A recent check on our car by another shop leaves me even more frustrated with this place than I already was. A year and a half ago we had our brakes checked at American Tire as part of an oil change and were told we needed new brakes. We have changed pads before and decided to do them ourselves. After removing the old pads, only one was really ready to change out--there was pretty severe uneven wear between the two pads, which definitely indicates a problem. We took the car back and they said uneven wear meant we needed a new caliper, brake lines, etc. We decided to pay the $470 to have them do it. It was frustrating that the technician doing the brake check did not mention the uneven wear. Even if we had decided not to change out a new caliper ourselves, it would have been helpful to know about the uneven wear and potential caliper problem. This would have saved us going home, taking the tires off, and changing out both pads before discovering the problem ourselves. On top of all that, we have now learned from another shop that there is supposedly uneven wear again and they are recommending a new left front caliper--the same one that was a problem and was replaced only a year and a half ago by American Tire! Also, a year ago my husband hit a deer while I was in labor in the hospital and he took the car to American to make sure it was driveable. They said it only needed a wheel balance and alignment, which he had done. We still had a lot of steering wheel shaking at a certain speed after that, so we took it back. They said they would re-balance the wheels for free. We still had the same problem with the wheel shaking after this and decided to try another local shop for a second opinion. Without even looking at the vehicle, the other shop said it sounded like a bent tie rod from the impact. They changed the tie rod and then we had to also get another new alignment, but the wheel shake finally went away. The guys at the desk are nice, but Im not sure whats going on back in the garage over the last year and a half that they cant seem to get things right for us. Clearly lots of others are having great experiences there, but we have been pretty frustrated overall. ***NOTE: I dont know how to reply to the owners response that there is no record of my visits, so I will just edit to add: We visited the Mercerville location, but the car is not under my name. If you feel you need to confirm the validity of this review in some way, you can find our car under my husband, Daniel Knoblach. Thanks.

I had tires installed here in December of 2009, and for all 4 tires all the way around, it was a great price, especially since they didnt recycle the visibly worn out tires and instead put them in my back seat. I told them and they took them out, no charge, when normally youd have to pay a recycle fee. That was the good news. Unfortunately, when I had to take the wheel off a few months later, I was unable to unscrew them with a compressed air gun! I had to take a large wrench and a 4 foot metal pole to get enough leverage to take it off. They WAY overtightened the lugnuts and I think they actually just turned it up to full power and screwed the first nut all the way in, since there was one in particular that just wouldnt budge. That is NOT how you do it. This would have been expensive to get a tow truck if I had a flat tire, since a lugtool that comes with cars would not have gotten it off, so I wouldnt have been able to change it on my own. That was bad news... The worse news is that I took it back there and asked them to take the wheels off and then put them back on tight, just not AS tight. They even said they had a tough time getting the one wheel off. The worst part is... I was driving down the street and heard a clunking noise that felt like and sounded almost like a flat tire. I took it to a reputable shop, thinking it was a suspension component gone bad, and they said that the wheel was a few highway miles away from flying right off!! They said they were able to unscrew it with thier hands. Bottom Line: Maybe I just had a couple of bad experiences. I am sure these guys arent scheming up ways to endanger people. With that said, they arent the most careful about thier work and it can end up putting you in a bit of danger. Something tells me that losing a wheel going down the interstate would ruin my day.

I checked the reviews thinking this might be a decent shop since I need to do pre-purchase inspection. So I called to check and was surprised that they do offer inspection for free. However, they did the inspection very UNPROFESSIONAL which led me to a bad decision on buying this used car. They spotted the issues for the front struts, lower oil pan gasket, and wear-off brake pads. I have to say Im not that knowledgeable about car issues so I trusted their profession and bought the car thinking its a good buy. Who knows later on one of my friend helped me to check the car and found out THESE PROFESSIONALS missed the leaking axle and also the broken silencer. My friend just heard the engine sound and spotted that silencer problem. I really dont understand why American Tire & Auto cant spot it? And one other ridiculous thing is about my tire pressure. I dont know if they checked it although they supposed to. But when I checked it afterwards, it was like 50psi. And the recommendation is 32psi. I was so shocked about this. HOW COME THIS COULD HAPPEN??? Really bad experience and I dont know if thats because they are TOO BUSY??

My fiancé had a hell of a birthday after getting a new truck for himself. By new, I mean new to him. It was a 93 Dodge w250 cummins. We woke up to a flat tire the morning of his birthday. Lucky for him, the truck had a full size spare which got me to work. However, the spare was different from all the rest and he wanted matching tires. I had a look at the other tires and found that they were all dry rotted. I called a few places and decided to give American Tire a shot. I had heard good things about them. I asked Phil to have a look as well. He agreed that the truck needed new tires. Phil was able to get me a great price for 35s all terrain tires. And they came that day! I was so delighted. We decided to do all 4. And havent had any problems since. Phil even did a follow up call to make sure everything has been good. Over all, Friendly staff and they were able to get us in on short notice. Thank you so much! I would seriously recommend going here. Phil was great!

These guys just earned customers for life after my last three experiences there. The work is always performed quickly and expertly, and at a price that I have yet to see matched elsewhere- but they match other shops coupons! The value added for services rendered means you get far more bang for your buck here (I bought a headlight bulb but could not get it into the mounting myself- they put the bulb in for free! That is just one example). The front desk staff, specifically Frank Silva, was patient and polite explaining some very detailed maintenance work to my wife. Several labor-intensive items were repaired/serviced and we were able to pick the car up the very next day, and well under what I would have had to pay elsewhere. I have zero reservation in recommending American Tire & Auto to any of my friends or family who mention needing a mechanics help.
