Tax Day, April 18th, 2016. Imagine that you want to mail your return and get it post-marked on the day you mailed it. Imagine that you try to mail it on the 18th. Now imagine that Ace Hardwares USPS rep turns you away and that the official post office cant explain whether that was right or wrong. This happened to me today. I walked into Ace Hardware on Louetta/Grant at 3:10 PM to mail my return. The store had neon orange signs posted everywhere warning people that mail had already been picked up. Fine. I get to the clerk, a 60-something woman sitting looking bored, and I said that I would like to mail my tax return. She explained that mail had already been picked up. I said that this wasnt a problem, I just wanted my envelope to be post marked and sent. She said that she couldnt post-mark it because mail had already been picked up. Now lets pause for a moment. WTF? Anyway, I decided that I didnt trust my important tax return documents in the hands of Aces USPS operation. So I asked where the nearest USPS office is, and she said that she did not know and that I would have to call a toll-free number to get that information. Lets pause again... Really? Did she really not know where the nearest post office locations are, or was she deliberately being unhelpful? I then drove to the Klein/Spring post office, and Im glad I did because Willowbrook, I later learned, had not power after a stormy morning. I am waiting in line and a woman in USPS clothes is walking the line asking if anyone needs help/advice. So I told her about what happened at Ace Hardware. She quipped: "Every place has its own policy." Huh? What the heck does that mean? I asked her directly if the Ace Hardware USPS clerk could have postmarked my letter today and she responded: "Sir, I dont know, thats up to them." I quickly decided she did not know much. I finally get to an official USPS clerk and Im paying for the mail after adding certified mail/tracking. The previous woman comes to my side and says to me: "Did you ask her [the clerk] your question?" I said no, and then after realizing no one else was in line, asked the clerk my question. I asked: "Should the Ace Hardware post office have postmarked my IRS return envelope today even though mail had already been picked up?" She said "Sir, if it already was picked up then it wouldnt go out today." I said "I realize that, what Im asking is if they should have postmarked it with todays date even though mail had already been picked up..." She said "Sir, if you wanted your mail to go out today you should have gotten there before the pick-up time." I said "Lets forget about when the mail goes out--Im talking about the post mark only." She said "Oh, okay. Now whats your question?" I said ""Should the Ace Hardware post office have postmarked my IRS return envelope today even though mail had already been picked up?" She said "If they were already closed then why would they post-mark your envelope with todays date?" I said "Who said anything about closing?" She said "Oh, you mean theyre still open?" I said "Yes." She said "Then why would you want your envelope to be postmarked for the next day?" I said "I dont--I wanted it post-marked for the same day. " She said "Thats their decision." I said "Whats their decision?" She said "As to whether they are going to accept your envelope." I said "What are you talking about? Youre telling me that they would refuse my envelope?" She said "No, Im telling you that you missed the pick up time and theyre not responsible for that." At that point I felt like I was in some sort of weird hidden camera show. Sadly, I was not. What I was, however, is experiencing the utter stupidity, ineptitude, and sheer sad reality that is so common out there. It is depressing. And it is stories like this that make it rather clear that the USPS is simply not nimble, not smart, and that theyre no match for private enterprises such as FedEx and UPS. While there are some EXCELLENT workers and truly intelligent people at the USPS, there sadly is so much incompetence.

Too many problems to list. Problems start at the top. Starting pay at 20.00+ for no experience? Staff has NO accountability. NO responsibility. Negative work ethic. Work Productivity? People are apparently hired by race and not by qualifications. Latest problem in a long list: tracking package shows "out for delivery", then "not delivered due to box being blocked", but I received my other mail in the box? My surveillance camera shows mail being delivered and the box was never blocked. Went to the post office the next day to pick up my package. I was the only one in line, waited 30 min. for someone to come to the door. Another 20 min. looking and could not find it or explain why. They said a supervisor would look for my package and call me back. Never got a call. After two days I returned early in the morning, no one in line again. Supervisor comes to the door, hears my story, shakes their head and states they are not surprised. Tells me that he/she will try and find out what happened to my package and call me back. They called back 5 hours later and said it is no where to be found at that facility. He/she said most probably was pitched into the trash. They further sated that this was probably one of the worst post offices they had worked at in his 28 year career. They said employees are lazy and irresponsible and that manager was to blame. It is a Federal Offense for anyone to tamper with the mail. Where is their accountability? I give them ZERO STARS, and thats being KIND!

As a new business in this area it was extremely disappointing to get the lack of service we received each and every time we have needed anything from this office for example our regular mail delivery, they refused to send their driver to our business as we do not have a mailbox...which in 2 years working for my company we have always had our mail person bring in the mail because we are a business so I asked to speak to the supervisor who agreed with me that as a business we shouldnt be required to have a mailbox and had our mailed delivered that day. By the way none of the other businesses on our route have a mailbox either (we confirmed this to see if this request to put a mailbox out was accurate). Well now its been 2 weeks and again no mail person has come by so I called today and after being on hold for a manager for over 10 minutes, Nell the representative I had the luxury of speaking with last time that demanded we have a mailbox is at it again telling me that the supervisor I spoke with was wrong and that she will have someone call me about this issue but when I asked who and when she literally told me "myself or the station manager, it will probably be her and I dont know when" just completely unprofessional service from this location!!! Then when I asked for a corporate number she gave me the phone number to another post office near by which was just even more of an example of bad customer service! If I had the option we would just use UPS or ANY OTHER MAIL SERVICE!
