My family has been using Virginia Tire & Auto for more than 15 years. Weve had a few issues within that time frame but weve mostly received good service for state inspections, oil changes, and new tires/rotation. Recently, I took my vehicle there for a "check engine light" issue. I had taken it to an Autozone and they ran the diagnostic for free. I knew that both O2 sensors needed swapped, Virginia Tire & Auto were adamant that they needed to run their own diagnostic. They also charge $100+ for this service. Okay, I fervently believe that repair companies should offer free diagnostics. I mean, cmon! I am going to pay you ridiculously well to DO the repair. Why are you tacking on additional money just to diagnose the problem? But thats beside the point, they ran the diagnostic and found that both O2 sensors needed replacement. For this service, Virginia Tire & Auto quoted $1200! I couldnt believe something so simple would cost so much. I did some research online and found that the parts were around $300. Virginia Tire & Auto told me that those are generic parts, the cost difference is because these are OEM. So I called the Volkswagen dealership in Fairfax, Virginia and asked them how much the parts would cost. They were still $350 cheaper than the quote I received from Virginia Tire & Auto. I brought all of this information to the shop and told them they were charging way too much and that I wouldnt pay for the diagnostic because I thought they wouldnt have such a large up-charge. The manager was actually very nice and dropped the charge. He told me that the parts are like bread in the grocery store, each store is going to charge additional money to increase profits. I completely disagree with this line of thinking. I was already agreeable to a $150 service charge and $114 diagnostic fee, and you wanted to charge extra on the parts... I would just caution everyone to do their research before agreeing on service here.

Ive used their services a few times. Once in an emergency situation to jump a battery. They did well there. But last year I bought an Interstate battery from them for my Acura TL. That went fine until the 3rd time the battery needed to be jump started again less than a year from the purchase of this 60-month warrantied battery. I drove the car to VA T&A. They tested the battery and said it showed in the normal range, so there was nothing they could do per the Interstate warranty. The manager advised me to call them the next time it the battery does not start the car, and they will come out to my car. At that point, they could see the battery is defective and bring me a replacement. Last weekend (about a year into the ownership of this battery), the battery drained again and the car would not start. I called VA T&A. They were nice, but did not call as they said they would. I called again, the manager was still there and said hed stop by after he left work. He did. He witnessed the battery was drained. I told him what the last manager promised to do. (Of course, this promise was not in my service record. I saw him write it, but maybe he didnt save it or he deleted it.) This new manager tested the battery, which was barely in the normal range. I repeated the words of the manager from the previous manager. He said the bluetooth units and the AC units in Acura TLs have a tendency to drain the batteries. We jumpstarted the car and took it over to VA T&A so they could test the system to discover if anything was draining the battery unusually at the cost of $109. Nothing was wrong with our system, but they happily charged us for that recommended service and sent us away with the still defective battery. Not ever using the services of VA T&A again. Not ever buying an Interstate battery again.

Have been a customer at this location for 3 years, and typically experienced courtesy from the employees and quality service, but the past two visits have been terrible experiences. When my check engine light went on a while ago, I asked one of the front desk employees if the mechanics would be able to scan my vehicle to determine the issue, as well as how long/how much it would be. He told me that they would have to run a "full diagnostic" on the vehicle to determine the cause of the light being illuminated, which would run me $110. I knew better than to fall for that and had it done at Advance Auto for free. Today, when my car was due for an oil change, the front desk employee, Renato, came to give me the report on my vehicle and told me that there was a "major leak" that required a steam cleaning for the mechanics to determine the source of the leakage before they could fix it. He told me they werent sure what kind of leak it was, and then later said, "oh, its definitely oil." He also said my car battery was scanned and failed the test, and that replacing the battery was necessary. I was then given a slip of paper with the supposed "maximum risk" battery reading...the only problem was, it was time stamped with the time of 2:33pm. I didnt even bring my car in today until 3:50pm. The fact that the employees here tried to fleece me by giving me falsified documentation is SO dishonest and extremely disappointing. Its not okay to fulfill the stereotype and take advantage of women because they might not know as much about cars. Today was the last straw, you have lost my business with your shady practices.

This used to be my spot. Had been coming here since I bought my first car. Never again. My boyfriend took his car in for inspection and an oil change last month, they told him he should replace his tires by winter, we come to pick it up pull out of the parking spot, and the tire is completely FLAT. If we had driven it out of the spot we would be driving on and damaging the rim. Then we were told there was in fact a rip but we were passed anyways. We later learned that wasnt true. They told us they would patch it for 32.00 which wasnt happening. We took it in without and air missing and our tire pressure indicator was not on. So the owner got into a big telling match with my boyfriend and father who came to help. We are informed by someone else that there was nothing wrong with any of the tires when it was inspected. We never got an answer as to what actually happened but I am assuming they simply ran over something in the shop when they were pulling it in or pulling it back out and it wouldnt have been a big deal if someone had told us that from the beginning. Will be taking my business and my familys and friends elsewhere.

Rip off, plain and simple. Its a nice facility with courteous staff and great amenities (i.e. updated interior, nice waiting room, shuttle service, complimentary coffee), but dont be fooled. I went in with a check engine light issue which was diagnosed as a sensor problem. I was quoted at nearly $1,000 for parts and labor. The technician sensed my apprehension over the price and came back taking $100 off and provided the explanation that the part was extremely expensive and that the area of the car to be disassembled was rusty and that screws would have to be destroyed and replaced in the process. I consulted with my brothers friend whos a mechanic in northern VA and he quoted the job to be around $600. I contacted Midas in Chantilly and they confirmed that they would charge $600 as well. Needless to say I refused the service at Virginia Tire and Auto and took the car to Midas. Midas fixed the car for $500 and also said that they did not find any "rusty screws" that required additional time, parts, and effort to remove. I will not be returning to Virginia Tire and Auto South Riding again. I do not trust them.
