AVOID SENDING INSURED MAIL THROUGH THE US POST OFFICE, ESPECIALLY THE WASHOUGAL BRANCH. A few months ago I forgot my wedding band at a friends place in California. HE sent it to me insured through the USPS. When a worker at the Washougal branch handed the package to me, it was already open and the contents was missing. They said they dont deal with claims at all and I had to file online. I filed online and have gone in circles for the last for months, each time getting different answers. Twice Ive sent the requested information either certified or with delivery confirmation. Both time the claims department denied receiving the information, even though tracking showed they had received it. I called and went into the Washougal branch to try to get clarification, but they refused to help or provide a phone number or way to contact the claims department other than saying to use the online form. They refused even though the letters I received from the claim department said I could submit info locally. Finally after one long discussion, a worker at the Washougal Post Office admitted she did actually process insurance issues, but still refused to send in a report, but she said there was actually a phone number I could call. I called right there in the lobby and the claims person back East directed the Washougal worker to send the info. She did, with delivery confirmation, but still the claims department still said they did not receive it. I have called a half dozen time, trying to figure out what they want. Each time getting a little different answer. Today a woman in the claims department hung up on me when I tried to get clarification. So I called back and talked with someone else. I found out today, over four month later, and on the final appeal, that the claim was filed as "damaged content" rather than "missing content". That may be why my claim is being denied. Not only that, there is no option to select "missing content" online. They said the only way to file a "missing content" report is through the local Post Office. I have copies of everything, since they asked for the originals but denied receiving them- original package, sales receipt and insurance receipt. I feel burned twice because not only did a postal worker steal my wedding band, now they are being fraudulent by not honoring the insurance policy. I would have given up long ago if this didnt mean something to me. Ill still try for that one last appeal, but I will never send insured or tracked mail through the US Postal Service again.

Ok...now I get it. Per many reviews, as listed below, whose experiences are unhappily, frustratingly familiar...its NOT just me. Wish Id taken a look at the reviews quite a while ago. I too, dread discovering that any expected pkg is being handed off to this local USPS via UPS "Surepost" (will SUREly take several extra days & elevated BP to receive pkg), or FedEx "Smartpost" (wont even go there) ;-) At the office...(with the one, relatively new, young lady associate as an exception)...the obstinate, peculiar, touchy, counter staff and impatient, rude, indifferent "manager" at this branch are a black eye on the entire (usually, truly amazing) institution of the United States Postal Service. (Former employer of my sister, and several friends in other states). One reasonable, comparatively normal lady associate at Washougal branch left several months ago, was replaced with another pleasant, efficient young lady...and I can only imagine that she too, will transfer out of that dismal and bizarre little fiefdom just as soon as shes able. Cant begin to figure out the deal with our regular carrier. We can only guess that the couple of neighbors that actually receive their mail and pkgs on a timely, regular basis are bribing him. Go to Camas or Vancouver if you can. Well be getting a P.O. Box at another location to avoid the chore of dealing with this situation. (And it would appear that the local office phone line is "taken off the hook" or otherwise disabled during business hrs. So professional & responsible, not).

Worst post office ever! I live in an apartment, we have locking mail boxes and for packages there are a couple larger locking mail boxes. In the past if it does not fit in my mail slot then they will put my package in the larger slot or leave a note to pick up. This last Thursday I had an important package coming, it was limited edition, was super excited to get it. I waited at home till 12:30 before I had to leave to go to work. When I got home later that night I checked the mail box and there was nothing, upon further inspection I checked my email and saw they said they delivered it to my front door at 12. Im angry because what idiot leaves a package in front of an apartment door? Where anyone can take it, Im confused why they were so lazy they couldnt write me a pickup slip? In other words, my package was never received, and its funny that they say it was delivered at 12, when I was home and waiting for it and they were not there. I contacted the post office and the woman was extremely rude, she got an attitude with me and basically told me tough luck and that its not their fault or problem.... And they wonder why they are loosing business....hmm.

Incredibly rude and unprofessional. After receiving a notice (from the amazon app, not the carrier) that my packages couldnt be delivered (because the carrier couldnt come to my front door??) and being advised to directly contact the carrier I called the post office and explained my situation. The woman who answered was incredibly rude and had a bad attitude from the get go. She wouldnt offer a single explanation as to why my package wasnt delivered other than interrupting me with "you can pick it up tomorrow". And insinuating it was my fault because I didnt answer my door? And then saying that they wouldnt deliver straight to my door? She made no sense at all. There was no notice on my door or in my mail box, it was like the carrier just decided it was time to stop delivering packages and go home. I see from other reviews Im not the only person experiencing these problems with this post office and I hope they clean up shop soon because these people are incredibly rude and unprofessional over the phone and in person.

Had a ring shipped insured via USPS. My carrier forged the signature and it was never delivered. Filed a complaint and have been dealing with the local supervisor Stephanie. Shes the typical awful govt employee, zero help and pushed me off to some ISG govt website. This is why no one should use the USPS. Government employees that have ZERO accountability and dont care about their jobs....... Notice my mail carrier is different now but unhappy with how my problem was dealt with. Im sure nothing will come of this. My final opinion is the united States post office is just another broken government agency. Use Fed ex or UPS. Update 4.11.17 no adults really are here. This govt office is broken. Go figure...... Update 4.24.17 still no resolution about my bad mail carrier. Got ahold of an adult in charge of the Washougal post office. Sure Im never gonna see a penny from the registered mail but Im gonna poke at these morons until I get bored. Government employees suck.

I have never had a problem with this P.O. they are always courteous, cheerful and knowlegeable. I mail a lot of packages to a sick friend so am at the P.O. often. We get rural delivery and I have never had a problem with that either. I think people like to complain about the mail, like they do the weather. However, if you stop to think, it is an incredible service to get something mailed across the country so easily and cheaply, mere pennies. And what company would be willing to do this? It is one of the gems of our government - efficient, actually making a profit, an immense service to citizens of any age, creed or color. It is a part of our government we should be thankful for, and proud of. I am!
