We were on our way to Rehobeth when my fuel pump went up... after a great ordeal waiting for the tow truck (in 95 degrees) and a rental car to pick us up (the whole family including the dogs!) we were towed to Pep Boys in Bear, DE. They were the closest auto repair shop. To make a LONG story short- we were quoted $680.00 for the fuel pump and 3.5 hrs of labor. Mary was very nice AND professional by they way. But... unfortunately she was not there when we went to pick up the vehicle. Lee tried to tell us the total was now $800. + dollars! Thank goodness my husband is VERY mechanically inclined and knew what the repairs/parts entailed. Lee had to change the cost back to what we were quoted but not before he TOTALLY tried to take advantage of us. Im inclined to leave this review because HE KNEW he was doing it, it was so blatant. He went over the repair sheet and COULD NOT justify the difference, pretending he couldnt find the ERROR! So upsetting. HE also charged us for parts that THEIR mechanics lost! My husband and I watched them searching the bay and the trash can for a couple clips (which should have come with the new fuel pump too)!! I wish now I would have videod the search. I can not tell you how well they did the work, although my vehicle is running. Just want you, the consumer, to BEWARE! Get names, get quotes- in writing if you can. We were at their mercy, our vacation ruined, not to mention the cost of the rental and all the tolls back and forth to MD. Having auto repairs in my experience is ALWAYS a scary thing because you never know if the mechanic is trustworthy. This experience has proved that stereotype of shady mechanics. LEE you have no integrity and since you represent that store, well I hate to say that you scarred their reputation (in my eyes) and hopefully people will read this review (Im a review girl rely heavily on them) and heed my warning!

**when places have a low rating.. believe it!!*** Here is my experience... Just moved to Delaware less than a month ago..my car heat wasnt getting hot.. dont know any mechanics..so looked for a familiar name..PEPBoys..set up an appointment for 10:00 am..received an email--we look forward to seeing you. Arrived at 9:54am.. was in line until 10:07..no biggie..its Saturday.. get to the line tell my issue..was asked can I leave the car.. said not really..but I can wait a few hours.. no biggie its Saturday.. long story short.. I told the guy I had an appointment for 10 am.. he stated to me "I just gave the people in front of you the 10am and they have the same problem as you..sorry" we are short staffed".. I said thank you and left..guess ill have to stay bundled up in the car until I find a small mechanic shop... and the kicker is, Im an auto rewards member from when I lived in NJ.. **How experience could have been better""" scenario 1- PEPBoys: Can you drop the car off with us?.. ME:not really.. PEPBoys: There will be an extensive wait time, are you willing to wait? ME: sure (called setting the expectation) scenario 2- PEPBoys: Can you drop the car off with us?.. ME:not really.. PEPBoys: There will be an extensive wait time, you can wait or if you can bring it back to be looked at (insert better time here)

My experience here started out ok. I needed to have my front two tires replaced, realignment etc. I called in the morning and spoke to Ken. He told me that they had the tires in stock and it would be a pretty quick fix and to ask for him when I came in. I told him I would be there around 2:30 and so I was. I met with Ken and he told me it would be about half an hour before they could get my car into the garage but that it would be really quick once they got it in. Great. I sat down with my book. Almost TWO hours later I went to ask how much longer it was going to be because I felt like even if had taken longer than a half hour to get my car into the garage it should have been done. Juan (who continuously called me young lady though he couldnt have been more than 5 years older than me... I personally was insulted and felt it was demeaning for him to use this terminology with me) said that my car was done, had been done for quite some time in fact and they had simply forgotten to tell me. He apologized but continued to joke with colleagues instead of giving me his full attention while he was checking me out. He did give me 10% off the cost of my tires which is the reason this got 2 stars instead of 1. Regardless, I wasted a considerable amount of my time and will not be returning in the future.

My battery light came on while driving through Delaware on a return family trip to Boston from Williamsburg, VA. I pulled off I-95 and stopped at an AutoZone. They checked the codes and said it was the alternator and my battery only had 30% of life left before the car died. They recommending calling Pep Boys in Bear, De, up the road a few miles. I called them and explained my situation. They told me they could make repairs that day. I arrived a few minutes later, the rep assisting me had everything ready including the part. They confirmed the problem and started repairs immediately. I was back on the road in around two hours and drove another 6 hours home without any problems. The repair was half the price from what that local BMW service center quoted me for the exact same part and BMW couldn’t fit me in until the next day. Pep Boys saved me on the cost of the repair and from having to stay a night in a hotel. For what could have been a nightmare, Pep Boys made it a fairly brief and painless delay. Pep Boys has won me over as a customer Thanks again for saving my trip

I will never take my car to this shop again. I had a wobbly wheel. They checked and recommended replacing struts for $500. I said "no thanks". I took it to a dealership where I paid $70 for wheel balancing. A few weeks later, my car broke down on a Sunday so I had AAA tow it to this Pep Boys (hey, I was desperate). I could clearly see it was the accessory belt and the tow truck driver told me my tensioner was bad. This Pep Boys did the work for $342. The next night my car rapidly over heated and had to leave it at a different shop b/c it was close. THAT shop found a leak in the tensioner and 2 more coolant leaks. They said I should take it back to the Pep Boys that did the work. I did. Pep Boys has had my car for over a week and are claiming a different problem was an "existing condition" when they replaced my accessory belt. They want $800. No way am I paying that. Im here to warn YOU. Take your car somewhere else. Like Roccos on Kirkwood Hwy.

I have to warn people who wants to have services in this store. The MANAGER there is EXTREMELY terrible! I bought road hazard warranty for my new tires two months ago. Havent really drive much and unfortunately have a road side damage and tire cant be repaired. For this BRAND new tire. they are charging me money instead of giving me a free new tire! The manager is often very rude to people. I spend thousands of dollars in this store and this is what I end up with. No respect, no customer relationship. They will charge you as much as possible if you are not careful about the prices and charges. I wish theres a 0 star in the rating!! Really need to avoid this type of store!!!
