I got my hair cut at Spruce salon about a week ago. Spruce has a really nice and clean environment that is modern and inviting. The people who work at Spruce are really nice, but I wish the receptionist wouldnt have pressured me to buy Aveda products so strongly after my appointment. When I came in, I had several pictures to show my stylist and I thought that we were on the same page. I wanted a long smooth bob below the shoulders that would not need styling or heat on a daily basis. I came in with my natural air dried hair so the stylist would know the texture of my hair. I am a college student and need something that is easy to keep up with. I asked the stylist to take out my split ends, but keep as much length as possible. I thought I was really polite and clear when I spoke to her, so I felt pretty comfortable. I also said that Id like to get my hair styled with waves and volume at the end of my haircut. Once the haircut was done, I realized that it was really short, far shorter than the pictures and what I had asked for. I think hair stylists have a really hard time realizing that when hair is cut wet and then dried, it shrinks significantly. Maybe they need to cut wet hair longer than what it needs to be, so it looks normal once it is styled or dried. Despite the really short hair length, the hair cut was OKAY. Not great, but okay. One thing that bothered me though, was that despite having asked for it to be styled wavy and full like in the pictures several times, she used a round brush and straightened it completely claiming that it was "playful" despite not being what I wanted. After washing my hair at home and applying some product I realized how bad the hair cut truly was. My hair is too short and the layers are too choppy so it looks like I have really messy frizz and flyways with random layers that stick straight out from my head. My mom and friends all agree that the haircut looks really "butch" and doesnt complement me at all. Now, I have to spend at least 30 minutes everyday straightening and styling my hair, just to make it look acceptable. I was really not looking to have a hair cut that required soo much effort. My hair is thick with nice body, and it usually requires very little effort but this haircut just doesnt work for me. Despite the nice environment and Aveda products Spruce has to offer, the haircut I got there is definitely not worth $60. I also do not think that I can go back for them to fix anything because the only solution would be to cut more hair off, and I definitely dont want my hair any shorter or choppier.

Weve been going to the Aveda salon on Bee Caves in the Randalls shopping center near Mopac for close to 10 years. Being consistent and loyal customers of Aveda, we were really excited that Spruce Salon, being an Aveda salon, was opening up so close to our home. The first two appointments were with ALLIE who was LOVELY. She listened to what my mother wanted and delivered. She was gentle and attentive, exactly what we have expected and received from Aveda salons all over the US and even in the UK. The third time, this August (2013) my mom was seen by LEAH, and this appointment was a TOTAL DISASTER. First, she didnt listen to what my mom wanted done. We showed pictures and talked about colors, we wanted her to do a brown-grey blending but whatever we would say, she would offer something different and push that it was better. We finally asked her politely to do what we originally wanted and she reluctantly agreed. When she was done it looked nice, but by the very next morning, all of it rinsed out in the shower. The two times Allie did this, it lasted 6 weeks before beginning to fade. Leahs job didnt even last 12 hours. As mistakes happen, we werent upset; we went back to the salon to discuss this with Leah and have it corrected. First, she was highly defensive, not admitting to doing anything wrong when the results are clearly obvious that she did not use demi-permanent dye. Second, as she was assessing the job she had done on my mothers hair, the way she was man-handling my mothers head was extremely unprofessional and very clearly expressed her negativity. My mother and I were unused to being treated this way by Aveda salon staff and were taken aback. She refused to correct her mistake herself, and instead asked another staff member to do it. Unfortunately, this one did the same thing as Leah and the dye rinsed out in two days. I stopped by at Spruce Salon a week later to discuss my unhappiness with Leahs behavior. She wouldnt even see me and her staff told me that she would call me back. When she did, she was curt and rude, and handed off the phone almost immediately to the receptionist who offered to refund us. She took my moms address while smirking on the phone. Its been 4 months and my mom hasnt gotten a check in the mail. After that incident, we refuse to go back and instead go to the Aveda Salon at Barton Creek Mall.

Seriously, one of the BEST salon experiences Ive ever had. After having (insanely) long hair for majority of my life, I finally decided to chop it all off. I arrived to my appointment completely petrified and ready to back out, but Natali was super at ease and enthusiastic about the cut and it calmed me down and helped me to feel ready :) After it was all said and done, I drove home looking at myself in the rearview mirror the entire way. I WAS SO IN LOVE. I was prepared for a haircut that didnt quite match exactly what I asked for, but one that would be acceptable. HOWEVER. What I got was the desired haircut that I showed her, to a T. I could not be more happy with it and feel so thankful that Spruce is where I ended up for a such a big decision. GO. TO. SPRUCE.

I just got home from my appointment at Spruce. A few weeks ago, I did some research online for salons in the area, and decided on Alli. However, today after getting dressed, driving over, and waiting for 20 minutes, Alli said based on the picture I brought, she wouldnt have time to do my hair today. I couldnt believe what she was saying. She said that I would need 3-4 hours and she didnt have time today; wrote down the hours she worked and sent me on my way. I am speechless. I only wanted highlights and tint to cover my gray - something Ive been doing for 10 years and which I discussed when I made my appointment. Wow.

One of my worst experiences in my life. The girls who cut her are awesome, I had no problem with my hair cut. But the color was a nightmare. I was in that salon for hours, I left with school buss yellow hair and I had painful blisters on my scalp for couple weeks. This was six months ago. Since then, I found a good board certified hair color specialist, my color looks good now, but the damage is irreversible. I have to constantly put expensive treatments in my hair as the result of what was done to me at this salon by LEAH. I WISH I NEVER STEPPED MY FOOT THERE.
