Never going to the salon again for color. I booked with their expert colorist and I asked for subtle thin dark red highlights on my dark brown hair, and to keep most of the brown. I had pictures of the cut and style of highlights I wanted. I had also discussed how I did not want bleach on my hair and would just opt for a haircut if it had to be used to get the red, but had it done there before without bleach. She showed me a few red swatches and we chose the one that would work best for what I was going for. Apparently there was a communication breakdown somewhere in there and she did use bleach, which I was unaware of until it was too late. She had done my hair many times a year back so I figured Id wait to see how it came out since she always nailed what I asked for. When she was done drying my hair, it was super splotchy, bright red, pinkish-orange everywhere, and severely damaged. Practically none of the dark hair was remaining and she didnt even show me the back with a mirror. When it came to pay, it came out to $187 when I was originally quoted $100. I went home and debated using box hair dye and thats when I realized the cut was really choppy too. I ended calling the salon and going there the next day for a redo, but she wasnt there so a different stylist helped me. She was very sympathetic and said she could only do the cut because she was so worried after examining the color, that it was too messed up for her to fix. She even took photos of the back and pointed out bleach spots that I hadnt seen yet! She did an excellent job on the cut and explained she thought it was best that her manager does the color the next day so I made an appointment. I went back again the following day and a stylist I had never had seen before told me she was doing it because the manager doesnt like doing redos unless the client absolutely insists. Disappointed, I went along with it since I had an interview coming up and couldnt wait. She told me I looked like I was going to have an anxiety attack, that its just hair, she was going to give me what I wanted, and would fix it. I guess that was her idea of trying to make me feel better. I expressed my concern that it was already damaged and she said she was was great with color. Well, it ended up looking exactly the same before I even went in the first time and there of course there was even more damage. I was relieved that all the nasty colors were gone but it still was not what I paid for. I politely asked for the salon manager and discussed this with her and all she could tell me was that it would fade. I explained the situation in full and had asked for a refund. She was not having it and made it seem like everything was my fault. It would take even longer to go into detail about everything that she felt the need to point out, to say she was rude would be an absolute understatement! I went to corporate with my complaint since I wasnt getting anywhere with her. A few days later I received a call from the general manager who was a pleasure to talk to and I was given a full refund. I had to go back to the store unfortunately to do this and the cashier who processed it apologized. I decided to check out some things and buy one of the John Frieda color glosses that had a sale sign for $9.99. The same girl that processed my refund rang me up for it and it came out to $14 plus tax. I wasnt trying to be THAT difficult customer who is never satisfied, but I very politely let her know that there was a sign for $9.99 on the product. She continued to charge my card the $14, then I waited off to the side. She went to check, grabbed the sign, threw it in the trash, and didnt say a word to me. I never make complaints, but this was the worst experience I ever had there or at a salon. They really need to work on their customer service skills. Ulta is 10 minutes from my house and Im actually thinking about making the 45 minute drive to Sephora from now on. My hair faded to a brassy copper streaked blonde mess, looks terrible and its only been a few weeks since my redo! Box-dye for me :(

I debated writing this review for a while, but decided to go ahead and warn anyone who might be thinking of getting their hair done at the salon here. My normal hairstylist was out of town and I was gifted a surprise trip by my dad and needed to get my hair touched up before I left. I called and SPECIFICALLY requested a hairstylist that had a lot of experience on my level of blonde (as you can see by my photo I HAD really healthy, long, bright blonde hair.) I even let them know on the phone I didnt mind paying a little more to make sure I had an experienced stylist - I was told: "Sure, well get you scheduled with Heather - shes our go-to blonde guru." This was late September 2016. I just asked for a touch up of my all-over highlights and even showed her pictures. She seemed disinterested and responded with "uh-huh, sure." My normal hair is a light-brown, mousy color so its not like she was trying to white-blonde highlight jet black hair or something. Even if, I asked for a stylist with blonde experience. I could tell when she spent 15-20 minutes trying to tone my hair that this wasnt going to be good. It looks like the color she applied only took to certain places and not others, and where it did take, my hair is ORANGE. Im telling you, my hair is the color of goldfish crackers. I paid almost $200 for highlights that I could have done myself at home with box-dye better. It is totally uneven and the most horrific shade of orange. I understand, sometimes stuff happens but I should not have been lied to about her level of experience. I even stressed multiple times to her that I can not have my hair turn out brassy. Now she knows her capabilities and at that point should have known to tell me that she probably wasnt the stylist for me. But no, $200 and plenty of tears later I have horrible orange, brassy hair that I cant afford to fix at the moment so I can never wear my hair down. I have to wear it up in a bun with a huge headband that covers as much of my hair as possible. I literally feel like Ulta robbed me of $200 and my beautiful hair, which now feels like straw and has fallen out due to the damage. I used to go to this Ulta for all of my makeup and whenever I needed a refill on my Thierry Mugler perfumes, but theyve put such a sour taste in my mouth after this experience I will need to look elsewhere for my beauty needs. Please beware of the salon and do not let Heather touch your hair!

Re: Ulta in Denton, Texas May 10, 2014 was Prom for Ryan High School in Denton Texas. I booked appointments for hair & makeup 3 weeks ahead of the prom. 2 weeks before the hair stylist called & said it was her brothers graduation night but she would book with an alternate stylist and text me the details. I encouraged her to alternately book us as family is always first. I told her to move us to earlier rather than later as we live so far away. However, I never heard back from her. So, on the next Saturday morning, 1 week before prom, I went into the store to confirm appointments. I was told my daughters appointment was moved to Margaret (the mgr) and confirmation would be texted to me. NO text received. I called on Wednesday, 3 days before prom, to confirm and was indeed confirmed for 3:30 with Margaret. We arrived for our appointment at 3:25. Margaret was just beginning another girls hair, the makeup artist (Bailey) was two girls deep. I asked it they were going to get to my daughter in time for us to get home and dress as we live out in the county. Margaret said "Well, we ARE under staffed". Well hells bells - no kidding. We ended up leaving. I drove right down the street to Great Clips at Oak Tree. I told the ladies there what happened and those women had a plan in place in about 15 minutes and my daughter in a chair in another 10. I ran up the street and bought makeup brushes & some products (from Walmart) and we left an hour later with my daughter looking amazing. She looked like a goddess. Id send you some pictures to see, but Ulta will never see her, or my $$, again. Ever. BTW - I spend about $200 every two months on products for my family. Say good-bye to that! You need a new manager in that beauty salon. GREAT CLIPS saved prom night , and thus Ultas bacon. You should send them a Thank You card for bailing you out... because Id be calling my lawyer on Monday morning if prom had been ruined after all Id invested in it. My new mission for the coming weeks is to cross-post this story everywhere that I can find a blog to do so. The Ulta-Denton Texas store beauty salon is terribly unprofessional.
