Our 12 yr old heat pump reversing valve quit working of course during the coldest time in the winter. We originally had another company out to work on it but after a week and multiple "problems needing more money", we decided to get another opinion from an actual certified Trane company since that is what we had (our air handler was 24 yrs old). The technician came out and did confirm it was the reversing valve and gave us a cost estimate to fix it. He was very professional and I felt I trusted what he was saying compared to the other company. We had already talked about getting estimates to replacing the system and had other estimates but not for a Trane system. SSI was able to get Chris (Bacon) out to us the same day to look at our system and take measurements. I was very impressed on how much time he took looking at the system (the other companies quickly looked) and then explaining each system he recommended. He wasnt pushy in us making decision and was very personable (the other companies were either pushy or had a bad attitude treating me like the "dumb wife"). He even gave us brochures for us to read through about the different systems. It was awesome. We got the proposal two days later and we loved how detailed he was explaining everything that was included or not included (way better than the quick carbon copy we got from other companies). We didnt hesitate to go with SSI at that point. The cost was comparable, maybe a bit more expensive but it was for a Trane system. Plus, we are willing to pay more to go with a company who knows what they are talking about. We exchanged several texts and emails with Bacon and he always responded quickly and was friendly and professional through it all. Put our worries at ease. We ended up picking the upgraded system with all the bells and whistles. They gave us a great deal and with the Dominion Rebate it was prefect. He even worked with us on signing get proposal since we were without a printer on a cruise at the time. He got all the parts ordered to be installed for when we got back. We couldnt be more happier with the time and effort Bacon gave us. The installers showed up right at 7:30am. They answered all my questions through out the day. I was a bit worried at the point they were installing the heat pump outside since it is a bad erosion area. All it took was a quick text to Bacon, he called me shortly after and said they were sending someone with gravel to fix it and for us not to worry. How awesome is that! They finished shortly before 4pm. I felt bad because I did have to rush the head installer in explaining things since company had just arrived and I had to get my daughter off the bus. But he assured me (and Bacon did too) to not hesitate to give them a call if we have any questions. We are still learning how to use the thermostat (its like a small iPad on the wall) and get it to our preferred adjustments. We couldnt be more happier with the system. My husband was so thrilled to actually feel air coming out of the vents. I do feel the difference with the humidifier and no longer fell like my skin is about to crack and break. So with my long winded review....I cant express enough how great this experience was in buying a new HVAC system. Bacon, youre awesome and keep up the great work in making your customers feel worry free with such a big decision!!! We will continue using them for our maintenance service after our year is over. Once you find those trust worthy companies...you dont want to loose them. Thanks, SSI!!!!

My wife and I needed to replace our HVAC system this past winter (dual units - upstairs and downstairs). We shopped around, did research and had three companies come out and provide estimates. In the end we settled on Service Specialties Inc. (SSI). Their professionalism, customer service and quality were first rate. The person who came out to give us the estimate is named Chris "Bacon" Charbonneau (and yes, you do call him "Bacon"). Of the three companies, he was absolutely the most thorough and complete in doing the measuring and analysis. Their prices were the best initially (the other two companies did lower their initial offer in an effort to try to beat them but then Bacon matched their best offer). They showed up the scheduled day to install with two teams of two installers each (one team for each unit) and were completed on time as promised. The four gents who did the installations were courteous, professional and had a trustworthy demeanor about them. The units worked (and are working) flawlessly. An example of their customer service: we did notice a small humming sound in the upstairs unit. I called Bacon and he came out the same day, listened to it and said, yes, that is something they needed to deal with. Shortly thereafter two technicians came out and diagnosed the issue (transformer against an internal component that was a manufacturer [Trane] issue, not the SSI installers). They remedied the issue of the hum without a hitch and all is good. We just had a technician out who did the seasonal inspection which was part of the "Performance Plus" maintenance agreement we had included in our package. If you are undecided on your preference for make (Trane, Lennox, Carrier) I can honestly say we have had no regrets with our XL15i Trane Heat Pumps - in fact, it was the Carrier guy who told me if he were putting in a unit he would use the Trane XL15i (and he only installed Carrier). This past winter (and you remember how cold it was) we noticed much better heat in the house and recently, when it was so hot outside, the cold air from the AC was so much better than our old units. You won’t find a better service oriented company than SSI. I can see why the word "service" is in their name.

Three HVAC reps came to my home to give me an estimate on the cost of replacing the 24 year old compressor in my yard....plus....whatever else I needed to be done so that our home would be nice and cool for the summer. I gave the job to SSI (Service Specialties Inc) for the following reasons: Chris came to our home with a laptop and a printer. When he was through educating me, he printed out the estimate and gave it to me. I was very impressed since my other estimates were done on a clip board and I was given a carbon copy which I could not read. Chris spend two hours with me explaining everything from the compressor in the back yard to the A-coil atop the furnace. He showed me where I needed to replace the old sheet metal on top of the furnace because it was not the right size-- and that resulted in less air flow through the system. He also suggested that I replace my Hunter thermostat/control with one by Trane since Hunter has a good reputation for fans, but not necessarily for thermostats. I can see the resulting difference. My new one works perfectly. The old one was not accurate and that resulted in a constant adjustment of the temperature. Unlike one of the other estimators who asked me how much SEER I "wanted," Chris told me how much SEER I needed! If you are interested in getting a new A/C system, I suggest you phone SSI (Service Specialties, Inc.) Mort Fineberg, Springfield, Virginia
