"Give and it shall be given unto you..., For with the same measure that ye measure it shall be measured to you again" - Luke 6:38 This quote is posted on their website, so in this spirit let me share my experience with IAM. Weve been going to IAM since moving here a year-and-a-half ago and thought that they were great but......... At the end of August 2011, one week before a trip, I took my car in for an oil change, tire rotation, alignment, and pre-trip inspection. The next day, I was called and told that new front rotors and brakes were needed to which I gave them the okay to do. The third day, I got a call informing me that they were having difficulty aligning the tires and that the car needed a new steering rack and tie rods. It was at this point that I called our trusted mechanic in our hometown, one of my husbands oldest friends. It was decided that wed wait for him to take a look at the rack and rods because this is all adding up to well over $2000. Mind you, were talking about a 2001 Outback so were obviously not "loaded". Picked up the car and paid in total over $1000. The first leg of our trip was the first time that wed driven the car on the interstate since getting it back. We noticed a new noise and feel in the front end but continued on, thinking it might be the new brakes settling in. The next day, the noise and feel were getting worse. Because we happened to be in our hometown, we called the trusted mechanic who came in on a Saturday to take a look. The lug nuts were not tightened on the wheels! After taking care of that, he put the car on the lift to take a look at the rack and rods. It was at this point that it was noted the brakes HAD NOT been worked on and the rack and rods didnt appear to need replacement. I notified IAM via email (because it was on a weekend) about the discoveries and asked that we please receive a call to address the problems. The call was received the following Tuesday and they admitted that the brake had not been done. Their "solution" was to refund HALF of the brake work and finish the job. I had a week to think over this and decided that I had lost ALL confidence in them. Upon returning from our trip, I went in to request a refund of ALL ($791+/-) the brake money to which they complied. All that was said was, "Sorry bout that" as I walked out the door. Follow up post - After my reviews, the owner called and was very apologetic. He said this was the most embarrassing and biggest mistake they had made since being in business.

I will admit that after my first experience at IAM, I was a little skeptical to take my car back (long story short - they tried to charge me to repair something that had actually been recalled by Acura, and had I not done my research, I would be out $500). But, I chose to go back there to get a replacement battery since it was convenient and the people were really nice last time. So, I got there, told them my problem (the car was taking a little too long to start and the battery was at least 4 years old). I was told a "quick" test would be done to see if it was for sure the battery. Then they would discuss costs with me. They came back and said that it was in fact the battery (shocking!), and that the "quick" test cost $60...and then the battery was $110...and dont forget installation of $30. With tax, it cost me $230 for a new battery. Ridiculous! Then, as I was waiting, my car was driven up to the door because it was ready. I look around, and no one is to be found. Where is everyone? Out in the garage chatting. FIFTEEN minutes later, someone comes back in to ring me up. These people are very nice and very knowledgable, but I will no longer be going there out of convenience. Convenience does not even cost that much!

SHAME ON YOU, SAM! $371.76! Extremely disappointed. Being new to the area, with a car in need of spark plugs being replaced, Import Auto Maintenance was on the AAA website, so we went to them. Sam said he would run the diagnostic test for $100 first. We declined and stated we were certain it was the spark plug. He said, okay, well check it out and call you. Well, Sam called and informed us to replace FOUR spark plugs and wires it would be $371.66! Really Sam?! When we questioned how it could possibly be $371.76 he stated, "well, plugs, wires, labor and OH TAX!" I asked what it would cost without replacing the pugs and he stated $250.00. I declined because I know spark plugs run anywhere between $7.00 - $14.00 per. FAST FORWARD, we called Rich at Meineke on North Gallatin Pike. Are you ready for this Sam? Well, Rich had the car for almost two hours, replaced FOUR spark plugs and... are you sitting down, Sam? $75.00!! Thank you, Rich, for being honest, trustworthy and having integrity. Sam, you ought to aspire to be more like Rich. Shame on you Sam, Shame on you!

Our family was on a road trip from Texas to the Smoky Mountains and figured out that we had a bad alternator in Nashville last week. Being from out of town and not having very many options, we took our 2006 Honda Pilot to IAM. We felt fairly confident about getting good service at first; however that quickly changed. When they called to tell us the trouble with our car, we were told our wipers were “completely shot” when we had in fact had them replaced at an oil change right before the start of our trip. They were also vague about the cost of the repair, saying it would cost “$660 plus the cost for the new battery” and when we arrived to pick up the car, this amount ended up meaning $987. For a new battery and alternator this is literally highway robbery. While they were outwardly very polite and did in fact complete the repair in a timely manner (one day), the way they went about doing business and taking advantage of an out-of-town family on vacation was disappointing.

I brought my Audi A4 in for a diagnosis since I was having vibrations in the steering wheel. I was expecting either a suspension or a tire issue even though I had already tried the usual tire balance multiple times (both spin and road force). Unlike other shops, IAM was honest and said that everything was tight; they mentioned that the issue was most likely a defective tire, which is what my theory was since the issue started after I got new tires. They didnt try to convince me to make a repair that I didnt need. Other shops said control arms, bushings, rotors (which I just had turned so that wouldnt make sense, and the vibration wasnt only during braking), and a number of other things which didnt seem to add up. I checked for loose suspension parts myself and didnt notice anything, but wanted a second (or fourth/fifth) opinion. I would definitely recommend IAM and will be going there in the future.
