Absolutely wonderful! The staff at Avalon made my first time experience phenomenal. I am not the type of person to engage in blog activity, however, I want EVERYONE to know how much I love this place (Avalon)... in which I highly recommend to anyone interested in using not only the best artistic stylists, but using some of the best hair care products on the market today. Here is my story on how I stumbled upon this amazing company. I hope after reading this post, you will call them right away to schedule an appointment. I have been looking for a stylist for the past four months. My original stylist, who I will not name in this post decided to close her shop without notifying anyone. So it left me in a predicament. You see, I teach for a living and my schedule is full with time constraints in which prevents me from doing basic research to find a replacement stylist. So at that point, I did what most people would do and that is ask their co-workers for referrals. One of my colleagues gave me a number to hair stylist that she recommended. I was excited at that time, but my excitement was replaced with blunder as soon as I made the call. Long story short, not only was she rude, but told me that she was unable to schedule me until two months out. So I just said forget it!. Now on to a positive note... One Saturday morning while drinking some coffee, I decided to do some research to find the top salons in San Antonio. I live in the outskirts of San Antonio and do not travel to the city often, but at this point, what choice did I have right? Anyway, back to my research... Google posted the top best salons in San Antonio based on customer ratings. I saw Avalon at the top of the list. After reading some of the reviews, I decided to give them a shot and schedule an appointment with them. Once I made the decision to do so, is when all the magic started to happen. I dont mean to sound corny, but once you have an experience with them will make you so excited that you will be posting some positive corny material as well. Sorry for the tangents... now back to the review... When I called, a gentleman answered the phone and greeted me with a warm and kind tone. After exchanging pleasantries, he made it easy for me to get the stylist I requested (Tina). Once I got there the receptionist greeted me. She was extremely friendly and welcoming. At that point, I can see the professional, yet fun-loving atmosphere this salon was all about. Now, I do not want to get into details with how my hair was done, but all I have to say is my stylist (Tina) did a PERFECT job highlighting and cutting my hair. Tinas skill set was among the best I have ever seen and that she has so much experience with all hair types. From an interpersonal side. Tina was gentle and sooooo NICE. She fully transformed my hair and fully passed my HIGH EXPECTATIONS with EASE. The products are second to none as well. What I like is that they do not try to over sell you on products. They just make awesome recommendations on which products to use. My stylist (Tina) without a shadow of a doubt, did a wonderful job on my hair and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TINA to ANYONE. In closing, I can see why they are consistently ranked among the elite salons in San Antonio and I will make the 45 minute drive to their salon when I need my hair done. Again, I highly recommend Avalon Hair Designs! Ask for Tina! if she is not available, I know all the stylist employed by Avalon have the ability to do great hair! So if you are looking for the BEST, look no further and call AVALON HAIR DESIGNS TODAY!

I will never go back to this place ever... They absolutely ruined my hair.... The staff is very nice and the surrounding is very clean and very professional but I went in to get a simple cut... and I told the stylist this is my first time being in a real salon since I was 8, I am 23 now. And that my only experiences have been with the military salons... I stressed to her how important it was that I kept the length on my hair... I know I said it at least five times... I told her I just want my layers cleaned up and my bangs trimmed.... The first thing that made me question was she part my hair in the middle when my hair naturally parts in the side... I thought it was weird but didnt question it because, hey she might know something I dont.... So we get done and she asks if I wanted a blowout... I told her no,because I thought that meant she wanted to style it... no one ever in a military salon asked if I wanted one so I thought it was unnecessary... So I get home and my hair dries and I realize my cut is uneven... the layers on the left side of my head are longer than the right... on top of that she cut approximately 5 inches off my hair... I was livid.. so I called them and told them that this is hands down the worst haircut Ive ever had... they offered to fix it but I told them I would never go back there... They even tried to justify it by saying that thr stylist asked if I wanted a blowout, in which I replied that I thought that meant style, and that she as the stylist made the assumption that I knew it meant my hair would be potentially lopsided. I told them I didnt go to cosmetology school for a year and I didnt know it was necessary, and that the stylist failed to inform me that blowouts are for "finishing touches"... Also my "layers" it looks like a mullet that grew out some... I have nice bangs Ill give them that.. but the top portion of my hair looks like a bowl cut and on the bottom its just longer... Its horrible.. I can only wear my hair in a ponytail... They might be good at coloring and hair treatments... but for actual hair cuts... its atrocious. They get 1 star because.. the staff is professional.. the salon is clean, and after a lot of bickering I got a full refund.. But I will never go back there and I would never recommend this to anyone... Their words, I got one of the "best" stylist, that had been licensed for 15 years..she did a foul job.

I visited this salon to receive a Brazilian Blowout. I should mention that I have received Brazilian Blowouts before so I know how the procedure is and how my hair feels afterwards. First off, the stylist complained before even starting the process about her eyes possibly watering from the product (which I totally understand, but she mentioned it numerous times during the treatment). Second, I noticed she wasnt fully coating my strands the way others have in the past. I noticed she was completely missing my baby hairs in the front of my hairline so I mentioned to her to not forget them. She said that she didnt want to put too much product in my hair which again, I do understand is possible but she wasnt putting enough product in my hair to begin with in my opinion. She coated them in a sort of half-assed way after that. And I decided to not mention it again and to just trust her judgment. (Maybe I didnt need as much product as I had in the past I thought to myself) When it was all finished I noticed that my hair didnt quite feel the same way as it has in the past after getting a Brazilian Blowout. But instead of saying anything, I decided to not mention anything until after I went home and washed my hair for the first time in case maybe I was wrong. I was also surprised and disappointed at the fact that they did not sell Brazilian Blowout products at the salon as I had to go to a different salon to buy the shampoo and hair mask. Well I have have now officially washed my hair and it is just not the same as I have always had my hair feel and look after a Brazilian. I can tell what hair strands or sections she missed because they have my normal hairs texture which is wavy and dry. She didnt fully coat my baby hairs and shorts pieces in the front as well as the back of my head/hair towards my neck, closer to my scalp. Considering how upscale this salon is and how expensive this treatment is, I expect the stylist to do the job correctly. I have since emailed the owner describing my experience, but have not yet received a reply.
