Take your car somewhere else, anywhere else. I took my car here to get the timing belt changed, and they ended up screwing up my engine and had for over two weeks. When I got it back, a sway bar link (I think is what he called it) was broken, and had to get that fixed too. Best of all, they only wanted to give me $30 a day for the additional rental car fees I incurred, even though THEY are the only reason I needed a rental car for 2+ weeks... My engine light came on a few months later, and the poor service and huge screw ups on my last visit at Tuffy made me wary of their competency when it comes to auto repair. I decided to get a second opinion at Autolab in Madison Heights. He pointed out to me that he didnt think Tuffy performed the repairs correctly, and that mechanic certification numbers were not present on any of my invoices. He recommended that I get the Secretary of State involved. Upon contacting the SOS, they decided to do their own investigation into the matter. They revealed to me that one of the two mechanics that worked to fix my engine was NOT certified in engine repair, which is unacceptable. The repairs had to be performed again under the watchful eye of a SOS master mechanic (apparently thats a thing?). I wrote this because I know its hard to find a mechanic that you trust, especially when you know nothing about cars (like myself). This was one place that I decided to give a try, but I can honestly say that if youre looking for an auto repair shop you can trust, you should omit this one from your search. FYI, I take my cars to Autolab in Madison heights now. His original recommendation to get the state involved made me confident that he runs his business with honesty and , more importantly, within state regulations.

I have a recently purchased 2000 Jeep Cherokee. I knew it would come with some problems but I never expected a cracked cylinder head to be one of them... After having a horrible experience with the seller who lied his way into a signed contract for this lemon, I found myself in desperate need of some honest help. I went to three other places that refused to work on the car given my financial situation (as a recent college grad) and the fact that I was also dealing with what turned out to be a shady warranty service. When I finally made it to Tuffy, John, Chuck and the rest of the gang told me that my circumstances were not a problem at all and that they would take on my case no problem. Not only did they patiently wait MONTHS for me to finally get the money I was owed from the warranty service, they never charged me for storage of my vehicle nor did they make me feel like anything less than a respected customer; most other places wouldve gotten fed up with me, cut their losses and told me to head elsewhere. Chuck in particular helped me work out parts and prices to fit my budget countless times, while still providing me with a safe and reliable vehicle in the end. The work they did on my car was second to none and I have been singing their praises ever since. If you care about your car and the people that work on it, do yourself a favor and go see John and Chuck at Tuffy first... it will save you a lot of time and youll be much happier when its all said and done. Sincerely, Josh Roberts owner of the "no longer terminally ill" White Jeep Cherokee

They are nice guys, but they really try to rip you off. Every time I would take my car in there, they would find some other thing wrong with it that needed to be fixed too. But they were never pushy when I said no just please fix the original problem, so I went back a few times with minor repairs. Well, the last straw was when I recently brought my car in for some leaking coolant. I figured there was a hose leaking somewhere because the coolant was spraying in the engine compartment but not dripping out from beneath the car. They called me with a quote of $1200 to fix my car, saying I needed a new radiator and a new heater hose. Now, even if that had been true, no way on earth would it cost that much to replace those things when the parts cost under $200. I asked them not to do the repair, and when I went in to pick up the car, they told me that coolant had been just pouring out of the car faster than they could add it - which was not true in any way. When I checked the coolant before driving it home, it was full and there was no puddle under the car. I took my car to another shop who found nothing wrong with the radiator or the heater hose and instead found two small plastic Y shaped hose connectors had cracked. They replaced those, and $300 later my car is running fine with no more coolant issues. Save your money and find a new shop that wont try to take advantage.

I first went here for basic tune ups and checks on the car. The basic prices seemed decent and the customer service seemed awesome. I was really looking forward to having a new mechanic I could trust to take care of my care. A week ago I take my car in to fix the upper radiator hose and was quoted 400 bucks for half an hour of work. They said the part could only be ordered from the dealership and it would cost 270 bucks... for a HOSE and a piece of PLASTIC. I thought that was crazy, but if that was the only place they could get it, then thats what the price had to be. I did a couple of quick searches and found the part brand new I needed for between 100 to 130 bucks, between half to almost one third the price. Because tuffy seemed so great, I wanted them to do the work. I called them and said I have the part and would like to bring it in. They refused to do the work with my part. Claimed liability issues(plenty of other mechanics like belle tire have no problem using customers parts). So the only way they will fix my car is if I pay 400 dollars for plastic and a half an hour of work instead of 100 for the labor. You lost my loyalty and my money. You get 2 stars because aside from this I still respect your customer service, just not your business practices. Good luck Tuffy.

I had them replace my brake light bulb when changing the oil on my vehicle. When I returned home I noticed that the brake light was still not working. I called and scheduled a return visit for the bulb replacement, again. After waiting for over an hour, they finished the job concluding it wasnt the bulb but a wiring issue. However, the biggest concern of mine is when I returned home to look at the brake light myself, I noticed my bumper under the tail light had been scratched beyond belief from the workers at Tuffy Auto Services. Upset at my findings I notified John, whom requested a picture of the damages.. I sent the picture and he emailed me back saying they would take care of it and to bring my car into the shop, again. Nothing else was said... no apologies, no concern for the damage or that a customer was upset, nothing at all. He even had the audacity to offer me $5 for gas when I said I didnt want to waste gas to drive there for the 3rd time in a week. $5 for gas for a truck, in my mind, is ridiculous. When I spoke up about being upset that I received no apologies, the lack of concern and my desire for a refund, I was never to hear back from them again. Needless to say, the costumer service there is HORRIBLE/non-existent. I wont be returning nor do I recommend them.
