Pros: - I LOVE my personal trainer (Brittany), and there is always more than enough space and equipment in the mornings (I go 6-8am) - The membership cost, not including the trainer, is only $32 because my roommate and I are on a family plan. Super affordable. - The people there in the morning are friendly, non-threatening, and mostly just stick to themselves. I dont feel intimidated. Cons: - Mirror/hair dryer space in the mornings can get too crowded, and dryers are super weak. I know, I can just bring my own, but my bag is already pretty full and Im lazy. - The hard sell upon signing up SUCKS. I dont want to feel pressured into anything, I dont want to have salespeople offer me any "special deals," and I dont want to feel like I cant ask questions without giving them more room to push harder. Just, stop it you guys. (Full disclosure: I DID get a trainer, but it was after the hard sell and I just picked a price I could afford and thought was reasonable and brought it to them to see if they would accept it. They did. My biggest complaint is that I wish I could get a trainer monthly instead of being locked into a year-long contract. in the end, it was totally worth it for me because I need the accountability and motivation to even start exercising at all. I wont do it again once my contract is up.) - The bathrooms often arent cleaned by 6am yet. Its not a huge deal, but having a nice clean space to come to that early in the morning makes a difference. - Seriously, why cant we just have towels provided? - Wipe stations are just paper towels and sanitizer. So, three stars because they are affordable but still have almost everything I want. The biggest reason I didnt give 4 stars is because of that hard sell and closed-off attitude of the employees (trainers excluded).

Cancelling a membership is like pulling teeth. I came in one evening at 4:15pm. I said I would like to cancel a membership. They told me that the guy who could cancel isnt in, but any location will be able to cancel from 9am-6pm. I said, you should look at the time. Its 4:15pm. These idiots cant even follow the the information they give out. So after 10 minutes of hassle, they agreed to call the st louis park gym to have someone there cancel. I said alright. St louis Park would call me when they were finished. I didnt believe any of them, so I showed up at the st louis park location at 5:50pm and asked them about it. THEY NEVER RECEIVED A CALL.. WOW. So I demanded that the receptionist there call the Edina gym back. They said the manager (Nate) had been there all day. So they may have lied to me initially. I talked to them and demanded they cancel the membership. They said they would take care of it. I still didnt believe them, so I called them back a few days later, and the membership still wasnt cancelled, but they finally did then, most likely because they got sick of me calling them back.

The equipment is decent. Not spectacular, but it generally works. Locations are good - one near home, one by work - so theres that. Customer service *in person* is adequate. Not bad, not great. Theyve always been OK to me. However, calling ANY Metro LAFitness is always an exercise (hahaha) in frustration; for whatever reason, every person that answers a phone at an LAF seems to have lousy diction and no ability to do anything you ask without setting the phone on the desk for five minutes at a shot. I called to cancel a training appointment - it took me seven minutes, and the next time I saw my trainer, she asked where Id been. Grrrr! The cancellation policy they *tell* you about (get a withdrawal slip at the club, send it to Corporate) is BS - but if you ask a manager, they CAN (so they say) cancel a membership (I got them to take my daughters off the account). Trainers: there are good ones, and there are bad ones. The good ones seem to be pretty well worth it. The website, however, is slooooooow and clunky at setting up training sessions.

The equipment, classes, and overall facilities are decent. However, the parking lot is extremely cramped, you have to walk through the weight room to get to the locker rooms(awkward), and termination policies are ridiculous. I completely understand the industry standard of paying first/last month dues at the beginning of the contract. However, giving the club 20 days lead time to cancel, in addition to LA Fitness making you mail in a a piece of paper to cancel is flat out ridiculous. After doing all this I called Customer Service(15 days later) to validate they had gotten my cancellation notice(which they hadnt), and they proceeded to tell me to send another notice to them via certified mail. Are you kidding me? Cant the guy in customer service who is sitting next to the mainframe computer that collects all of the dues just flip a switch on my account? Anyway, I wanted out of the contract so bad that I sent another piece of mail certified, which ended up costing me another $6. SO, unless you plan on working out with them for life, dont join.

I joined the gym over the summer and Ive been really pleased so far. Unlike other gyms Ive joined in the past, I actually want to go this time around. I go to LA Fitness about 12-15 times a month. They have classes such as Zumba, Cardio kickboxing, yoga, and more! Theres also a pool, sauna, and of course, the workout and weightlifting equipment. The parking lot is very big, so parking has not been a problem for me. The gym doesnt seem too crowded, but well see what its like after New Years. You can go to any LA Fitness in the metro with your membership, which is nice if another club offer a class that your main one doesnt. A few cons: only 4 lanes for swimming, they wont change the TV channels by the workout equipment, the cleaning stuff for the equipment just looks like hand sanitizer, and you need to bring your own towels, yoga mats, etc. Otherwise its a great gym and I feel that it will really make a difference in my overall health and wellness!

Awful. The daycare had placed some random strangers name listed elgible to pick up our child. We notified management and they said the persons name was removed...only to find out that the name was still on the list months later after checking multiple times. In addition, my wife dropped off our daughter without adding my name to pick her up to see how tight the security was. I showed up my first day and walked out with my kid, without anyone speaking to me, let alone checking who I was. Set up personal training times twice, which both times the TRAINER was a no show. I contacted management and they set up a free trainer session...and the trainer was a no show. If you dont mind the risk of someone walking off with your kid and you dont mind your trainer not showing up for the session where they didnt show up....then this is the place for you. Otherwise you can find somewhere that puts in more effort than LA Fitness Edina.

Its sad that the only people leaving reviews are the ones that are upset. The gym is kept very clean and the machines are up to date. The staff are good people. Yes, theres always going to be a goofball in the staff but what the hell do you expect for 20 bucks a month? I dont understand how they can even survive on such a low membership fee. The most anyone pays is $35. Yes, they try to push people on personal training and new memberships, but thats not their fault. They are pressured on sales just like any other business and yes sometimes they do push too hard, but thats them trying to keep their jobs. If you dont like it, tell them. I had a membership with Northwest Fitness for many years and it was the best all around gym, but you paid $90 a month and that was 15 ye ars ago. There are some really crappy gyms out there. The Edina LA Fitness is not one of them.
