WARNING: DO NOT USE THIS PLACE FOR A WEDDING!!!!!! While planning my wedding in Ithaca, I was recommended Transformations by my wedding venue. I decided to book them for some appointments for my family the day before the wedding, and also appointments for the day of the wedding for our mothers, grandmothers, and a coupe other people involved in the ceremony. I called a couple of months in advance to make the arrangements, and called back the week before to confirm that everything was all set. A couple of days before the wedding we even dropped in to talk about the arrangements, and pay for our mothers make-up in advance, which we had given them as mothers day presents. The day before the wedding my mother and sister showed up for their hair and nail appointments. They were on a tight schedule to make the rehearsal dinner, but we had made the appointments with plenty of time to make it. Trouble started right when they arrived, as it became clear that they were far behind schedule. In the end, they said they could not do my sisters haircut because her hair was "too long," and blamed me for not informing them (which they did not ask). In the end, they had to leave after having only one of the nail appointments completed and none of the hair. When I spoke to them on the phone to ensure the same problem wouldnt happen on the wedding day, they informed me that there was another wedding scheduled that morning before ours so they could not guarantee we would be done in time. I asserted that I had made these appointments months in advance, the woman smugly told me that this wedding had been booked first and took priority. When I asked why they would have promised me an appointment months ago that they knew they did not have available, the woman replied, "why would we turn down business?" I will reiterate: this woman openly admitted to lying about a service she could not provide in order to get money from me. The night before my wedding I was forced to find other appointments for the wedding day. To this day they have not reimbursed the money we paid in advance for the make-up applications. If there is anything important or time sensitive, or if you value giving your money to an honest business, stay away from this place!

I admit it, Im a salon-hopper. I never stay loyal to one place, and I put off haircuts for months because Im generally pretty sure Ill only feel *okay* about what I leave with on my head. Until now. This evening I wandered into Transformations because I recognized their name, and the parking was plentiful, location convenient. The woman I encountered when I first walked in was a delight, and chatted easily with me about paint colors for walls because I complimented the decor. She worked me in for a walk-in, and I waited only a few minutes in their very comfortable sitting area. Amber was the stylist I was paired with, and I can honestly say, I am not an easy cut. I come in with hair that needs some lovin, and I give little more direction than: "Please make it shorter, but not too short, and if you can do some magic with how thin I perceive it to be, thatd be awesome. Also, please make maintenance easy, and accomplish world peace." And would you believe it? I am so incredibly happy with my cut! It has movement, I can run my fingers through it, and Im probably going to have whiplash by the end of the weekend because I keep flipping my damn head back and forth. To top it all off, Amber was a hoot to chat with while she was cutting my hair, and I can even say that my time at Transformations was not only productive, pleasant and relaxing, but fun too. Thanks so much! <3 Your New Loyal Customer

This review is for a single visit to the salon. I have curly hair and needed a cut. When making an appointment, I specifically asked for someone with experience and skill cutting curly hair. I was told that a number of their stylists are "Deva certified"; made an appointment with Melanie. While perfectly nice and patient (I showed up with a 4 months old baby), Melanie has very little experience dealing with curly hair. I asked to fix the neck line, take out some volume and give it some shape. Unfortunately, she doesnt have a very good feel for curly hair. (She kept referring to the pictures of straight hair styles, while discussing what I want). She cut my hair dry (which is a good thing), but she did it as if it were straight hair (i.e. making sure that everything is perfectly straight/even). 1.5 hrs and $70 later, I ended up with the most dull cut I ever had, no volume was taken out, there is no shape or texture. Very disappointed. I noticed a Deva certificate on the wall, dated Sept 2014. Conclusion: the certification is all about selling Deva products and "educating" clients how to treat and style the hair. Ive had curly hair my whole life - I dont need to be "educated". Melanie, while perfectly nice, has little skill cutting curly hair.

DONT GO HERE FOR FORMAL STYLING For my prom I wanted a fishtail braid in the back and the front of my hair curled and pinned into the fish tail. I showed the lady the picture and she started braiding from the front all the way to the back, tight and lumpy, BUT IT WASNT EVEN A FISH TAIL. I asked for her not to braid the front of my hair and she did it anyways, and it wasnt ANYTHING like the picture. not even similar. I had Melanie as my stylist. dont ever go to her for formal styling. I had to pay 60 for it, and ended up having one of my friends who knows how to do fish tails do my hair for me. Absolutely ridiculous. The picture below is what I wanted, the next one is what I got. (picture was not me because I was too upset with my hair that I took the braids out before taking a picture)

I had been growing my hair out for over four years with the intent to donate it. When the time came, I had zero doubt who I wanted to chop it, Tasha down at Transformations. I met her six or seven years ago when she fixed a horrible haircut I received from a mall place that will go un-named, but masters of cutting hair, they were not. Over the years, Tasha has given me advice on many aspects of hair, even telling me what supplements a female friend of mine could take to help with her thinning hair, and my friend ended up from being able to see her scalp to really thick, full hair. Sounds like an infomercial, but Tasha really is a very talented hair professional, deserving if the title of artist. I recommend her to everyone!!!

I was heartbroken with the haircut I got at Transformations; the cut they gave me was horrific. I asked for 3-4 inches to be taken off, and for long layers to be put in my hair. I also stressed very much I did NOT want the ends to appear blunt and fluffy, but wanted LAYERS. I even brought in a picture of what I had in mind...I was VERY clear about what I wanted. The result was about 6-7 inches cut off by the time all was said and done with hardly any layers. The cut looks awful, they may as well have just put it in a pony tail to cut it with how blunt and awful my ends look. The staff was very friendly, but what is customer service worth if your hair gets hacked?
