Im a frequent customer of AK Auto services. I wasnt planning on writing a review until I saw the very last review on the page, and I feel that I owe it to the guys at AK Auto to put in a good review for all the caring and professional service theyve given me. Im a new driver, and I drive an 8 year old Suzuki Forenza S that has been in pretty bad shape due to my less than careful treatment. My car was suffering from coolant leaks and some serious engine oil leaks. A normal repair for that would involved replacing the engine gasket, engine cover and coolant pipe using vendor parts, which together with service would cost somewhere around USD960+. The owner, Abe, personally offered me a much more affordable solution by patching up my engine cover using some custom glue/sealant and replacing the coolant pipe using their in house parts, driving the cost down to USD400 altogether. Besides this, theyve helped straighten out the front of my vehicle that was bent from a collision earlier, replaced and secured my front lights so that my car can pass the yearly inspection. Also, theyve diagnosed and corrected noise issues coming from my left front wheel because of a dislodged balancing weight on the wheel frame. All were done in a timely, affordable and professional manner. Keith, the manager, has always been very respectful and courteous in all my interactions with him. Abe and his technician are very thoughtful and professional in their work. The bottom line is that the guys at AK Auto really wont recommend you do something to your car unless you really need it.

Came in with $75k car for a simple plug of rear tire and left with all brake sensors damaged. I went back to complain about why all four wheels in the computer shows brake sensors are bad. They said it needs a reset. They tried to reset the computer and still nothing as sensors were still inoperable. Called the dealer and they said that each wheel has it own sensor and if you cant reset that means brakes are worn. I was surprised since the last time i checked the rear brake had 30k miles left and the front had 10k miles left. Why did they all fail at the same time? I then became suspicious and recalled watching the mechanic. I saw the mechanic banging all inner wheels with a hammer and there was a loud clanking noise. I thought to myself why is he meddling with the other wheels when I only needed one plugged. Its now evident that the damage is physical and not a software issue. Maybe they tampered with the sensors to have me think i needed new brakes. Where they desperate to take my money?

Background: I have a 15 year-old Japanese minivan. I went to a dealership for 5,000 mile service yesterday. They told me that my trans pan gasket is leaking, the front axle seal is leaking, and the coolant is dark. The dealership asked for a very high price to fix these "problems". I declined their offer but kept the 5,000 mile service. Experience: Today, I went to A K Auto services and asked them to check up with my minivan, especially on the three problems mentioned above. The service manager and his technicians checked up, and told me that for a 15 year old vehicle, it is in good condition, I should not mess it up but keeping regular services on it. It is noted that original dealership did not lie in terms of perfect new car standard. But it is not really leaking, it only has some oily marks. Comments: I really appreciate A K Auto services for their honesty and valuable advices. I will definitely recommend it to my friends for their auto service needs.

The last review on this page -- the 1-star review -- is so out of whack with our experiences and those of our neighbors that I really have to add an antidote. This place provides excellent repairs and service and is unfailingly honest! There have been several times that Abe has helped out (admittedly, with minor things) without any charge, even though Ive tried to insist on payment. For something more extensive, like the replacement of the timing belt on our 1999 Land Cruiser, his estimate was significantly, very significantly, below the dealer! Like about half price. This morning I will be taking our 1998 Honda Civic to AK Auto to ask for a check of an apparent leak of something other than oil. He will provide an honest assessment, and likely will do any needed repairs today. Good place. Does not deserve the negative rating at the bottom of the page. (Actually, it is so inconsistent with what others say that it really should be unread or removed.)

I have mixed feeling about providing a review. This is the kind of place you want to keep a secret so they dont get too busy to provide the good service Ive come to rely on. Ive been coming here for years. I live nearby so when I needed some work urgently and the dealer--whom I had used in the past-- wanted big bucks for a simple repair, I took a chance and went to see Abe. What a blessing! It saved me over $500 and the service was very professional. Ive been using this exclusively for my car work for about 5 years. Occasionally I check the prices for work at a dealership-since I have three vehicles from different manufacturers--and AK always is a far better deal. Never had a complaint but if I did, I know that they would take care of me.

Since moving to the DC area, weve tried several folks with mixed results. Keith (manager) and Abraham (owner and mechanic) have consistently been straightforward and fair with us, accurately estimating repair charges. Weve had them work on brakes, AC systems and an electrical sensor issue between our 99 Chevy Blazer and 03 Toyota Highlander. They charge pretty standard rates for labor and if there are options for how to repair a problem, we have found that they offered and explained them all so that we could make the best decision for us. Its been great to find a shop with which we could cultivate a relationship and on whom we can rely. One note: youll get your best service when you schedule before dropping off your vehicle.

I have been bringing my cars to AK Auto for 10 years and have always received high-quality service. The owner, Abe, is honest and never tries to sell you work that you dont need. Recently, my car failed safety inspection and the inspector told me it would cost $500 to fix. I brought my car to AK to be fixed and Abe looked at my car and told me there was nothing wrong with it. He even brought it to a nearby gas station to be re-inspected (since he doesnt do ispections at his shop) and it passed! The other place was just trying to rip me off and bringing it to AK saved me nearly $500!

We have been taking our cars to AK Automotive for the last three years. They have always been very responsive, flexible, and honest. The quality of their work has been excellent, and they have never proposed or recommended something that was not needed. They are good at diagnostics and fixing the problem at hand, charge a very fair price, and do not try to run up the tab. We drive older cars and depend on having competent mechanics and reasonable costs to keep our cars affordable, reliable, and on the road. AK Auto has been a rock steady resource for us.
