This place can be such a scam. They charged me over $1000 to have a creeking sound fixed on my Wifes front end. They didnt fix the issue, I dont think they even test drove it, becuase it happens by just lurching forward with the car. I call them up and they look at it again free of charge after explaining that I shouldnt HAVE to pay again for a service I already payed for. An afternoon later, they call me up and say I have to pay them another $1200 to fix the actual problem that they claim was the engin mounts. He also goes on to tell me this is not a critical issue and is "purely cosmetic." My wife calls BS, I agree and decide to have someone who knows what they are doing to fix it later. Before all this, we took her car in for new rear brakes, they did it wrong or dropped something in the brake pad that caused a gash in the disk a day later. Took it in and they replaced it, after reasoning with them to do it for free. The brakes are still not %100 from what they used to be after being completly replaced. Fail! Conclusion - Staff is friendly (at counter and over phone). The people actually doing the repairs probably dont even have a GED, cause they cause more problems than they try to solve. Stupid!

I called and asked how much they charge to press in a wheel bearings if i bring the parts into them. They said $25 for a walk-in. When I get to the store, they tell me $35 for a walk-in. I demanded that they honor the price that they told me on the phone, and they just laughed at ,me. Waste of time and money! Ive heard many other bad things about the management and mechanics at other PB locations around the midwest too. UPDATE: My girlfriend took her car there for wheel balancing before checking with me. After 5 days one of the weights fell off! Took it back and they fixed their mistake. Surprise, another week goes by and yet another weight falls off another tire. My gf was furious that these goofs cant even put a simple weight on a tire rim. Total time & travel wasted: 6 hours. These goofs are just unbelievable..they charge near dealership rates and their work is FAR FAR below standard.

Set an appointment for shocks & struts replacement 4 days in advance. Also asked them to diagnose an engine warning light. They assessed my suspension and engine for $120, but told me I did not need shocks/struts but new tires. Then offered a long list of possible issues they could do that MIGHT fix the engine light and occasional stalls. Yes, tires were needed but the need for shocks were absolutely undeniable--and verified by several other mechanics. PB gave an extremely high estimate compared with other service centers, which I declined especially after learning they would need to order parts and have me bring the car back in. I called another center and had the work done much cheaper and faster, but I still had to pay Pep Boys $120 to MIS-diagnose my car.

One star for its location... I went there to change my vans tires. They took my van, my keys, my money and asked me to come back in 3 to 4 hours, which I did. I returned 4 hours later and by then they did not looked at my van at all. The lady told me that it was impossible that someone would have taken my van for service that day because the shop was full and they were behind schedule... She spent around 30 mins looking for the papers and never found them, and I had to literally point with my finger where my vans keys were, and there were no documents attached to them. The manager finally stepped in and immediately the took the van and asked me to return in 1.5 hrs. By then, they just apologized for the misunderstanding. Horrible service in general!

Worst customer experience ever! Alex the assistant manager has terrible customer service skills. I needed new brakes and rotors installed and quoted me a price over the phone and after it was all done the price went up $75!!! I even called three different pep boys and they all quoted me the price which was $75 less! I asked him if his is how they get people in the store by lying an deceiving the customer and he goes "yes, how about we high five". Ive never been more insulted or had this poor of an experience ever. Alex definitely needs some major customer service training. It all seemed like a joke to him and he never once apologized for mis quoting me or anything. Beware of shady sales men here. Take your business elsewhere.

I brought my Honda in for brake service, after the rotors were rusting. Although I live in Chicago, I was on the road. I went to the Round Lake Beach Pep Boys, and I was duly impressed. They talked to me about the myriad of options I had for parts, OEM, aftermarket, and generic. The manager, Kevin told me why a replacement was necessary, and that a simple resurfacing would result in vibrations. I opted for parts that are not only guaranteed, but came at a fraction of the cost I would have had to pay at my dealership. Even though I live far, I will continue to travel out to Round Lake Beach for any major auto work because I know I can save money and will be treated like a highly valued customer.

My wife blew 2 tires a mile from our house.Only had 1 spare. I went to Pep Boys to get a tire to take the car home as it was on a Friday after 7pm They quoted me $104.00 for the tire and I had to have the tire balanced for $35.00 . I asked why, as I only needed it to go 1 mile. I was told it was a state law. When I objected they told me it was Pep Boys policy and there was nothing they could do.Looked at the receipt after I got home and they replace the valve stem also. The Firestone dealer across the street would sell me a tire without balancing if they had my size. Seems to me your $104.00 tire would never be $104.00 so why tell a customer it is $104.00. Shame on you Pep Boys for your policy

I went in for an oil change and tire rotation they told me on week days they only charge $19.99, I was charged more of course. Well in the oil change, they were supposed to do a diagnostics test, which they said they did. Well, the day after my oil change, my car will not drive forward. The transmission fluid was almost empty. And I already knew my blinkers were acting weird. I got my car towed to the Pep Boys and they said the car drove fine, the blinkers work, and the transmission fluid is full. I believe theyre just trying to cover who ever screwed up the day before! I am furious with them. WORST experience ever! Do not come here.

They will try to cheat you, look at your receipt, When they mention ANYTHING is included STUDY YOUR RECEIPT. They will lose parts on your and try to say you never brought it. They will do a half baked job, then ask you to drive your vechicle and when your car gets damaged because you drove it, they will try to blame it on anything but their shoddy workmanship . Understand if your getting anything done here besides putting air on your tires, be prepared to taken advantage of, be alert and on guard, do not trust anything they say until you can full varify.
