I have a 2008 Dodge Sprinter that needed service. These vehicles are highly computerized and require a high degree of expertise in order to problem solve. Read good reviews about this shop so called and asked about experience working on these specific models. Was transferred to female service advisor (s/a) in which she replied curtley, “SIR, we work of fleets!” Oh, great- that’s exactly what I am looking for, I thought to myself. Once in the shop, their master mechanic diagnosed, with ‘100% confidence’, all of my symptoms were being caused by a faulty EGR valve- $980. “What if he’s wrong?” I asked. The same female s/a responded, “Then we will put your old one back on.” Well, I can’t loose, I thought to myself and authorized the replacement. After the install and a road test with a co-owner SAME symptoms- no change. The co-owner mentioned that he had “changed a Sprinter head gasket- once.” WHAT?!?!?! That’s all?????? I thought to myself, realizing at that point I was in trouble. I left the shop, walked home and did more research that lead me to suspect the transmission, and that the electrical connection to the transmission should be inspected for contamination. I called the shop talked to the same female s/a to report my findings, and her response was, “Oh yeah- I have heard of that.” WHAT?!?!?!?!?!? You have heard of it??? That bit of information could have been helpful in troubleshooting!!!- why didn’t you mention it?!?!?!?!?!?! I thought to myself. When I called back a few days later to check on progress, the same co-owner said I needed a new transmission- $4,566. I asked him to please reinstall my old EGR valve, replace the fuel filter and I would be in to pick up the vehicle. When I arrived, a $573.79 bill was waiting for me- “Remove and replace EGR valve. So, the female s/a had done as promised- she had my old EGR valve reinstalled but forgot to tell me earlier, that she was going to charge me for doing it! I was curious as to their parts mark-up. I found a EGR valve, identical to Good Works $980 valve, at Kings Chrysler Dodge- $375.95…160.67% parts mark-up WOW!!!!!! I removed and cleaned my old EGR valve and it is working fine, even though the SA advised that the senior mechanic would have cleaned it but it was beyond cleaning. Oh yeah, on the fuel filter? It now ‘seeps’ due to a fracture in the plastic fuel line, that wasn’t there prior to the filter change.

Good Works truly does provide the best costumer service. The back story: My car was not turning on and I had it towed to another repair shop that offered towing services. I paid $100 for the diagnosis. I could have been waived for the $100 if I decided to get my car fixed with the other repair shop, but the bad costumer service and reviews made me decide not to. I called shops around Tempe and explained the issue with my car. Good Works was the only shop that really tried to answer my question to the best of their ability and took the time to help me. I dont know anything about cars, so of course I was asking questions that someone who knows about cars would consider stupid. The person I talked to when I called this shop never seemed annoyed by my questions and always had a correct answer. He also seemed incredibly knowledgeable about cars. Choice Auto Repair has a higher rating than Good Works, but the guy I talked to seemed annoyed by my questions and did not try his best to answer my questions. I would have chosen Choice Auto Repair if it wasnt for that. Experience: After deciding to get my car fixed at Good Works they quickly told me the problem with my car, what they had to do, and how much it would cost. The best part was that they did not charge me for a diagnosis, given I had paid the first shop I had my car towed to $100. My car was fixed and ready to go quickly. They even offered a shuttle to get me to the shop. Its been two months and my car is working great. The only difference from before is that it shakes and it makes a weird noise when I stop, but Im pretty sure thats because its old. I would say this place is pricy. People keep telling me that I payed to much for the fix, but Im fine with the price because the service was great. If I had gone with the first shop I would have probably been worse off because they would had not fixed my car completely. And the problem that I had with my car was that the distributor stopped working and the spark plugs were burnt. For around $800 they fixed the issue. The first shop I went to told me something was wrong with the timing belt. They couldnt tell me what was wrong because they had to open it up and it would cost around $500. This shop seems to always tell costumers exactly what the problem is while other shops dont care to provide the best answers to costumers.

I read all the reviews and thought this place seemed great, and I really didnt want to give it such a low score, but failure to service deserves a 0. So first of all, if youre not familiar with the area, expect to get turned around and have to circle a bit to find it, even with Google maps. When I made my appointment, I wasnt offered any insight that it may be tricky to locate. I dont know why they dont say anything - maybe as to not insult anyone? Id rather be offered that kind of advise rather than have to drive around for 20 minutes in rush hour traffic looking for the correct road to turn down. By the time I got there, I was pretty upset, but to top things off, their "computers are down" so there was no way for them to process me unless I had cash. They said they had their IT guy on his way to fix it but it wouldnt be for another 20 minutes or so. Ok, I understand that computers "go down", but just because a computer isnt available shouldnt mean business completely stops - why not take down all my information and send me a bill, or start the work and process it later when the computers come back up? That would have shown trust and initiative. What I consider the "failure to service" is that there was no attempt to contact me to let me know they wouldnt be able to service my vehicle at the scheduled time. Like most people, Im very busy and my time is important to me. This whole experience for me can be best summed up as a waste of time.

It is a tad hard to find, I do warn! Its down along the canal. They really do work to save money by not advertising a lot, so while it makes them harder to find, the price is worth it. These people do not lie, nor do they push for a service you do not need! This is worth so much when seeking a mechanic! Not only do you look for price, but you look for a place that wont add on a dozen things they found "broken". Good Works Auto Repair will tell you if they find anything wrong, yes, but they will also physically show you what they find, so you know the truth. Also! I have been to Big O Tires for oil changes.. and left waiting for hours! Three hours once, and they were nice enough to give me a free oil change, but I when I went to have it done I was still left waiting 2 hours while they had my car! I saw their mechanics chatting and leaving my car on the lift before they even started draining the oil... Good Works Auto had me in and out in a half an hour, including showing me some problems and quoting me prices (these were things I already knew were bad). Good Works Auto also has a nice waiting area where you can make coffee or hot coco fresh for yourself as you wait. They dont take any longer than you need, which is such a blessing! Im never waiting hours for an oil change, I am going to Good Works Auto every time from now on!
