Disclaimer: Posted this on Yelp as well, but in case Yelp filtered reviews, Id like to leave one here too. After reading good reviews about this place online, I decided to try it out. I had scheduled an appointment at 7pm and arrived 10 minutes early. Was greeted at the desk and confirmed the appointment. Was offered complimentary drinks. Nice. Casey was my hair dresser and was very friendly and receptive on how I wanted my hair done. I had opted for professional package which includes massage (you should try) and hot towels. My hair is very dry, curly, thick and I had grown them out for a couple of months. Casey inquired about how I usually part my hair and if there is any particular look I am going for. I did not have anything specific in mind and she walked me through what she thinks would look good on me. (+1!) She then proceeded to trim the sides and scissor-cut the top to the length that was more manageable. Hot-towels, shampoo + conditioning + scalp massage later, it was time for some styling lessons. She showed a couple of ways of styling the hair now and later when they grow, and what products are suitable for my hair-type. Some things I have noticed which I really appreciate- - The hair dressers are very professional. If you are the type who just wants to have your haircut in silence and doesnt talk much, you will definitely get that. - The place is clean and the hair dressers take good care of their areas. - Big mirrors and TVs. No loud annoying music blaring away. - They email you if they need to adjust appointments if they cant reach you on phone (provided you made an online appointment) - I believe they save your hair-cut details so that the next time your hair-dresser knows exactly what you want. Some things you need to be aware of: - Id recommend getting an appointment instead of walk-in, because I think they get very busy most days. - Parking near the place can be a problem on busy days. - Have time set off for your hair-cut (ballpark 30 minutes) and enjoy it. Should probably not rush through your haircut because youd only be hurting yourself by forcing the hair dressers to expedite what would normally take 20 minutes. Over-all, I am satisfied by the service. I would go again and would recommend anyone who hasnt been there to give them a try. Advice to GHQ- I think your website needs a re-design. If you are asking for address, etc for appointments, then its better if the page has SSL.

1) One of the dirties salons/barber shops I have ever been in. I would have complained but when I asked my stylist who the manager was, the gal she pointed too had a station that was even more disgusting than the rest of the place. Hair was piled up next to the trash bin and many were barely even cleaning between patrons. The stations were filthy and they were putting the clippers back down on dirty/ hair covered towels which defeats the point of cleaning them between use. You should never be too busy to clean or afford deep clean after hours. 2) There was no atmosphere. No music or Tv background and the only chatter was the manager apparently complaining about one of the old stylists that just quit. Terrible to have that level of shop talk in front of patrons if you ask me. Honestly, this experience was bad enough and the prices are high enough, I wont go back. When I go to a place like this Im also going for the atmosphere which makes me justify the cost. Missed the Mark.

Ive never rated anything before, but I figured that since Ive been going here for over 4 years straight I should weigh in. When I find a place that I like, I stay loyal to it and return to give them my business time and again. I used to make an appointment with a specific stylist. Now I just take whomever they give me because Ive never had a bad haircut here. They make notes about your haircut so that they can remember what you like whenever you come back. They always are very nice and engage you in a fun conversation when you are in their chair. Most of these ladies have been there multiple years and they all seem to enjoy their jobs. Lastly, the employees are dressed and act professionally, so your girlfriend or wife wont have any problem with you going here, unlike some places that are like the "hooters" of hair places. I highly recommend this place, and the complimentary beer is just the icing on the cake.

Glorified SuperCuts! I decided to try this place based entirely on the current reviews, and that was a mistake. I got the professional service and what I received was a $30 uneven hair cut with missed patches of hair. Beware about the current reviews, its really a chop shop with a complimentary beverage. They will make you sign a waiver that is displayed to the public with your name and phone number listed on the front desk for all to see if you choose to get a free beer. The stylist assigned to me looked like she just rolled out of bed with her hair pulled up in a mess and pieces of long hair dangling from her shirt. However, she did give me an amazing scalp massage! I was really disappointed that there was no straight razor, and the shaving cream was from a spray can. Going back to my barber place on Kempsville Rd.

Consider before skimming through the bad reviews that time management is your responsibility. Call and make an appointment. Do not expect to be catered to like this is some kind of GreatClips. That said, there are few places for a satisfactory mens haircut in my area. I drove 53 minutes after browsing a bit and seeing the great reviews for GHq Grooming for Men. My expectations were high. My needs were simple. Both were exceeded. Right away I was comforted by the proficiency communicated by Alana. I enjoyed hearing her professional opinion as she worked flexibly with me, a first time client. My uncertainty was met with understanding and a few confident decisions. I am satisfied with the service provided &I will be returning. I highly recommend GHq Grooming for Men.

Very impressed with the overall look and feel of the place, I like the complimentary drinks when you arrive and greeting. After losing my regular barber Ive had for the last four years, I was shaky starting new again especially when its a pretty chick doing cutting, usually their all glamour no talent, but SARAH did an excellent job and made it a very awesome experience, and made me feel like she had been cutting my hair for years! If your searching for a new start too, GO HERE!!! Its the best bar none! Or dont take my word for it and let the next pretty girl mess up your do!

I love this place. I needed help trimming my 6 month grow out beard when I found Nicole at GHQ. She was a god send, just when I thought I had to become professional again and shave my face, Nicole put that control in my beard so much so that even the big guys at work were complementing. Not only did she instill the confidence needed with the daily struggles of repping a beard but I tell everyone interested in finding a barber to check out this place. The hot towel and straight razor shave are sprinkles on top. Thanks again Nicole. -from your favorite bearded customer
