents much less visible and completely protected from any rust for a fraction of the cost. I am grateful for Far East Motors great care for my vehicle, and respect for my budget.

Ive been going to Far East Motors many years. The owner is customer focused and his staff are extremely fair and respectful. He is also the former master mechanic for Wilson Honda back in the day. Above all, I find their prices better than the dealer, but they are also certified like the dealer, meaning your Honda/Toyota doesnt lose warranty if you let them service it -- which is huge. Above all, I think they are very honest. Theyve been more than forthcoming on issues that I could wait till later to repair and advise me with sound advice (even sometimes to their disadvantage) when I ask for their opinion. I will say they are very busy (for obvious reasons) -- so to be fair -- you should periodically expect them to revise their schedule -- but rarely does it happen and if it does -- it isnt more than a couple of hours. You would be hard press to find a more honest, comprehensive, garage for your Japanese import.

I have been taking my vehicle here for a couple of years. The team here is friendly and most importantly, honest. There was once a time where the issue was misdiagnosed at first (as a fuel tank harmless noise that cannot be fixed without replacing the whole thing), but several months later on the following oil change, was correctly re-diagnosed and fixed (turned out to be the rear shocks). Having said that, I still give them five stars and have scheduled my upcoming winter service with them because they can be trusted! Even when the noise was misdiagnosed at first, the fees were minimal, and they even recommended not going for the expensive repair. Instead of trying to oversell services, they will tell you exactly what they think you need and wont over-inflate the bill with unnecessary charges. To me, thats the most important thing to look for in an auto service center: trust and peace of mind.

Got to these guys via the car talk website after I had a bad experience at a local dealership. The dealer told me it would be approx $3800 to fix my car, and by the way the sales dept has a special pricing if I come and talk to them. Since when does a service adviser try to sell cars ? Something did not seem right - so I got a second opinion from the Far East Motors garage. They confirmed the items the dealer found , took me to the car and showed me the parts that were needed now - and the other items could wait 6-9 months. I am not prepared for a car payment right now - but the end result was I feel I have a safe car again, and was just about $2900 out the door. Anyone who keeps my car running and $900 savings, is ok with me. I highly recommend them, and I dont fell pressured to buy a car right now.

My wifes car had been having the same ongoing issues over the past year. We had taken it to 2 other mechanics, one was a large dealership and one was a small mom and pop who previously did work on my car. Both were unsure of what the problem was, however the large dealership told me they eventually "fixed" it. Three months and hundreds of dollars spent later, we were back at square one. I saw good reviews about Far East and gave them a shot. They were amazing! Had the car dropped off after hours and received a call first thing the next morning. Paul was able to diagnose the issue the same day and had parts ordered and installed within 48 hours. All around great experience. Reasonably priced, knowledgeable, professional and prompt! Car runs great!

Far East Motors has provided maintenance to my Honda Element for over 10 years and I have been a satisfied customer the entire length of this time. The family atmosphere and professional customer service is to be complimented. From the reception desk to the work area the customer service is wonderful. Furthermore, whenever I am uncertain or lack knowledge about a repair, the crew takes the time to explain the problem and share the options of repair with me. I greatly appreciate the transparency that removes the stress of uncertainty from me. Overall, I would highly suggest that you experience the professional service at Far East Motors---honesty, transparency, professionalism, family atmosphere and a clean shop.

Another good service visit (Feb 2016). My Honda Odyssey "Check engine" light was on and the diagnostic analyzer spat out a dozen possible codes. Far East gave me some possible scenarios but then focused on a common solution to clean the fuel injectors as a first and economical service. That took care of the problem! Their service overall was fast and effective. My earlier post: Far East Motors continues to provide great service. We had both of our Honda vehicles in for major mileage service recently. Each time the staff was friendly, the service was performed quickly, and they worked with us to make sure we had the benefit of their latest specials. They have handled big and small jobs well for us.
