If they sense that your company will pay for your move, they will give you a low quote (less number of containers) initially and when you have no other option with half of the items loaded in the truck they quote a higher amount and you are done. My experience with Mayflower/White star moving company was terrible at best. We moved from a two bedroom apartment in MI to NH. Eric was very effective in canvasing their services and told me that my stuff will fit in two containers but there was a very small chance we might need a third container. He also added that if we get rid of some stuff we will easily fit in two containers. So we discarded some of our stuff and opted for two containers. He never told me about the difference in rates if we decide to add a third container later. My initial quote was 3600 dollars. I was so impressed that I had recommended them to 1 of my friends who works in my company. In the middle of loading, they said all my stuff will not fit in two containers and I will need to get a third container. I tried calling Eric and the office multiple times and had to wait two hours infront of the truck not knowing what to do. When Eric called me two hours later, he said to get a third container I will need to add 2500 dollars more and quoted a Michigan law. I realized later that if we had ordered a third container before they start loading, then I would have had to pay 900 dollars extra only instead of 2500. One of the workers who loaded my stuff said that the estimate was odd because the weight of the stuff in the order form would have never fit in two containers. They knew my company will pay for my move. I saw a foul play here and refused to take this bait . They took whatever they could fit and left back 10 boxes and some furniture, totes , a cycle and few suitcases. I had to rent a UBox from Uhaul and send the remaining stuff in it. I called my friend right away who was also planning to use them and realized they had started the same process with her. They had promised she will need only two containers and sometimes a third one. I warned her about this scam and she discarded/sold a lot of furniture and finally was able to just fit in two containers. She thanked me for warning her. The date of delivery was July 12. I was told they will come between 1-5pm. They never showed up and nobody called. I tried calling but couldn’t get hold of anybody till next day morning when they said the delivery team tried to come to my apt and tried to call me on my phone. I am sure that they never did both. I never got a missed call ( I use google voice and so I get an immediate text and email real time for every voicemail or even attempted call). They didn’t give me any evidence that they tried to deliver. After repeated attempts they finally delivered my stuff 9 days later. You can imagine how we stayed in an empty apartment for that period with a toddler and an infant.

I had an appointment with Whitestar/Mayflower today. He never showed up and never called to reschedule. This is after a month in advance booking and a reschedule for or original appointment two days ago because my agent apparently went out of town all of a sudden, I was only given an hour and half notice this time, but at least it was notice. To put icing on the cake, I called their office this morning regarding where my agent was, and no one will answer the phones and no voicemail is available. I understand this may be due to a large storm we had last night but our power company is not reporting outages in their area right now, I checked). None of this excuses the fact that NO ONE contacted me to let me know he was not coming (Good business practice is to have contact info for your next days appointments in case of a setback or possible early arrival). I am not even going to mention the confusing emails I continue to get from their company telling me that I do not have an appointment and that I need to reschedule (according to an office employee, it is ANOTHER clerical error caused by the fact I contacted corporate first??? Really?) These types of clerical issues are issues I DO NOT need on my move day. Their office has shown me that they are not capable enough to handle a smooth move day, since they cannot even get the estimate appointments squared away correctly. I understand there was a huge storm last night, I was in it too. But everyone in this area is doing business as usual, and that is after not having power most of the night and some of this morning. Yet I was still able to find their phone number, know I had an appointment and made sure I was available during that appointment time. If you were my friend and I was giving you advice on whether or not to use Whitestar/Mayflower in Detroit Metro, I would say, STAY AWAY from them and go talk to Untied or Allied...THEY SHOWED UP and were SUPER professional!

Hands down the worst customer service I have ever received. I decided to book my move with Mayflower/Whitestar because the sales guy sold me on how great the container option was. I was to have full replacement insurance, the containers would be sealed until I opened them and it would keep my stuff better than a traditional move. Since my things would be going into storage for 4-9 months this seemed great. Well, 9 months later I get my stuff and it was a mess. Not to mention I never heard from the sales guy again even when I tried to book delivery. My mattress had been used as packing material and left uncovered, not even shrink wrapped. Things were packed in such a way boxes were broken and one container even broken open. My things fell into the street as the crate opened up. There was no parts box, so anything that had a loose part like a lamp finial, shelf pins, screws and such were all lost. I reported all this virtually on the day of the move but have received little to no concern. I filed a claim that took "42" days to process. I was promised a "goodwill" gesture and received none and they are willing to only spot clean my mattress. This, in light of potential mold, mildew, and bedbugs. Its all so appalling I cant believe it. To be honest had they just acknowledged it in the beginning by saying "wow, we are so sorry. Lets us credit you 10% on your move" I would have been at least placated and taken my measly claim amount and gone away. Instead they have dragged their feet, and have done nothing. Now Im told I can "file for arbitration". Great. More work for me. Guess my time and my stuff isnt worth wanting as a repeat customer. NEVER USE MAYFLOWER or Whitestar.

White Star Movers handled my mothers move from Michigan to Pennsylvania recently. She was exceptionally satisfied with every aspect of the move. To begin with, the moving team visited her home with a complete team of White Star representatives. Each team member helped to coordinate the move from providing a very cost effective quote, to coordinating a two stop move across states, to expert care and deliberate planning of century old antiques. The entire experience was considerate, professional and carefully orchestrated. The moving team had an exceptional foreman, Jordan, who was prompt, thorough and very professional. Both of his moving teams handled her belongings as if they were their own. It is very clear, this moving company has customer service as their number one priority. They came highly recommended and we can attest, We would also highly recommend their services to any one considering a move. Thank you White Star Movers for the care and attention you gave my mothers move. You made a stressful situation very calming assuring her belongings arrived safely and securely.
