1. Winter tires are made for a lower temperature range than all-season or summers tires Many drivers think that they can save money by riding their winter wheels all year round. Surely if a tire that can handle tough winter conditions can handle warmth, right? Unfortunately this is completely wrong. All tires start life with differently engineered rubber compounds, each designed for specific temperature ranges. Winter tires are designed to have flexible tread below the freezing mark. Compared to summer compound tires, which have a lot of smooth tire blocks for maximum surface area grip, winters have a lot more sipes and softer compound tread blocks. These flexible heavily siped blocks are designed for gripping onto uneven snowy or icy surfaces and not for consistently dry and warm pavement. 2. Your winter tires will wear much faster above 7 degrees Celsius As the aforementioned sipes and tread blocks come into contact with the dry and warmer spring pavement, heat is created as the rubber blocks are compressed. Why? Because the sipes rapidly open and close as they come into contact with the dry pavement with no snow or ice to cool them down. And too much heat is the worst enemy of a tire. 3. You will not be able to stop your car as quickly By design, compared to a good all-season tire, a winter tire will have 2-3 times as many tread blocks. On dry and warm pavement though, this flexible-by-design construction can make stopping distances significantly longer. Regardless of the type of tire, too much heat makes a tire’s tread blocks too flexible. The tire will have a squirmy or greasy feel because it is literally chemically dissolving. At over 30 degrees Celsius, the winter tires’ rubber will start to marble. A dangerous situation as little rubber balls are formed and will spin under the wheel. A 2012 Consumer Reports study found that winter tire equipped cars (in spring/summer conditions) needed one-and-half to two car lengths more stopping distance! The hotter the ambient temperature, the longer the stopping distance. A potentially dangerous scenario.. You will not be able to control the car as well A winter/summer tire comparison study done by Continental Tires found that there is around 15 per cent less steering precision when using winter tires during warm spring/summer temperatures. The same study found that in summer conditions, winter tires reached their critical limits below 70 km/hr during an avoidance maneuver. By contrast, the same maneuver is unproblematic even at 80 km/hr when equipped with summer tires. 5. You will be spending more money on fuel Due to the softer and stickier rubber compound, winter tires have a much higher rolling resistance.olling resistance is defined as the energy that is lost when the tire is rolling. The main reason for loss of energy is the constant deformation of the tire. The level of wear on winter tires is high at warm times of the year and the rolling resistance is 15% higher than that of summer tires. Final Tip When you are swapping your tires, be sure to take a look at the amount of tread left on your winter tires. For the best traction in snow, tire For comparison, most tires come with new with about 11/32 to 12/32 of an inch tread depth. If you do not have the recommended amount, now is a good time to plan ahead to save money for new winter tires well in advance of the next winter season. manufacturers recommend a minimum tread depth of 6/32 of an inch. WITH THIS ALL SAID DURING YOUR SO CALLED 101 POINT CHECK TIRES SHOULD OF BEEN CHANGED ON A CAR SOLD IN JUNE VERY UN SAFE AND WHEN ASKED MANAGERS SAID THEY ARE OK WOULD HE PUT THESE TIRES ON HIS CAR FOR THE SUMMER????? CANNOT FIND ONE REPORT WHERE THEY SAYS YOU CAN USE THESE TIRES ABOVE 40 DEGREES BUT THEY CLAIM YOU CAN.

I bought a used Mercedes Benz for about $27.000. It was such an ordeal. I went there several times and every visit took at least 1 hour. Once I picked the car I liked, I asked about fixing four issues I found: 1) Scratches on the hood; sales person said they would fix it. 2) Check engine light was on; sales person said they would fix it. This has been a problem since I bought the car. 3) Many chips in the windshield, sales rep said they would fix it. 4) Car pulls to the right after about 50 feet, sales person said, they would fix it. I added the additional insurance, laser measured floor mats and the some wax coating for the bottom of the car. We negotiated a monthly rate and when we went to the financial person, he had a higher monthly rate. I asked for the sales person and he said he could not do anything about the higher rate. What?! At the day of pickup the scratches were still there, the engine light did not come on, the car still pulled to the right, and the chips in the windshield have been patched up. They already made an appointment for the pulling to the right with Mercedes Benz of Buffalo. I asked if they had the second key and the sales person said, they only got one key and it would be about $450 to make a copy. I was not interested in a second key for $450 bucks. FYI, five weeks later I got the original second key in the mail. On the next day as soon as I started the car, the engine light came on again, as if somebody just cleared out the error code with a diagnostic tool without actually fixing it. I went back to Basil Chevrolet and it took almost three weeks for them to get it back to me. They had to bring it to Mercedes Benz of Buffalo to have it fixed. After a few months, the engine light came on again, same problem! I called Basil, explained, and asked what I have to do in order to get it fixed. Also mentioned I have the insurance with vanishing deductible (meaning no $100 deductible for me). They told me to drop it off at Benz in Buffalo, and I will get a loaner from Benz for the duration. Arrived at Benz at 7:30am, they did not know of any arrangement nor anything about a loaner. Turns out I should have went to Basil first to assess the issue and have them try to fix it and have to make sure they have a loaner available. A few months after purchase, the windshield cracked as well and needed full replacement! Last week the check engine light came on again! I had a technician check it and it is the same issue as before! Every time I step in this car I think about the bad experience I had buying it. I cannot wait to get rid of it. At no point of time did they ever try to make things right. The sales counselor raved about having in house technicians skilled in fixing imports. That definitely is not true for Mercedes Benz, since they had to send it to Mercedes Benz every time. Looks like a $30.000 lemon! Thank you, Basil!

Took my car which is a Chevy Malibu 2005 to Basil because it was stalling out. They sent me here to have the ECM replaced because it was stalling out. I asked them for a rental or a loaner car to get me around since they couldnt fix it right away. So I asked the girl that checked my car in to call a few rental places for me because I am deaf and I needed transportation. After she made a few calls with no success on finding me a rental car she had an attitude. She said she doesnt have the time to make these calls and to go use the phone in the waiting room. I told her I was deaf and cannot hear on those phones and she was being mean to me about it. So I had to find someone else to do this for me. They didnt have anything available. Left my car there 2 days just to have them tell me they wanted over 4 thousand dollars on repairs I didnt ask for. They found 5 things wrong charging me over 1000 for each part. I told them I was not paying 4000 when only one thing was wrong with the car. They wanted 1500 for the one repair I needed. When I went to pick up the car they charged me over 160 just to look at it and they didnt fix a thing because I told them I was not paying 4000 dollars. I took my car to three different mechanics after I got it and got the computer part replaced for less than 200 dollars. And they found nothing else wrong with the car except for a hole in my muffler which this Chevrolet dealer did not even mention to me. Believe me this place tried to rip me off thousands of dollars telling me 5 things were wrong with my car when there was nothing wrong with those parts they wanted 4000 for. This was a terrible experience and they would not help me out with my car in the right way. I will not come back here again ever. I paid only 188 to to have the ECM replaced and 199 for a new muffler. It cost me only 400 dollars to get my car up and running in perfect condition. I cannot believe this dealer wanted over 4 thousand from me. This place is a total rip off. I emailed at the address you gave me below and didnt get any response yet. If this dealer can kindly refund me the 150 for their dishonesty and trying to rip me off 4000 and for not fixing anything I would appreciate it. Otherwise I am considering filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I paid over 160 but just asking for 150 back. Thanks
