I was recently rear ended by a old gentleman that hit me while he was on his cell phone, while I was at a red light. He dented and scratched up my bumper pretty good. The old Gentleman really didnt want me to go through his insurance because I supposed he didnt want to lose his license and have his premiums rise. I being the nice person that I am, went and got bids at three places to let him know how much it would cost. Those bids were in the range of 700-850 dollars at every place I went. The gentleman that hit me told me that those prices were too high and that he was a car dealer in his time and takes all his cars to Bruce....at Maaco and that he will do a great job for me. So I agreed to take the twenty minute drive down to Maaco to have my car looked at. When I met Bruce I did not tell him who I was because I wanted an honest estimate, but he knew exactly who I was. He goes outside to give me an estimate and looks at my bumper from about 10 feet way for about two seconds and goes back inside. (no exaggeration) He then starts to mock my three year old Toyota Camry saying that they dont make them like they used to, (like the old American Muscle cars). He of course thought that my Camry was an Accord because he inspected it for so long... He then low balls me a bid for 375 dollars and says that he will just paint over my bumper and not even remove it. He also said that the repair time would be an hour to cover the dents and scrapes. I then proceed to ask him about warranties and if he offers them in case of paint chipping. He says that I should just buff out my car myself because I will just be rear ended again soon and I should just take the 375 dollars and not have it repaired. He also told me that any time a car is repainted it will never be as good as the original job. Then later when I talked to the older Gentleman that hit me to figure out how to go about insurance or paying for my car. I tell him that I will never go to Maaco with how I was treated. He then told me that the guy said that I was a jerk and should just deal with my dented up bumper. I honestly was really nice while I was there and just want my bumper repaired because I was hit from behind while sitting at a red light....is that so much to ask???? I never ever write any reviews but just wanted people out there to know that this is how I was treated at this shop. I cant say for other Maacos out there but in my opinion Bruce was not an honest person and I would never take my cars there at any price. Any company that doesnt take pride in their work and want to do an honest job for ANYONE that comes in should not be in business. Please stay away from this place.

[edit 6-14-10] I realize its been about a year since the initial review, but I never updated it, so here it is. After I took the car in again, they decided to repaint the whole thing. After another week without my car, I got it back and it looked MUCH better. However, after a couple of days a couple of spots on the edges of the hood began to chip, now I have spots on my hood where the paint has chipped off completely near where the hood meets the front fenders. Also and the right front fender the paint randomly had a spiderweb like crack a couple months after the second paint job (it showed up a couple of days after lightly tapping a plastic garbage can on that side) [edit 6-24-09 changed to 3 star pending further repair results] I took the car back the monday after the repairs and pointed out everything that I had noticed and they were very understanding and asked that I make a list of everything and bring the car back and they would fix it all for me. Ill be getting it back tomorrow and will report again. [original review - 1 star] I asked Maaco in Orem to adjust my bumper so that it fit in place a little better, remove an aftermarket hood scoop that was coming off and to paint my car. After a week in the shop (mon - fri) I got the car back and it all looked good, until I got it home and actually looked at it. The lines where the hood scoop previously was are still clearly visible, as well as where they bondoed in a couple of small holes from where the hood scoop had been screwed on. There are several small cracks in the paint and a few portions where it almost looks scratched. As well as having several portions where they just did not bother to paint at all. These portions seem to be everywhere they could have figured "oh, he might not notice..." like portions of the rear bumper that arent immediately visible unless you open the trunk but then are glaringly obvious. As well as the entire bottom of the front bumber and the wells for the fog lights, etc. Oh, and get this, the fog light wiring was hanging down below my car and is now painted nice and red like the rest of my car. Also, I paid $100 for them to remove and replace the bumper so that it fit better, and it looks exactly like it did before... I do not think they actually did anything there... Oh, and there are paint drips as well. I know this is a Maaco paint job, but seriously? I am going to take it back on Monday and see what can be done. Then maybe I will come back and edit this review. (and apparently google does not like to have apostrophes, I had to edit them all out so the post was not full of dont and Ill etc.)

Dealing with this auto body shop is hands down the worst experience I have had. I got some minor damage on my 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix (pronounced P-R-E-E). The damage was on the front right quarter panel. Some dumb college kid backed into my car at Reams while I was buying new carrhart coveralls for my girlfriend at the time (Julia). Anyway, I took my Grand Prix (pronounced P-R-E-E) to this Maaco. I dealt with a gentleman named, Bruce. He seemed to be annoyed by me coming to his business. I stood at his counter while he fiddled with his electronic typewriter. I thought he was writing an important computer letter or consolidating his debt management spreadsheet. I peeked at his computer screen & saw he was just playing the solitaires. I was bothered that he would make me wait while he moves cards into rows segregated by colors. Finally I asked if he could help me. He peered at me, obviously annoyed and told me he would be with me in a minute. Eventually the solitaires won and Bruce decided to acknowledge my presence. Bruce gave me a quote on my Grand Prix (pronounced P-R-E-E) he also gave me a time frame of completion. I thought things were going well at this point; boy was I wrong. I returned to the store on the day I was instructed & was told they hadnt even started on my car. Obviously this was disappointing and frustrating. I was polite and asked when to expect it to be completed. I was then instructed that it would take another 4 days. I was disappointed; however, I politely told them I will be there in 4 days to pick up my Grand Prix (pronounced P-R-E-E). I returned 4 days later as instructed only to find out they painted the car the wrong color. I was very upset and when I spoke with Bruce he admitted to me they had messed up the color; however, he told me I would have to pay for it to be repainted. At this point I realized I should have seen this coming with his epic failure at the solitaires during my initial visit. Obviously he struggles with colors. I took my car to another auto body shop to fix the mistakes. Needless to say this was a very expensive mistake that I had to pay for.
