On Fathers Day of 2013, my GMC Yukon Denalis "service engine soon" light came on...nice. 700 miles from home, towing a trailer, wife and kids along. Doesnt make for a very relaxing vacay, wondering if youll make it back home with your current car. I called around Hatteras, NC, to the various car repair places and finally the auto parts store. The guy that answered the phone told me to check out Auto Banks Car Repair. I drove down to the shop and met Glenn...he checked the situation using a hand-held code diagnosing tool. Turns out my gas cap wasnt sealing correctly...he told me that under really hot conditions, the fuel system can develop enough pressure to cause the gas cap seal to fail. We had taken the ferry over to Ocracoke that day, and my Dad noted that the outside temperature sensor was reading 117 degrees while wewere waiting for the boat. When I re-started the truck, the light was on. Glenn checked my gas cap, checked the seal inside it, and cleaned the top of the gas inlet nozzle. When he replaced the cap, the light was off. Nerve-wracking ride back to Pittsburgh averted! Tried to give Glenn a 20 for his time, but he wouldnt take it. His shop is pretty neat for the small size of it, but seems organized. A pile of replaced parts and tires is outside, as are a bunch of longer-term "project" cars. Dont judge the book by its cover! Thanks, Glenn, for the quick repair. The guy at the auto parts place was right when he said you were "the man".

The shop does subpar work at best. Watch out for the marked up parts pricing, they mark it up way more then it needs to be. They get their parts from NAPA in Buxton which is just up the road and will double the cost of the part. Granted it was a lot of work they had to do on my truck cause of salt water in the fuel system, but on the way back home I had issues that were the result of using worn pieces where there should have been new. Now that I am back home and I can work on my vehicle, I am finding more problems that should have been addressed at their shop. Good experience to start but horrible workmanship after the trip home and taking my own look at the continuing issues that I am having. Be very cautious dealing with them and do the research on the part cost at NAPA verses what they will charge. Will update as I find out all their mistakes.

The power steering on my 2007 Camery Hybird became dis functional. My options included either having the car towed 120 miles to a highly rated dealer or trying to drive the car there with np power steering. Someone suggested calling Auto Banks so I did. He offered to run some computer diagnostics on it. I figured if I at least knew what I was facing, I would be able to develop an optimum plan. I showed up at 2 and waited about 3 minutes. The owner plugged his computer into my car and fiddled with his menus for a bit. The next thing I know, the power steering became functional again. What a life saver! 5 minutes; no charge. Compared to the alternative ($300-400 for towing; $99.95 for the diagnostic computer exam; a rental car for a day and 6 hours driving time), Auto Banks was an incredible deal.

I brought my car in after it developed a loud knocking noise from near the front suspension. I had just had the car into the dealer for a recall service, and thought it was related to that. Turns out the dealer hadnt tightened the lug nuts on the front left tire. He diagnosed the problem and tightened the nuts in a few minutes, and refused to charge me anything for the effort. Cannot recommend more highly.

Great experience. The last thing anyone needs is car trouble while on vacation but should you have an issue while in the Hatteras area, I would definitely recommend Glen. He took care of my car right away (no waiting) and didnt charge me an arm and a leg for the repair.

I had to get our car towed because of the alternator. I called ABX and had my car towed there. The price they gave over the phone was the price when it was finished. I am impressed and thankful.
