I took my car in here because of the proximity to my house. I had one bad experience there in the past which I wont get into here, but chose to give them another chance. The diagnosis of my problem turned out to be replacing some catalytic converter sections (there are multiple sections on my car). I accepted the diagnosis and it turned out to be a very expensive repair ($3500+). As soon as I left, the engine light came back on. Now they said that its a an oxygen sensor - unrelated to the previous repair. I accepted this diagnosis, but took the car elsewhere to have that work done, since I was beginning to lose trust. The other shop wouldnt work on it because they said that the error was being caused by the aftermarket parts that they used in the repair (I didnt know this was the case). The other mechanic said that it would cause other O2 sensors to go and they didnt want to get involved....so I took it back to Frick Park Auto... and they replaced the sensor for $412 (parts only). Driving out of the shop, the check engine light came on again. This time reading a different O2 sensor error (as predicted by the other mechanic). Frick Park Automotive claimed that it was a coincidence that the second sensor went. "They can go any time". It just happened to go while we were fixing the other one - really, thats what they said. When I checked on the cost to replace the sensor myself, I was a bit shocked to find that the OEM sensor actually costs around $145 retail. They charged me - parts only - $412. Hmmm.... I even called the dealer and got a quote for $262 including installation. I then checked prices on the initial repair and found the parts and repair equally inflated (around $2K from the dealer - for OEM parts!). I suppose I should have shopped around on the initial repair and I would not be in this situation (lesson learned). The car is obviously still not repaired, but I thought Id put this out there just so people know my situation here. Caveat Emptor

I have taken my car here a few times, and I think Ive finally decided not to. I have never been mistreated or cheated in any way by the garage. On the contrary, Bob always calls to tell you what is wrong, what the repair is, and how much it will cost. He is very courteous and has never added extra service to my bill without my authorization. My issue is that this garage is extremely expensive. Every time I have work done, I feel like I shouldve looked harder for a less expensive garage, but the shop is very close to my apartment which makes going there much simpler than finding another garage. However, most parts are 2x-3x more expensive than my experiences with other shops, and labor seems to be about 1.5x-2x more expensive as well. I find myself in the middle of things at work, and simply agreeing to the repairs, then spending time that evening looking up parts and repair prices elsewhere and wishing I would have done the work myself or shopped around a bit more. I will probably take my car for inspection there, but will take the car elsewhere for service. It’s just too pricey for considerable work to be done at the shop.

I drove in one day off the street and talked with Bob, a very nice mechanic. I wasnt sure if they dealt with only high-end cars or not. He told me he would gladly assist with my 1999 Honda Civic and volunteered that he has a 1995 Honda Civic. Although another garage had charged $93 just to tell me why the check engine light was on, he tested it for no charge and told me what the code was. When I asked him about getting a tune-up, he told me everything that might be involved. Today he was going to fix everything wrong with the car -- tune-up, distributor cap, rotor, distributor. When I told him I just started a job and dont get paid till the end of the month, he volunteered to scale back the scope of work to just get me back on the road, since a car is a requirement of my job. A lot of places wouldnt have done that. I appreciate that my car is running again, and as I am able to do so, Ill be back to have these guys fix the rest of the issues incrementally. It is extremely convenient also (about three blocks from my house).

STEER CLEAR! Made the mistake of taking my car there after hearing a few years ago that this place did respectable work. Took my car in to get it inspected and got a bill for thousands of dollars. Initially I was happy to pay it because I thought my car would be in better shape when I got it back. WRONG! Car made terrible noises and vibrated like crazy when I started it. The car now has a rough idle and every time you stop, car vibrates. Brought this to their attention and they said to bring it back if problems continued. Before they had worked on it, the car never made any strange noises and did not vibrate. They didnt look at when I brought this to their attention. Took my car back twice and they had no idea how to fix it. Also they kept saying they had nothing to do with the problem. They never offered an explanation or any type of refund. What a huge disappointment.

Would really prefer to put 3.5 stars but cant put that. This is an honest and reputable shop, and the owner Bob seems like a great, straight forward guy. Like some others mentioned though, it is pricey. This is an independently owned shop in the city, so that likely influences the costs, and Im happy to support them and not a chain. I felt as though I should write a review though just in case you have time to look around for a good price. Some of the parts I needed are more expensive from the shop than I have found online when looking them up later, and the labor is roughly $100 an hour which is on the higher side for an independent shop. For me it is worth it since it is a close shop, and I trust their work, but once I move from the neighborhood (which is soon), I will not likely take my vehicle there again. Overall, not a bad place though.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with these guys. If Ive ever had any issue - from an emergency to simply an inspection/oil change - they take me either same day or the next day. Their prices are reasonable, they patiently explain everything that they do and the reasoning behind it, and dont try to push you into spending money you dont need to spend. In fact, they always provide helpful tips for how to keep me from having to spend money! I usually deal with one guy in particular (his name escapes me), but he is always friendly and cheerful and accommodating! Their hours might be a little more convenient if they were open later, but being open on Saturday helps, and the location is convenient and the materials they use are good quality. I highly recommend!

A month and a half ago, I did exchange the engine oil. At that time, I had a something weird feeling about the service(The owner name may be Bob if I remember it correctly). Following the basic instinct, I did bring my car to a different Auto-Mechanics for the state inspection yesterday. They said I have to replace my engine oil since it is extremely dirty. My car just drove 1000 miles since I did exchange the engine oil at the FRICK PARK Automotive. So, I guess, this happened with one of the following reasons. 1. The FRICK PARK Automotive did not exchange my engine oil at that time and charged the service fee to me or 2. They did change it with the engine oil from their garbage oil repository 3. Or I did drive my car in a something terribly wrong way.
