Max is a very nice guy, but his mechanics are unreliable. I do most of my own work but when I dont have time or special tools I pay to have the work done, and Im very particular about the quality. Despite the fact that my dad had problems with them and swore them off, Ive used them off and on to work on my VW Vanagon, Subaru Legacy Outback, and Subaru Loyale. Ive had to take different cars back several times for problems with their work. Max was apologetic and took care of them courteously, but I shouldnt have to check the work and most folks wouldnt notice if the work was done poorly. I just found that the water pump gasket on my Outback is leaking about 60k mls after they did the timing belt and pump. Early on I had to take the car back and leave it for repair when I noticed his mechanic broke the timing belt cover. Max apologized and fixed it no charge, but of course I had to go several miles to drop and pick up the car. A couple years ago the Subaru dealership told me I had a coolant leak from the water pump gasket. I dropped it at Old Fashion again to have it checked. Max told me it was the head gasket, not their work. My sons been driving the car until recently so I just got around to looking for myself and the coolant is clearly leaking where the pump bolts to the block. Its going to be a lot of work to repair because the timing belt covers, timing belt, and cam sprocket have to come off to do this job. Im not trusting the Outback or my other cars to them again... their work doesnt hold up. Ill either fix this myself or have Vals Alignment do it... theyve never let me down.

My car failed emissions at Performance Emission on state street, so I took it to old fashion to get looked at. Old fashion front desk told me they "made a bunch of adjustments, and cleaned everything out". They also retested my emissions for me, and my car passed. I was charged $100 for this. Out of curiosity, I used my free retest at performance emission, and the result hadnt changed from their first test. So old fashions work made no difference when tested by an independent party. I basically got charged $100 for old fashion to finagle a passing emissions test for me (my vehicle failed idle hydrocarbon emissions at 710 rpm, old fashions reported idle speed was over 1000? My car has never idled that fast). If they were going to just fudge the test anyway, why not just retest it using "their method" first before poking around the engine bay for an hour? Why charge me for the work they claim to have done, (which they claim was the reason my car passed at their facility) which made no tangible difference when tested by a 3rd party? Seems fishy to me. My friends and family will be taking their cars elsewhere now.

The absolute best mechanics in Salt Lake City. I agree with Brian, the negative ratings do not reflect my experience here at all. As a woman, trust me, its hard to find legitimate mechanics who arent out to rip me off. I started out at a mechanic who told me it would be $350 per window to fix the motors in my automatic windows. My first stroke of good luck was when I met Scott at All Small Auto Wrecking in Midvale. He brought out several electric panels and tried them out, and actually got my passenger window to work right there on the spot. He even followed up with me a few days later to see if Id found a solution for the other windows, at which time he recommended Old Fashion Service since he had been working with them for over 20 years. I was so grateful because I dropped off my car in the morning, they had it fixed before lunch, the owner is the nicest around, and they charged me less than half of what the other mechanic quoted. I also love the fact that they are open on Saturdays since I work during the week, so mark me down in the category of fan for life of this auto shop.

I have been taking my cars (including some very interesting ones) there for 10 years, and have always been happy with their work. I can not say the same for a few other places I have had work done. I make no claim to being a professional mechanic, but I have changed the oil and lubed my cars in the past, I have changed the brakes, tuned them up including gaping spark plugs, changing points (a now out of date job), and timing, replaced water pumps, starters, and alternators, and I have rebuilt two engines, so I know enough to know a good mechanic when I see one. I have also had them work on a few unusual collectors vehicles like an M151 MUTT Vietnam era jeep, a British military Ferrit armored car, and I even trust them with my antique Corvette.

these guys are awesome, >>>Old Fashion<<< name says it all, they give you the good old fashion service in every department, and a fair price to go with it all. Ive been a customer for 5 years and they have not ever done wrong with me, and if they did i know it would not be intentionally and they would more than compensate. OH AND 1 MORE THING, disregard the two negative reviews because they both sound like idiots, like the guy with the switches, how are you sure the other auto shop wouldnt of taken advantage of you if you didnt already know what was going on? and like really, what car service center brings your car to you when there done working on it? really? how spoiled.

I bring my car with carburetor problems, but running, after two weeks they tell me that I need some gasoline for the car, I put 15 gallons of gas and they they said that the car car do not run and they are going to charge me more money to make the car run and see what was wrong with my car. All they care is for the money no to give you a good service, be vigilant because they will still your money and they will not do the job.

This place sucks. They made my car worst and then asked me to have it towed back in, it sat there all day without anyone looking at it and then they said the trans was bad. Took it to ford, turns out the throttle body was ruined from them not connecting a hose after their work.

I took my car here for a diagnosis only. The guy was very understanding. After telling me it would be $2700 to fix my 17-year-old car, he was very gracious to allow me to pay for the $90 dual-diagnosis in installments.
