Im very glad we chose this facility for our self-storage needs. The location is ridiculously convenient to our apartment, and the facility is the cleanest self-storage facility Ive ever seen. The smallest unit is definitely sufficient for our needs. I will second "Carl"s review though, that you need to be prepared to spend a little more than the published rental rate to have your items insured. However, for only $9 more a month, I figured it wasnt too bad of an extra cost. In terms of security of our items, I feel very comfortable. You have to enter your access code when leaving the facility as well as entering; I am personally thankful for this extra security safeguard. When I initially rented, I think the folks in the front office thought I knew more than I did about renting a storage facility! Once I communicated that I wasnt totally clear on the policies, they were very nice and professional, and answered all of my questions. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this facility to others.

Ive rented storage spots in various places -- Sterling, VA; Spotsylvania, VA; and here -- and this facility is one of the nicest. I see far less bugs (even just harmless little spiders or moths) in the interior climate units than I used to see in other places. The unit was really clean when I did my walk-through and the process was very easy. To add to it, Ive used their exterior public bathroom and even that was cleaner than I expected. Ive been to restaurants that werent as clean in the restrooms. The owners are wonderful people. They are friendly and very easy to work with, even when I forgot to make a payment on time. When I made the late payment, I wasnt given a hard time about being a few days late. They are also very knowledgeable about the items in the store, for packing and what would be needed for different items. The automatic payment option has worked flawlessly. Not one problem with billing since I started using it.

Be advised they require you to pay them an additional fee to insure your stuff unless you have it insured by another insurance company. Seemed to me to just be a bait and switch. Also, there is a "fee" to start using the space as well, so the 1st month free promotion is really more like a 1st month discount. I went in expecting their smallest space advertised at $30/month with the 1st month free. The reality was I had to pay $29 for the first month and my monthly fee is $39. Still better than many other places, but not a pleasant surprise. Aside from that they were very friendly, clean, and competitively priced even with the extra costs so theyre still worth looking at. Edit: They also raised the price after 6 months or so to $44/month.

Its fine I guess. They dont have a dumpster, which is pretty annoying. The price is pretty good. They raised it after 4 or 5 months though, but for now it is still cheaper than most other places around. Its pretty off-putting to have the price raised before 6 months. Should they raise it again, my review will go from 4 stars to 3 stars. Edit: They raised the price again. Thats twice in 10 months. Im now paying 120% the price of a year ago. This place might not be the long-term storage solution I had wanted. If they raise the price again, a move might be in the cards. I still recommend them for short-term renters.

I used Extra Space for a year and a half and was very pleased with the experience. Compared to the other storage places in Richmond, Extra Space was reasonably priced. The grounds and the reception area were kept extremely clean. Aaron was very helpful when I had any account questions. Another reviewer said he was pressured to buy a protection plan, but that was not my experience at all. I would recommend this branch of Extra Space to anyone looking for a storage unit.

I must say this location has been great to me for several years. I just wanted to write to say for those looking for a company that will help where possible and always being considerate of customers likes and dislikes this is the company. I have always been met half way and always felt like they did the best they could do for me! I have rented a unit from this location for the past 7 years. ShirleyStine has always been friendly, professional and willing to accomodate my busy shipping schedule. She has made her sales office available for me to meet FEDEXs arcane pick-up/drop-off regulations. The facility is always immaculate and I feel very safe when working in my unit. I gladly endorse Shirley Stine and this Extra Space Storage location for anyone having the need for a storage unit!

They make you pay extra for insurance every month. They dont lock in your rate which means that you can have a rate increase whenever they want, as often as they want, as high as they want. Prices slightly higher than others. They recently increased rates dramatically and lost tenants and made no attempt to retain those tenants which is the same as being evicted only because the landlord can get more money from someone else

Shirley, the representative at the West End location has always been kind and helpful. My most recent experience with her was when I could not get my rope untied. She worked to help me until the rope was undone on one of summers hottest days. Cutomer Service at its Best!!!

I rented a storage unit last month for my business and have had a generally good experience here at Extra Space Storage. They do give the "hard sell" on the protection plan and required me to add it for the first month. I find that very annoying as I dont want the protection (items in the unit are worth less than $100). Other than that, the location is convenient, access is easy and staff are friendly.

The ladies at Extra Space were great to work with throughout our rental process. We originally made a reservation online, but decided to change the size of our unit andthey were extremely accomodating. They even worked out a few details on pricing to make it work for us and save us some money. I would definitely recommend Extra Space to others looking for an affordable storage facility.

Its always nice when you speak with a real person, not automated, over the phone. I wasnt able to process my monthly payment online so I called the office. I spoke with Shirley and she made sure the payment went through. The payment was processed quickly and I was abe to go about my weekend knowing it was taken care of. Thanks!

I was looking for a storage unit and had three units on reserve and chose extra space because of the friendle customer service I received from William and Shirley....the customer service went beyond just a phone call. Once arriving at extra storage Shirley was great and very helpful.

I have used this facility for several years. The staff is friendly and the service is awesome. This is the most cost effective option in town for storage. Shirley is very friendly and takes her time to ensure your storage needs are met. I would highly recommend them.
