10 days after buying my 2005 Ford Explorer from DeFelice, I had a check engine light. I was told by the Used Car Manager (Jeff) that because I did not get my car to him and fixed within 14 days, he was under no obligation to pay for the repair. I had a scheduled appointment for day 18 but they were only going to tell me what the light was for – they would need for me to leave it during the week to make the repair – no one says anything about day 14. When they were able to run the check engine and look at the car, they said I need a new fuel pump. That part is not covered by warranty (lemon law) – it would cost $830, they would do it for $750 (not a bad price). I argued they should pay for the repair. Jeff stuck to his 14 day rule. I explained I hadn’t been through inspection – because it would fail, I hadn’t made a car payment but I’m supposed to pay for a repair? Jeff said during our conversation that his dealership was not the type that clears check engine codes and then sells the car hoping it won’t come back before inspection, which never occurred to me. I explained again that I have no sticker. Nothing. No pass/failed – nothing. He eventually offered to split the cost --$300+ taxes. A new fuel pump for $300-350 …. Cannot be beat. Initially I said yes then had a change of heart and felt they should make the repair for free and earn my business. The check engine on day 10 is the same one on day 14 vs day 30, and as a matter of fact is the same code the previous owner had before he got rid of it. They said 300 was their best offer. I told them put the keys in the car, lock the car, I’ll be by to get it and pay Ford 4 times what you’re asking because I’m now (and today) questioning both your honesty and integrity. Yesterday it occurred to me, part of what sealed the deal was the impeccable CarFax – which they provided. I re-read it. Every 5k miles at Ford for oil, tire rotation and general maintenance – without fail. The 2nd to last diary notation is most interesting. The car went to a different Ford dealer than it always goes to - to check the fuel system. Car Fax doesn’t indicate if it was repaired. I called the dealership who pulled the notes – the owner came in with a check engine and the code happened to match mine. The owner did not make the repair, just had the code read. A week later, he was back at his old dealership for the oil and tires; in speaking with them, that’s all they did and it was the last entry before showing up in NJ 3k miles later. Last few items. If you do purchase a car, know they will charge for window etching automatically – don’t need that for an ’05. It was rattled off as we were going through the checklist. You simply need to tell them you don’t want it, they’ll take it off. My salesman was great. Everyone was very nice, including Jeff and I would certainly be singing a different tune if they would have stood by their motto vs. their rule and did the right thing and make the repair.

Used car buyers BEWARE! Although the website says they have been relying on honesty and integrity since 1946 that was not the case when I recently purchased a used Hyundai Santa Fe from them in Dec 2015. This vehicle had been on their lot for at least a few months (based on the CarFax) and they apparently did not care to give it a "vigorous inspection" as they claim to do. Only 2 months after having it, I had my mechanic do a quick check on the engine, something I should have done from the beginning but based on their said values and one of them knowing my father for over a decade I inadvertently placed my trust in them. He found the timing belt to have a few tears in it and said this could ruin the entire engine if it snaps (based on the mileage which is only 70K it should have been changed 10K miles ago). I cordially contacted the dealership and asked for some help with the repairs and to seek to right the wrong here since it was such a short time after purchasing. I even offered to trade it in for another similar priced vehicle if they didnt want to have the integrity to fix it. They kept giving me the runaround and rather than waiting for my engine to be damaged I paid the huge amount needed to fix it. The mechanic found other problems in there too and now the exhaust sounds like a motorcycle and it doesnt want to go over 50mph!! Sure smells like a lemon here and with them knowing that I have 4 kids to drive around it angers me to have my kids driving in an unsafe vehicle. All I ask is they right the wrong be sure that the vehicle is sold in tip top condition. Isnt that what you would want in purchasing a vehicle?

The sales man was vary intent on getting me into a truck that was more than i wanted too spend, even when i had already decided on the truck i wanted. they were nice for the most part but there quality of inventory is over rated. none of the trucks i test drove even the one i bought had not had any repair or money put into them like the sales man said. i had too take my truck two weeks after i bought it too get a new trans put into it to a shop where they told me that none of the trans, engine oil, air filter, or any basic care was done in a vary long time. the dealer/saleman told me that they had check the whole truck out and there was nothing wrong with it. but there was, they will say anything too get you too buy from them. this is just the sales man i had maybe another one would have been better. they are the typical used car dealer in my opinion, you can get lucky but in my case i didnt. how ever i have a new trans now and the truck is fine now. but i would have spent more on this truck if they had just serviced and repair the truck before they put it on the lot for sale. so too the dealer i say repair and service your inventory before you put it on sale that way you sell working vehicals and get good reviews aswell as keep and make new customers. i will not bee buying another truck from defelice auto.

Over the years, Ive purchased 3 vehicles from DeFelice. If you count my family & friends who I recommended to this dealership the total would reach a dozen vehicles purchased. Im a little shocked at some of the reviews Im reading here because from the minute I walked onto the lot until I drove off with my new vehicle, every single time, everything was seamless!! There was never any pressure and the vehicles they sell are in the best condition! I also choose to have my vehicles serviced by DeFelice (warranty or no warranty). I cant imagine I will ever buy a "new" car as long as they are in business. When it comes to customer service, they go above and beyond!! They have never "fluffed" a service appointment telling me they "found" additional problems (which many dealerships do). They treat their customers like family. If you are looking for a reliable vehicle to get back and forth to work/school OR if you are looking for a fun sports car to drive OR if you like SUVs/Trucks, DeFelice must be the first place you visit! They are the most honest, trustworthy and reliable people youll find... From the showroom platform to the sales team... to the service crew... to the girls running the office! Thank you DeFelice for providing the best vehicles! I will forever be a loyal customer!!!
