Im going to do my best to not write a novel on here but Bessie deserves it. Ill be the first to admit that writing a review is LONG overdue. A friend introduced me to Monroe Avenue Salon after getting a haircut from Bessie a couple years ago. I had been in Corvallis attending OSU but had yet to settle on a hairdresser so I was definitely open to trying someone new! Since my first cut and color from Bessie, I have only had one other person touch my hair and it was because I COULDNT get in to go see her. She is the reason I fell in love with ombre and I recommend all of my friends to go see her. Its to the point now, where I walk in with barely an idea of what I want, and ask her what she thinks I should do with my hair because I trust her opinion more than my own. haha! If there is ever a time where I need something altered after I visit her, I am always welcomed back to get things fixed to my liking. I respect her for all the work she puts in to creating such a welcoming environment from the time you walk in to the time you leave. Her clients happiness always comes first. I went here for the first time a few weeks ago because there was a groupon. The groupon was with Bessie, the owner, and I had a terrible experience. Not only did she say she couldnt do what I wanted her to, but she also complained about other customers, had her cell phone going off constantly, made me feel guilty about having a groupon (although I wouldnt have been a customer without it), and bragged about what a good job she was doing. I generally go to a nice salon that charges about $110+tip for a haircut, highlight, lowlight, and style. My friends all agree that this is reasonable. Halfway through coloring my hair, Bessie said that the groupon wouldnt cover it (it was supposed to cover up to $117 worth of coloring) and ended up charging me an additional $30. Theoretically, I paid $150 total then. She also said she charges a separate $10 to blowdry and style, which Ive never had to pay for separately in a nice salon. $150 for coloring my hair 1 color (no cut, highlights, or blowdry) plus listening to her poor attitude was DEFINITELY not worth it. I almost complained, but honestly just wanted to get out of there. I would never recommend Bessie, and I tell all my friends to stay away from the salon, at least for hair.

I made an appointment two weeks in advance if not more and when I went into the salon they told me that I had no appointment. The lady that I was talking to told me that my hair stylist would call me and reschedule (which I could not because I was leaving the country in a couple of days). My hair stylist never called me so I texted her and she did not apologize or even try to reschedule with me, I was not rude in my text or anything. I just really wanted to know what had happened with the appointment and even then she did not really explain. So I am very dissatisfied with this place and will not be going back.

These ladies have been working hard for years to give their salon just the right feel - its fun with a dash of shabby chic. I followed my talented manicurist over from another salon. She has an awesome set up for manis-pedis and waxing. Her nail art work is amazing - if I come in with an idea I leave with an amazing handful of art - from simple designs to complicated multistep processes! Stacey has the best station in town!

Im really picky about how my hair is cut, and I was suggested to go see Destiny by a good friend. She was very friendly and made it clear that she would take all the time needed to make sure I loved my haircut. She was very good at communicating about how I wanted my hair to be cut so that we were on the exact same page. I absolutely loved it and would recommend her to anybody.

I have had terrific service at this salon. I followed my hairdresser Alexis over to this salon from another and am so glad I did. She gives great cuts and color and is very accommodating with scheduling. The other professionals at this salon have always been friendly and courteous towards me from the moment you walk in the doors.
