Very disappointed with this company! First of all when scheduling the move I was told that someone would call me when the crew had left San Antonio on their way to Devine. I was expecting a call around 8:00 am for a scheduled arrival of 9:00 AM. I did not receive the call until 9:00 am and was told they would be arriving at anytime ( they were already here). Due to the fact that I was expecting a call when the crew left San Antonio and not upon their arrival, I was not dressed or ready. This put us running behind immediately. Upon arrival at my storage unit, I was told I had a one time travel charge of $180.00 (Devine is approximate 30 miles south of San Antonio - seems a little high). This charge was not mentioned at the time of scheduling. At the time of scheduling I was told $85.00 per hour and that it would take approximately 2 hours but at the most 3 hours. I arrived at the storage unit as quickly as possible - about 9:15 AM. The two men who were sent were very slow moving and it took another 15 minutes just to do the paperwork so they did not get started until 9:30 AM. At this time I was told that it would be no more than 45 minutes to one hour to load the storage unit. This estimate was given to me at the storage unit upon the crews inspection of my property. It was however 11:45 AM before the crew had the truck loaded (2 hours and fifteen minutes to do a 45 minute job). Both men moved extremely slowly and carried one box at a time rather than using dollies etc. It felt like they were trying to take as much time as possible!!!! It was at this point that I let the crew know that I was going to have to leave in approximately one hour. I had relied on their time schedule and I had an appointment that I could not miss. At this point I left a neighbor in charge and told the movers where the furniture was to go (what rooms etc.). Basically the instructions were that the couch, chair, and two tables go in living room, china cabinet, dining table and four chairs in the dining room, and everything else in the extra bedroom. Other than these pieces of furniture, it was just basically boxes. I didnt even have a bedroom to move. NOT TOO HARD TO UNDERSTAND AND NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. However when I arrived back at my apartment, everything was put in the living room. The whole reason for hiring a moving company was because I am handicapped and disabled. I am not able to move the furniture myself and I paid this moving company $380.00 to move me. However, since they failed to do it correctly, I had to hire more people to come in and move the furniture AGAIN at an additional charge of $200.00. I am on disability and on a very very very limited income. This company cost me my entire savings. Then to top it all off when I called the company to complain, I spoke to Loraine and I was treated with complete disrespect and IGNORANCE. I argued with her on the phone for a good 10 to 15 minutes before I finally told her that I wasnt going to argue with her any longer. I didnt deserve to be treated this way. I was the customer and I was not at all happy with the services and I should be treated with at least common courtesy and politeness. Instead all I got from her was disrespect and rudeness. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MY WORST ENEMY!. I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED AND FELT LIKE I WAS OVERCHARGED FOR A HORRIBLE JOB!!!!!

DO NOT USE ½ PRICE MOVERS. That is my recommendation. If you do choose to use them, you need to be prepared. Be sure to have a detailed checklist of your belongings. Follow the moving truck to ensure they arrive at the destination. Follow the items removed from the truck, into the destination. It is impossible to be in two places at once. Have someone you trust help you out. Double check the checklist before you sign off on the move. I ended up with many, many items missing. I called and emailed ½ Price Movers about this. I was told the employees that made the move no longer worked there and “you signed off on the move”. The police, the insurance company and an attorney will all tell you the same thing: if you sign off on a move and items are missing, the burden of proof is on you. I asked ½ Price Movers for an investigation several times. I have waited and waited and nothing has happened. So, buyer beware – protect yourself. Follow all of the suggestions outlined above for your move. If you choose not to do this, then my recommendation is DO NOT USE 1/2 PRICE MOVERS.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY if I could give it less than one star I would. The management staff is extremely unprofessional. There was numerous discrepancies with the show times and quotes. However that can be chalked up to miscommunication. What can not be forgiven, the movers removed my 13 y/o daughters Urn (whom had passed away the year before) from a dresser and placed it on the floor. When the manager called me, he was extremely rude and lacked any sort of common courtesy or empathy. His excuse was they probably didnt know what it was. When I explained it was clearly marked his next excuse was, it was another company. Through out the call he remained argumentative and just would not listen to my concerns and even questioned why I was upset and went on to state I had no right to be. I finally hung up on him. He simply just did not get the absolute lack of respect his people displayed by placing my daughter on the floor. I am filing complaints with the Military Housing Office at Lackland AFB and Ft Sam Houston and will also plan to seek legal advice as well.

A year before hiring Half Priced movers, I rented a truck and moved myself into a rental house while I saved money to buy. My girlfriend and I were able to load/unload the truck in about 6 hours and moved everything in one load. We even saved the boxes so we could use the same ones to pack the following year. When I bought my house, I hired half-price movers, who sent someone out to do an estimate. When the move occured, it took three movers about 8 hours and cost 40% above the estimate. Worse than that, they left a tremendous amount of my effects at the last house claiming it wouldnt fit in the truck and wasnt in the contract, which they blamed on the guy they sent to do the estimate. I offered to send them pictures of the items and show them where these items were listed in the contract and never heard back. Ultimately, I had to rent a truck the next day and complete my own move. I sincerely wouldnt consider hiring Half-Price movers for anything larger than an efficiency apartment move and at that I would have reservations.

I have used Half Price Movers 3 different times, many years apart. I moved 11 years ago and had a lot of medical equipment that was very fragile among my entire house. A few years after that we moved my grandfather. Two weeks ago we moved my parents, who has a lot of antique furniture, antique china, and lots of fragile items. Each time the workers were on time, if not a little early, extremely careful with everything, and most of all, these men were so courteous to me, my grandfather, and my parents. They went above and beyond to make sure nothing got broken, wrapping all the furniture so nothing would even have the smallest mark on it. My parents are retired military and this was their 22nd move. They told the men they have never experienced such friendly, courteous, and careful movers in all the moves they have had. I have recommended Half Price Movers to everyone who is need of a moving company.
