I have had a totally opposite experience than the others who posted reviews here, and frankly I cannot believe they are talking about the same people. The two people mentioned in these reviews must be the nicest, most trustworthy people Ive ever met. I have tried so many service centers over two decades of vehicle ownership, and weve never had the quality of service we get here at Hillcrest. My first visit was after one of their technical employees highly recommended their workmanship. I had a problem that other service centers have told me would cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars. When I came to Hillcrest, I was told that there was nothing to repair, and that it was a normal symptom of an older vehicle. They didnt charge me a thing. At least two other times I brought in my vehicle, they found nothing wrong and decided not to charge me a single cent. Every other place Ive been to, has charged me at least $40 just for looking. Other times, of course, they had to charge me a nontrivial amount, but they were up-front about everything and did not do unnecessary stuff. (And I know what Im talking about: I teach future engineers and scientists for a living, so I am not someone you can easily fool with these things.) For example, one time during a maintenance call, I asked them if my tires needed replacing, because they looked worn to me, but they said no. Any other place would have piled on as much work as possible: its happened to me before. I also think it is unfair, in general, to make personal attacks in reviews like this. Besides, I have never seen any of Hillcrests people as "rude" or "trashy". Whatever personal idiosyncracies they may have is irrelevant: the fact is, Scott, Anne, and their techs have always bent over backwards to be honest and up front with me, and I wish all service shops were the same. I think that if you have had any problems with them, you could have returned and I strongly believe they are the type of people who would have addressed your complaints and concerns in a fair manner. Take it from someone who many other shops have tried to dupe over the years: You can trust the folks at Hillcrest; and Ill gladly give my testimony if they ever need me to do so.

Just received my truck back from the kind staff at Hillcrest Automotive, which was my second time using them for major maintenance since I moved to Mobile one year ago. I cant say enough positive things about my experience with them. They are extremely accurate with their time estimates, which helps immensely when I only have one day to drop my truck off and get it back in the same day. They truly do treat my truck as if it were their own; recommending less expensive parts if they know the items are still of quality and recommending the more expensive part if they know it will be worth it in the long run. The technicians engage with you more than any other shop Ive been to, and even sent me a couple of photos of items they were working on to ask if I wanted them replaced or not. You can take your vehicle to a quick in-and-out chain, or you can support your local, friendly business which is well represented by the folks at HA. For a business like this, their prices are still comparable to what you would pay at the seemingly "cheaper" alternatives. Thanks to everyone at HA for the great tech support and for making this customer feel at home in Mobile.

Horrible service. My AC was blowing hot air for about two weeks so me and my grandma went here because she had used them in the past. We ended up sitting there for almost three hours, and they were unable to fix the issue. A man was helping us, maybe he was the manager, Im not sure. He told me he would give me a call back when he was able to find the part that he needed in order to fix my car. Two days pass and I still havent heard anything, so I call and the same guy tells me that he is still looking to see if the part is somewhere local, but if not he will call me back tomorrow and we will go ahead with an order from the manufacture. He never called me back. A week has gone by now. All they did was waste our time. Obviously they do not care about customer service or generating business. Would definitely not recommend.

Had my car towed there by AAA after a recommendation by a relative. They diagnosed fuel pump problem and replaced it. Picked it up 3 days later and it had the same problem. Managed to drive it back and it died in their parking lot. After several calls they found a relay problem and fixed that. Meanwhile I paid for fuel pump, filter and relay for about an $1100 repair charge. They explained that they didnt have many Saturns in for service and the fuel guage sender was impossible to replace because the fuel tank access was too small. So I received the car with a broken fuel gauge but it is running. I just have to watch the mileage and will have to have it repaired later if I sell the vehicle. Wouldnt recommend them.

Probably the most honest and trustworthy mechanic shops in town. Took my car in because my car was rattling whenever I would brake, and thought I needed my breaks replaced. Turns out it was just a piece of aluminum under my car that had gotten bent and was rattling on my exhaust pipe. They told me I wouldnt need my brakes replaced for a few months, didnt pressure me into getting any unnecessary work done and didnt charge me a dime. Other times Ive had work done they have incredibly fair prices, much better than youd get anywhere else. In addition to being knowledgeable and trustworthy, the staff are all incredibly personable. Highly recommend.

After suffering what seemed like a major issue with my vehicle within a block of Hillcrest Automotive, I dropped my car off for H.A. to take a look. They quoted me over $1000 to correct "critical issues". I decided to take the car to another shop that I have had experience with in the past. They found that H.A. had never even checked the system that wound up being the problem. They fixed the problem for $150 and have gained my trust in the future. I will never take a vehicle or recommend someone take their vehicle to Hillcrest Automotive

Not because I even went there for service. I have no idea what their service is like. However, being experienced with fixing my own car, I diagnosed my window motor problem on my own. I dont have the tools to do it on my own at the time, so I called them asking for an estimate which I was refused over the phone. They wouldnt even give me a labor cost estimat . The only good thing here is that they told me I could bring it by and have it diagnosed for free (however long the diagnosis Ive already made would take).

When was the last time you walked into a business for a service you needed, and felt like the attendant at the counter genuinely wanted to help? They gave you the feeling their family-owned business really wanted to assist your needs-- not up-sell you-- because they want your trust and return business? That is Hillcrest Automotive. They were recommended to me, so I have had my car serviced there a few times now, and will continue to do so. Thank you for the great customer service!
