First of all, I have gone to AVI many, many times with several different vehicles. The repair work has been spotty, sometimes problems fixed, other times WTF? The last time did it for me. I like the owner, so kept coming back because of that and the reason that it was convenient. But so many WTF moments kept building up that now, Im forced to leave this review. Id say 50% of the repairs went as planned, problem fixed. But heres some examples of what Ive endured - Took my large truck in there for some sort of service. When I get it back, the back bumper that was already slightly bent up looked now bent up differently, slight worse. When I asked about that, I was told "oh we tried to fix your bumper for you" WTF? Since when does your mechanic try to be your free body shop? Obviously someone hit it or they backed into something and tried to fix it which they couldnt. I couldnt believe it. Since its my work vehicle and didnt care much about it since it was already slightly damaged, I let it go. Took large truck in there again. Smelled like gas horribly near the back of the box. Obvious that there is a horrible gas leak near the back, and right on or near the rear mounted gas tank. Owner stands there looks at REAR gas tank and says leak is probably seal on top of tank. Great! Fix it! So I get it back and was told that they replaced my catalytic converter to the tune of $900 IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK. WTF? What does that have to do with the gas smell from the leaking seal on my REAR gas tank? I just couldnt believe it. And he defends that by saying "oh well it was broken". So I have to pay $900 for something that I didnt authorize, STILL horrible gas smell, and wasnt what I brought the truck in for. I had no time to take it back in and sold the truck shortly thereafter so they didnt have to screw it up again. I wouldnt have gone back from that, but my pickup wouldnt hardly start, and it was the closest place to get it to so I gave him one more try. I was told that the clutch master cylinder was bad with its integral ignition lock (you have to push in the clutch to start the vehicle). He tells me that it would be 3 days tops, and it takes a week. I finally had to call because they werent calling me, a many time repeat customer. I was told it was all done and fixed. I get the truck started and cant get it into reverse without horrible grinding. No matter what I do, it just wants to grind. I go back in and say "uh whats up with that?" I was told that now, even though it drove perfectly when I brought it in, now with the new component, Im going to have to double, triple, quadruple clutch it whatever I have to do to get it into reverse. WTF? I say no Fn way. Fix the car. So then they keep it like another week and he claims that he put yet another clutch master cylinder in. Same problem. You have to kill the car to get it in reverse. And actually getting it into ANY gear is hard. The warmer the car the harder it is to shift it. I was told "oh sorry, thats just the way its going to be now, thats just the way it is when you replace with new parts sometimes" WTF??? Obviously this was the last straw. It was murder driving it for the next 6 months because it was so hard to shift and me with no time to take it to actual qualified mechanics to find out what was wrong. I finally got a day off to take it to the clutch doctors where in 5 Fn minutes they told me the reason why I was having these problems was because my firewall was cracked and flexing - couldnt push the pedal down far enough to get it all the way out of gear or release enough pressure. Yes AVI had my pickup for over a week and couldnt find that problem it took CDocs 5 min to find. I was able to finally fix it myself no thanks to AVI. Sorry Hep I dont recommend your shop to anyone anymore.

AVI was recommended to me by a long-time fleet-type customer, and I think Ive found my "mechanic guy" for life in Heip. About a year ago, he couldnt find anything "wrong" (but i had been running my car without coolant, my fault) and he didnt find something to fix and charge me for, which i appreciate. I instead got an expert oil change and look-see, drive tests, pressure tests and a suddenly perfect running car for under $100 and less than a 6 hour turn around time. Recently, I called around 8:30am, dropped off at 9am, diagnostic within 45 minutes, finished car within hours. What I paid was fair, and the turn around time and trust is worth double what i paid. (Heip- this doesnt mean to raise prices!!)

Reading the other reviews, this is not the place to get your oil changed with a coupon. I wouldnt know, I havent done that. But if your car needs to be fixed, I strongly recommend AVI. Ive done three repairs with them. Each time, I felt like they were honest and reasonably priced. The owner seems interested in fixing the car, rather than just buying an expensive replacement part. One time we got a quote at the Ford dealers service department on 122nd for $500, and AVI fixed us up for less than half that. Theyre busy, but why would you want to take your car to a repair place that isnt?

I highly recommend this shop and have used them for years. Heip has always been fair with me, and very good about explaining exactly what the problem is and how the work will proceed. Its not easy to find an auto repair shop you can trust, and vehicles are infinitely more complex than they used to be. He recently worked on a difficult and intermittent problem with my truck, and I know that he spent extra time on it that I didnt pay for, in fact several times my final bill was less than I expected.

Purchased Super Saver Auto Care club/coupons. Over a month booked out so book your next appt as soon as you get one. They need your car ALL DAY for an oil change. They say this is due to the overwhelming demand from the coupons, well, get more people, cycle more customers through. Its overall a HUGE bummer. Not very flexible, communication breakdowns. Now I have a unusable sheet of coupons. PLUS they are not transferable (2nd car in household) you can only use them on one car. LAME

Great shop overall. Owner (named Hiep) is experienced, knowledgeable, and honest! This is not a low quality, quick lube place, so dont bother going if you only want fast and poor quality workmanship. It is the kind of shop that is thorough and takes enough time to do proper work efficiently. Prices are fair and honest. You really dont need a coupon to get a fair deal and the work will be done well on almost any make or model of vehicle. Very impressive!

My wife and I have found AVI automotive to be always professional and thorough. Hiep is an accomplished mechanic and when he does hire help, he is careful to only bring on the best. Disregard those whining about "coupons"... Things didnt go exactly as theyd planned and now they want to hurt the business. But, for trustworthy, thorough work on your car at a rate that is reasonable, you cant go wrong with Hiep and AVI.
