Pep boys in West Chester has got to be one of the worst stores ever for management and customer service. As a frequent shopper at the store Ive had several disappointing trips but Im going to tell about our last 2 experiences. My wives battery died and left her stranded at work. Understandable batteries die, things happen. The battery was less than 1 year old. Having bought a new battery where she was stranded a replacement was unnecessary. I brought the battery in to Pep Boys, they put it on the charger for 30 minutes or so and said the battery is holding. If the battery didnt hold the charge I would be refunded. I told them the battery failed my wife once I do not want the battery. I asked the employee if they would put this battery back into their wives car? Nope. They told me too bad, I am going to have to eat it. So I went to get the core money back and was told I cant have the money for a reason I am still not certain of. While trying to clearly understand the reasoning the BOSS, as referred to by another employee, told me to "take the battery and leave." Seriously thats how its handled? So the previous experience went like this. My wife had a flat tire so I changed it and put the donut on. She went into Pep Boys to have the tire repaired/changed earlier the next morning. The manager was at the service desk, she told them she needed a tire changed. She was told they do not do that here. Pep Boys doesnt change tires? She left and went to Pep Boys in Exton where they did it free of charge. Do we really have to drive an extra 10 minutes to go to the same store? So in conclusion I will not be a frequent shopper at Pep Boys in West Chester no longer. I would advise anyone who reads this the same.

Despite what some others are saying Ive had nothing but good experiences with these guys. Granted I never needed anything really big done but theyve been responsive, going above and beyond and also have not tried to get me to do more work than necessary. Here are a couple of examples: When my car needed to be inspected the shop who offered a "great deal" on inspection (not Pep Boys) told me I needed significant work done to pass. But the problem they mentioned was one Id never had before and I just didnt trust what they were saying. I went to Pep Boys and they said I definitely did NOT need that work done, the car was within limits considered acceptable for passing. Money saved and the car gave me no trouble. On another occasion one of my tires needed to be replaced urgently the night before my family was leaving for a 6 hour drive for Thanksgiving. The guys at Pep Boys helped me locate the tires I wanted for my car (not a brand typically carried), matched a price I found online and put them on an hour before closing, offering to stay late if necessary. So my experience anyway has been totally good.

actually BdG what he said was right, if the tread on one tire compared to the rest in an AWD car it will burn up the gears in your differential. Fix a Flat also causes problems with putting plugs and patches on tires. Overall I came here to say its a pep boys, most of the people working there are still in automotive school. its like going to hair cuttery to get a hair cut, you shouldnt expect everyone there to be a master of their trade. I havent met any of the a or b techs there but they are the ones who should know there stuff. The kids who are still in school wont be very good at diag yet. If your looking for parts this pepboys does a good job of not messing up and giving you the wrong parts. I have never had any serious mishaps with this pep boys. Again dont expect master techs at pep boys. you get what you pay for thats why pep boys is always cheaper, the techs are still learning and will mess up every now and then. if any of you wanted to actually wanted the correct service for your car your suppose to take it to the dealer not pep boys

I called multiple places in West Chester to have my brakes fixed. Pep boys makes you wait through a menu (Midas and Firestone do not) to talk to a representative that seems more focused on getting you off the phone rather than helping you. They quoted me on work without even asking what type of automobile I drive. I do not like the attitude of the people working there and this was the last chance that I was giving them. How can you quote me an accurate price if you dont even bother to ask what Im driving? No detailed summary of what they would even be doing, everyone else gave me a very detailed quote on parts and labor. Does not make me feel like I can trust them at all if this is how they are before they even get my car. To be fair, his quoted price was in the ballpark of everywhere else. However, I do not want an estimate rounded to the nearest $100, I want an actual price.

DONT GO HERE! This is my second review and my second complaint about their second mistake. First time I brought my car in they didnt listen and fixed something that didnt need fixing and then charged me $800 vs $500 for a repair that wasnt needed. I kept telling them that the brakes stop working after 15 minutes of driving, well they "tinker/fix" something, go out and drive it for 5 minutes and give it a clean bill of health, but on my way home breaks stop working! Second time I go in (which I REALLY shouldnt have) I go in for a simple inspection and simple brake/drum change. Whenever I use my break they sound like "Dum, Dum, Dum, Dum...". Do NOT go to this Pepboys! No matter if its for a simple oil change.....or just asking for change for a dollar! They WILL mess up!

I brought my car to Pep Boys service center to have a flat tire repaired. The serviceman asked me if I used "Fix a Flat" to repair the tire and when I said "Yes" he told me that he could not fix it (it was a simple puncture) and that because my car was All Wheel Drive, I would need to buy FOUR NEW TIRES! Well, I may not look very smart, but Im not dumb. I told him, no thanks and had the tire repaired somewhere else. Nothing of what this guy said was true, nothing. I cant recall the last time I visited a brick and mortar operation where someone tried to pull something like this. Stay Away from this place!

Went 4 times for my Subaru for Check Engine light - the store could not figure it out. After spending about 900 dollars the issue was still unresolved and we never got a clear answer as to what the issue was. Then went to the Local Subaru Expert in Paradise ( Tims auto repair, aka Subaguru ) , and he found the problem in 30 mins - a wire from the engine was chewed off by an animal and caused the lights to go on sporadically. If you are looking for small work - tires, oil change etc it works. Anything major, you have a hit or miss since the staff seems to be inexperienced.
