I had extremely bad experience having business with Alpine Heating and Cooling. I had issues with HVAC and I called this company. Mechanic arrived in time. I already knew, that system loss all refrigerant. I was expecting estimate for repair to make a decision. Mechanic did not bring any equipment, did not put much effort in troubleshooting, but from the beginning tell me he need to put some special gas in the system to check for leak. He was ready to start to do it, when I carefully asked, what is price for this test and what repair will cost. I got back: $275 for test and there is not any warranty that test give any result, but on positive side, he said, this cost will be included in coil replacement…. !!!?? WOW. It is Interesting information. On my question about total repair cost (at least approximate) he was not able to provide any information. When I asked, that maybe it will be cheaper to replace complete system, he said sure, packed his paper (there is no equipment if you remember) and tell that his boss will call me with estimate……??? (estimate for complicated system by phone?) He did not ask for email. He did not check home dimensions to estimate system capacity. He did not check duct system. He just left. I never received any calls from this company anymore (except one call from mechanic before his arrival), but week later I got invoice for $101.65. I called them and asked what for they are charging me? I tell that nobody notified me I will be charged for repair job estimates. Mechanic did not provide any service, and nobody signed any contract with me about anything. I got back extremely rude response “…only maroon could not understand that all services should be paid, the person should be complete idiot if he doesn’t know that in America nothing for free ….. Maybe in other countries than America it is free, but any American knows that services are not free and this is common sense…..” It was really disturbing experience. First time I am getting remarks like this in my address. Considering that I have heavy accent, I personally consider this as a racist’s attack. BAD BAD BAD

I purchased a new furnace and AC unit from Alpine in June 2010. I live 45 minutes from their location but they advertised in my area and did not reject my business. A major reason I bought from Alpine was because they had a terrific warranty. They gave a 10 year parts warranty and offered service within 24 hours guaranteed for any repair. When my unit stopped working in May 2017, I called for service on Saturday, May 14th. I was told to call again during the week to schedule service. I called Monday, May 16th and was told the earliest I could get service was May 31st. When I asked about their 24 hour guarantee, I was told “That was something that they don’t do anymore.” They eventually moved the service appointment up to May 26th - nearly 2 weeks after my initial phone call. When I spoke to a manager on the phone about how they broke their contract with me, they refused to offer any price adjustment on the labor fee, and refused to live up to the contract that they used as incentive for me to buy from them. The manager, in justifying her position, insinuated that the distance from their location to my house was a burden to them. She explained how it was nice for them to come all the way to my house and not have a travel time charge added to my bill. It is baffling to me how a company can sell a warranty to a customer and then tell them that not only is the contract “something we don’t do anymore” before it’s expiration, but to also be told that the distance to the customers house is a burden on them. Even more baffling is how they advertise a service contract on the bottom of their invoice! Seems like a great deal for them since they dont have to actually live up to it! I hope if you choose Alpine, you do not have a similarly disappointing experience.

The Best Service, Products, and People - My attic central heating/air conditioning unit failed after about 15 years of flawless service. I had a contract with PSE&G that I paid for every month for over a decade. When they came and saw the unit was in the attic, they told me they would not work on it. Of course, they did not refund my money. DO NOT BUY A CONTRACT FROM PSE&G since it is a total rip-off. Since PSE&G refused to do the work, I shopped around and kept hearing about Alpine. I called them on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, and was immediately treated like part of their family. They came, checked out the situation and went back to talk about it with their team. The owner then came and reviewed what they had learned and he suggested a few different approaches after asking me what was important to me. We selected the approach and they started the next day. By yesterday afternoon (March 17), the old unit was completely removed and replaced. The Alpine folks left their work area clean and neat. That night, we needed heat. It worked like a charm. Today, we are all surprised with a 79 degree day. The A/C came on and worked better than the old one ever did. The Alpine team, the equipment, and their professional service have totally blown me away. They have far exceeded my wildest expectations. You cannot go wrong with Alpine, especially if you listen to their advice and do what they suggest.

It is easy to make appointments. The technicians come on time. They do overall good job - but not perfect. The main pain point is they charge too much. Very expensive. The service call charge is around $100, which is not too bad but then they charge around $120 per hour to diagnose (whether it is A/C, heater, etc.) The service call is waived if they find major issue. The materials also cost 3-4 times more than the market rate. So if anything is broken, expect to pay around $500 but again it depends on what is broken. I am not sure whether they purposely take really long time to fix something so they can jack up the price. Arthur (the owner) treats you well before starting the project. But if anything goes wrong and you give bad grades (for example if you choose their service via HomeDepot then HomeDepot will send you evaluation at the end) then Arthur will call you and gets really angry at you. He just cant take criticism (even if it is their mistake). Overall not very happy with their service. I would look for somewhere else. You have been warned.

We have been customers of Alpine H&C since 1996 and have had a service contract with them for our a/c. They came every year to do the annual check up to keep in great running condition for the coming cooling season. They have done a great job as it has never needed a repair in all that time. In 2012 we were finally able to convert from oil to gas heat when NJ Gas brought their line onto our block. Alpine was the 1st one we called for their advice in choosing a furnace that suited our needs and gave us all the information that we needed to help make a decision. We also got a 2nd estimate and Alpines pricing was a bit better than his, but unfortunately we chose the 2nd dealer ONLY because they offered a long term payment plan at no interest and that was really helpful to us as seniors on a tight budget. But we strongly feel that Alpine and their entire staff would have done a great job of installation and in a timely manner as they were always very professional in our long time relationship with them. Give them a chance to do the same for you!
