This review will seem long, but I promise it is not a long rambling venting spree. While doing my own homework to find a good mover, I ran across many emotional reviews. These reviews were largely useless, as they were loaded with feelings instead of facts. This review will be heavy on facts, and observations. The detail will help you recognize that this review is not fake, but an accurate step-by-step account of my experience. The start was a small 600 sq ft one bedroom apartment on the second floor moving to a three story townhouse 3 miles away. By the morning of the move, everything that could be in a box was. Delicate items like glasses were packed with lots of newspaper and bubble wrap. Victor and his three man team arrived on time and ready to work. Good sign. We discussed the loads, I pointed out the fragile items, and I started my own timer. I had designated several items that were awkward or super fragile (artwork, computers, cameras) which I moved myself. I want to note that I was concerned for my frankly over expensive Italian leather sofa. I was glad to see them lay several thick moving blankets around all of it (the moving blankets were clean – I checked), and secured the blankets in place with plastic wrap. On top of the care they exhibited manhandling the thing down the stairs, it was well protected from misshap. I was most impressed by the teams’ ability with a dolly. In one pass Mario had stacked 5 boxes full of glassware, plates and other fragile kitchen items. As the dolly was rolled down step by step, the boxes hardly made a single clink as he expertly rolled everything down two sets of stairs. Throughout the first half of the move, I never saw anyone slow down or even take a breather. This is important: when you’re paying by the hour one is keenly aware that there is more motivation for things to go slower than faster. Travel time to location was 5 miles away. Google gave an 8 minute estimate. I got there in 10 minutes. Victors’ team arrived in 21 minutes. This was predictable as the starting location was inconvenient to large vehicles, and I frankly would rather they drive slower than break something in transit just to save 10 minutes. When they arrived at the location, I showed the team four predetermined locations where all the items would go. Each box was clearly labeled to one of these four locations. Again, no time wasted, only a measured and paced effort. The move in took 1 hour. When I stopped my timer, the whole process had taken 2:47 hrs. Victor’s time was 2:45 hrs. No move is perfect; let’s talk errors and damage. The apartment I left suffered no damage from the move. The townhouse I moved into suffered minor scuffs and smudges to stairways as the team moved boxes and large items like dressers and mattresses in. Predictable, and nothing that some light cleaning didn’t solve. I opened every box that weekend to search for damage of which I found none. Nothing was broken, dented, scratched, or torn. Not so much as a single broken glass. There was only one damage event, the ceiling at a stairwell was dented at a particularly awkward corner (a box spring was particularly unyielding). The ceiling beam took two hits about the size of a quarter and a dime. It was minor, it was understandable…but damage is damage. Victor noted this damage and took pictures before he and the team left. I tipped well, out of appreciation (please tip. The job is tough enough as it is). A call to the office later that week, and I was given the information to make a claim. Making the claim took one call, two emails and one form – about 1 hour of effort give or take. A week later a repairman came to fix the dents; taking less than an hour. Overall, it was a good experience. I’ve experienced a few horror moves in the past (craigslist). This was my experience with 3 men movers, and it served as a reminder that paying a little more for professionals is worth the hours of frustration and expense of damage that some random craigslist operation yields.

Id like to start by saying that the crew that moved me was very efficient and took great care that my things were wrapped and loaded carefully and without issue. They loaded and unloaded the truck faster than Ive ever seen, and were very courteous and polite. That said, I will not be using 3 Men Movers again. At $1400 for a move from Houston to Austin, I received extremely poor customer service. First, I had to call to confirm the move date and time - they did not call me - and even though I confirmed a 7am crew arrival, the crew did not arrive until 7:45am. I was not notified by anyone that morning that the crew would be late, and I had to again call the corporate office and ask where they were. I was told theyd be about an hour late, and after strongly pressing the corporate representative for an explanation and some kind of restitution since I was paying an arm and a leg for this move, the company offered me $30. In addition to the late arrival, the crew did not check their GPS prior to departure for traffic and ended up getting stuck for another half hour at a road closure. I had to call and ensure I wouldnt be charged for that time. At the end of the move, I was kind of sick wed paid so much for the move but satisfied with the crew themselves. A few days after the move, I received an email that said "Transaction Refund for $412" and another email that said "Transaction Refund for $30". This led me to believe someone realized that the inefficiencies Id experienced were in fact worth more than $30 and they were trying to make things right. I checked in three days after receiving those refund emails to ask when I could expect the refunds to hit my account. At that time, and only that time, I was told that the $412 refund was a mistake and that Id only be receiving $30. Had I not reached out to see when Id be receiving the refunds, I would not have known I would not be receiving the $412 refund. This is a fairly large clerical error and one that should have been immediately communicated to a client. While the move itself was OK, and the movers are very professional and nice, the corporate office is a bit of a joke. Id recommend looking elsewhere for movers in the Houston area.

So far, not thrilled...First, the movers were supposed to show up last Saturday and pack my home, but they were 4 hours late due to another job that took longer than expected, so they would not have been able to pack, drive from Austin to Houston, and unpack before my storage unit closed and the elevators were shut off. So, we rescheduled for the next Friday (minus 1 star). What was good about the second crew is that they called and made contact, showed up about 10 minutes early, and worked quickly. They did a great job with shrink wrapping all the furniture. What infuriates me and why Im taking away a second star is because they took my fish mount, which are fragile as glass, and were in long boxes with red and white labels on all 4 sides that said "FRAGILE, THIS SIDE UP" and the words "Fragile as glass - Do Not Stack" written in large marker, and TOTALLY NEGLECTED that. Upon arriving at my storage unit, I found one shoved in there vertically instead of horizontally. The other two are buried within, obviously with stuff stacked on top. Like others mentioned, only the supervisor spoke English, so his two minions probably didnt understand the large, blatant labels, though the arrows points up should have been an indicator of what was supposed to happen. They did other goofy things too like stacking a table lamp on top of my antique Japanese table with mother of pearl accents. Its going to be a few months until I get into my next house and pull everything out to see the full damage, but based on what Ive seen thus far, this is going to be a nightmare and Ill probably demote this company to 2 stars. Bottom line: This company does not treat your stuff like their own as they claim. Theyre just your average, careless, moving company with unskilled workers. I wish I hadnt tipped them. I should have kept the money so I can pay for the damages.
