We have used Charlotte Street Computers because it is very close to home and we believe in supporting locally owned business. So those of us in the family who buy and use Apple computers have bought there and used their services to transfer data. Their service is comparatively slow, unless you pay the expediting fee, but otherwise reasonable--until lately. We bought a new Macbook Pro because we would no longer live with the dongle hell that Apple gave us with the new one-port Macbook. The Pro crashed hard four days later. The people at Charlotte Street guessed that it might have happened because the computer was shut down during an update (Apple does silent updates). We said that we would appreciate anything they could do to retrieve data, but we wanted a new computer. They said they would not do that, but would give us a free expedited service. Two days later, they returned the computer, saying they had returned it to its original state as a new computer, which was not true, because it had a "tech" sector that didnt belong. The next morning it crashed again. We called, and they said they would not replace the computer but would help us work with Apple on a replacement. Since we had purchased AppleCare, we expected better, and called Apple, who told us that any licensed Apple Store was required to take back a computer for a refund for any reason within 14 days. Why did Charlotte Computer refuse to honor that? The Apple representative said it was odd, looked into it, and recommended that we not go back to Charlotte Street but deal exclusively with Apple itself, which were doing but at further cost of time. As for getting the data off the 4-day-old computer, well, its just four days of work lost. And dont believe what reviewers say about "friendly service"--its friendly right up to where you dont agree entirely that they are right about everything. By comparison, my son bought an expensive gaming laptop from BestBuy, decided he wanted even more power and would build a desktop from scratch, and BestBuy returned his money promptly, no questions asked. They sell Apple, too, and if we stick with Apple, well be buying from them, and using the Geek Squad for service.

What a rare treat to have someone who is competent, honest, thorough and at an extremely reasonable price. Incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I have a friends who shipped me their computer from Burkina Faso West Africa due to an overheating issue...at least we thought. I am an IT Pro and was going to work at getting the situation remedied until I called Charlotte Street Computers. They handle these issues all of the time and their pricing was incredibly reasonable for out of warranty service on the mac. I was so impressed that I left my MacBook Pro there as well to have them reapply the heat-sink paste as a preventative measure on my machine. After reapplying the heat-sink paste they did testing of the Macbook Pro from West Africa and determined that there was actually the graphics card on the logic board. I started to get nervous about how much it would cost, but they totally worked with me and did not change the agreed upon charges without my approval. Apple ended up covering the logic board as a matter of customer service and Charlotte Street made the repair. I know where I will be going and sending anyone who asks to get their computer repaired.

If i could give a negative star i would. i took my computer in for a virus on 11/23/13 and was told i would have it back before thanksgiving which was 11/28/13. i got it back on 12/2/13. in this time i called for updates on what was going on because they were not calling me. the man working on it was not available so i asked if he could call me back. he never did once. when i got the computer back i lost everything. there were no pictures (my wedding pictures included ), no documents which included passwords for such things like credit cards, banks, job applications etc, resumes, references. my whole life was on that computer and it was gone. the security system that i purchased was gone as well as Microsoft office. it turns out that Charlotte Street Computers took all my data off the computer to fix it and just never put it back. another week goes by as they try to find the data that they backed up. i had to bring my computer back to them to fix again. it is now 3 weeks since i brought in my computer and i have yet to get it back. working correctly. the only positive thing i can say is that they are not charging me extra for the time.

Took my mac laptop, they charged $40 to tell me they used their sophisticated equipment and an hour of time to find out the motherboard was broken. They said they couldnt get mac parts but could find a 3rd party motherboard for $800. I declined and found the motherboard on ebay for $40 with installation instructions. Before I bought I accidently switched power cords with my other laptop, the "broken motherboard" started right up and is still working today for the cost of a $10 powercord. That forever lost my business for repair. On tax free day I bought 3 new laptops and 3 harddrive enclosures from them. I had to take one of the $25 hard drive enclosures back due to a defect, but they refused to honor the sale and has forever lost my business for new purchases as well now. Thank god City Mac has moved in and chased them back to Charlotte St. where I can forget about them completely. City Mac does not lie to their clients and really knows the Mac platform, they should it is an authorized Mac store. DONT TAKE YOUR MAC TO Charlotte Street dishonest computer store!

FANTASTIC.. This is about the 7th or 8th computer/iPad we have purchased from this place.. and each time has been "okay"... Tom continues to be there to help,...BUT... this time it was different in that a young man, Aaron English took care of me. Aaron was VERY helpful, and his patience was beyond great..(he even laughed at my attempt to be funny). I really felt as if I were a special client and he was there to make it the best experience it could be. I got home and found a couple "problems" in getting started... made a call, and once again... patiently, I was talked through what needed to be done. Im a former educator, many years of judging/predicting character.. and Aaron would come way out on top in my humble opinion. When he talked with me, the eye contact was perfect.. truly giving a "message" that he cared about my concerns, and it was manifest in my easily understanding what was being spoken/shown to me. Please give this young man a big pat on the proverbial back.. he deserves it.

Charlotte Street Computers prides themselves on customer satisfaction and returning, loyal customers. They do excellent work and they fully stand behind anything they sell or work on. They may have a 15% restocking fee for returns (as one reviewer said), but many places have to do this due to packaging costs, paperwork handling fees, and other valid reasons. CSC is locally owned by a very hardworking couple who both have excellent reputations in the community. CSC has been voted Best in Western North Carolina for many years by MountainXpress readers because they are the best local company! They support many local charities and non-profits. The best thing about CSC is that the owners started a non-profit program where they DONATE computers to needy people in the community, such as low-income students, single mothers, and public housing community centers. CSC has a computer recycling program called E-cycle Me that has very respectable policies for recycling.
