One day I showed up at my unit, there was another blue lock on my unit to prevent me from accessing my unit, apparently due to unpaid rent. It was impossible in my case, since I have been on auto payment right from the beginning. Fortunately, Durell, a property manager was still around at the time to remove the lock for me. Another day I showed up with my movers at 8:30am, to my surprise, my access code to open the gate stopped working. The office wasnt open at the time; I had to beg another tenant inside of the gate to open the gate for me and my movers. I finally called the headquarters, who told me that the access code I had been using for months was incorrect. It turned out that the property managers mixed up my unit number before I moved in and had to redo the contract to "transfer" me to another unit on paper, but failed to inform me about my new access code. (They did call me about the mix up a week prior. Nevertheless, their failure to inform me about my new access code caused me to be locked out outside of the gate on a raining day, with my movers in tow.) Before I signed the contract, they gave me the impression that I must buy their $20 lock in order to rent a unit. I only found out after I paid for the lock that the $20 lock was optional and I could bring my own lock. No return and no refund on the lock. The lock was mine to keep. Before I signed the contract, they told me that last months rent will be prorated and I can move out whenever I want. After I moved out, they told me that my last months rent is prorated ONLY if I move out before the 15th of each month. If I move out after the 15th, I still pay for the entire month. On the day of contract signing, they made me buy their $11/month renters insurance unless I could prove that my own insurance will cover my properties inside my storage unit. "You can cancel our insurance any time if you bring proof of insurance" they said. It turned out that my renters insurance does cover whats inside my storage unit. I came by two days later to cancel Public Storages insurance. They responded, "Sorry, you have already paid for the entire month. No refund. No prorate for this month, but we will remove your insurance next month." They will upsell you on the insurance, locks, mattress covers, packaging materials. They will make it sound like the insurance and the locks are mandatory. Watch out for their upsell tactics and surprises!!! Oh yeah, also watch out for the $25 move-in fee! Otherwise, the units are mostly decent and clean. Price not bad.

Convenient and easy access from Colesville Rd (Rt29) and just over 1 mile from Rt495 Beltway. Facility was very clean and loading docks/elevators were readily accessible. While the storage facility is accessible until 9pm, my only complaint is the flat transport carts appear to be locked away after regular office hours (closes at 6pm). I searched the entire complex for these after arriving at 8pm. While I understand that these may be locked away due to possible theft, I recommend that PS Storage adapts a system that allows their patrons to gain access until 9pm. Fortunately, I brought my own dolly, although a flat cart wouldve been ideal. Otherwise, I would have rated my experience with 5 stars. Facility Management under Shanella was both courteous and friendly, as well as highly efficient and very professional. Overall, a pleasant experience with her during whats often a fast-paced and hectic moving process.

So there are things in life that are supposed to be painful, like getting a root canal or cleaning up after your basement floods or moving, and then there are things that you hope will be painless but rarely are.....like renting at a storage facility. I recently rented a storage space at Hillwood and was so happily surprised at how helpful Durell was and at how easy the process was that I had to write a review and call him out. Its a simple thing but when you having to find a place for you stuff, it is rarely because life is going exactly as you expected, and having a public storage employee treat you with such professionalism and kindness goes a long way towards brightening your day. Thank you.

When I first moved into this facility in 2007, it was extremely well maintained, and my rent plus insurance was around $100 per month for a 5 X 10 unit. Since that time, the facility has dropped to mediocre cleanliness and maintenance. Worse, MY MONTHLY RENT HAS DOUBLED since I first rented the unit, despite the fact that a new unit of the same size still rents for within $10 of the original price from in 2007. I cannot recommend this or any other Public Storage facility for long term storage; the fees are exorbitant and the company shows a clear lack of respect for long-term clients.

I went to this property to inquire about a unit for my bf and I stuff and mignon. Was very helpful even though I told her that we are not going to need the unit now. She brought us to go see several unit so we have an idea of what we are going to need in a few weeks. This property was very clean and will definitely recommend this for my friends and family. I got the storage unit online. Went and did everything in person, moved my stuff in to realize the unit was too small. On the 4th of July Carmelita got me a bigger unit and I moved in quickly. No hassle, no running around nothing. Great customer service, wonderful personality and I thank you for helping me! Told you I gotchu with the review, Im just a couple days late!

I recently worked with Crystal Wilson to locate a storage unit. She was AMAZING! Crystal took the time with me on two occasions to figure out the best size and make sure that I understood the pricing. I cant say enough about her great customer service! The storage facility is very clean and feels secure which was important to me. Overall, Im very pleased!
