I initially left this review: "Brought my Suburban up for an A/C repair, got an estimate of $377, which was a little high but I was desperate. They kept breaking the connections and having to replace the compressor and evaporator, and all the lines, and costed me $1200! Then they broke the glovebox (wont close now), turn signals, and horn putting it back together.....then they say (when I brought it back) that those things must have been broken before! Horrible customer service, high prices, low attention to detail, all the stuff that was in the glovebox was scattered around the vehicle. My God, run from this place, sloppy, shoddy, and doesnt stand behind their work!" I returned one more time to have them try to make it right, and the owner was VERY upset that I posted the negative review, almost cussed me out, then agreed to try to make it right if I brought down the bad review. I agreed at first, but then found that they didnt re-attach the grille, left several bolts out of the engine compartment, didnt re-attach the dash, bent the glovebox latch, cracked the fan shroud, and the AC quit working. I realized I didnt want these guys wrenching on my car again, so I made an offer. The following was sent by email to Ron Evans, the owner: "Dear Mr. Evans, Last July, I had my vehicle in your shop for an A/C job. Im sure youll remember, its a 1999 2500K in blue. I brought the vehicle in to have the A/C fixed, and got an estimate of $377 to have it fixed. Through several mishaps of the system connections breaking, the estimate climbed to $1,200. At the time, I needed the A/C badly to cart my kids around. The A/C was eventually fixed and worked well, but there were several outstanding issues that happened during the install that needed attention. At the time specifically, the glove box no longer closed, the dash rattled, the horn didnt work, and the grille was not screwed back in. Upon your recommendation, I took the vehicle back to your location (while you were on vacation) and the tech said he fixed all the issues, of which not one thing was fixed. Dissatisfied, I gave a poor review on the internet as I was not satisfied with all the things that were broken on the vehicle while it was in your shop. I even stopped by to see you to give you a chance to clear the matter up, at which point you were very upset with me for the negative review. I said that I would gladly remove the posting if my issues were fixed, and agreed to bring it in again to let you look it over. However, upon further inspection of the vehicle, I found that the bolts were never placed back in the dash (I bought and installed the 6 new bolts), the horn was actually DISCONNECTED (which I reconnected), the grille was never bolted in (I bought new bolts and put them in), the a/c brackets were never bolted down (I bought bolts and did so), the overflow fill tank for the radiator (which had to be removed to access the A/C) was never bolted back on, the tab to the glovebox was actually bent (so I re-bent it back and it secures fine now), and the radiator shroud was broken in two spots and was only put in with one (wrong) screw. When I found all these things, there was no way I was bringing it back, I just fixed it all myself and figured Id leave the review as proof of what happened to me. By October, the A/C had stopped working.......and I was just beside myself! Not only did I spend $1,200, but had a bunch of damage to my car that I had to repair, then the A/C doesnt work on top of that? Well, you said your work is guaranteed, so Im going to make you an offer. In good faith, I removed the negative review. All that I ask in return is that you refund me for the total amount I paid to have the A/C fixed. At this point I would be very hesitant to bring the vehicle back to the shop for good reason. Please let me know how youd like to proceed on this matter. Sincerely, Steve Harrison" No response was given, so the review goes back up. Ample chances were given.

GREAT experience with JR!! With serious rust issues, the "little" noise I had begun to hear in the exhaust could have cost me thousands in repairs before I could drive my 2003 Camry back to Michigan!! I wanted to do the minimum since its an old car and cost was a factor. I feel SO grateful to JR because this man is truly sincere, compassionate and knows his stuff! He went above and beyond in EVERY way to repair only what was absolutely necessary! After giving me a quote to replace the flex pipe, and apologizing for only carrying the BEST parts and nothing cheaper, while he was cutting the old flex pipe off, a big section of the rusted exhaust pipe gave way and simply fell to the ground! He brought me out and SHOWED me exactly what had happened and explained that he would fix it for FREE! He "fashioned" a new piece of pipe, re-attached the catalytic converter and even "created" a new hanger since the old one crumbled!! He explained the rest of the system to me AND what would likely occur next and not to worry because it would still be drivable; the peace of mind he gave me was priceless! I even tried to give him a tip and he refused! He made me feel like a member of his family and Ive told my own daughter and everyone I know in the area to bring their vehicles to JR. He was an "angel" who truly came to my rescue in a great time of need and uncertainty! Other shops may have tried to convince me to replace the entire exhaust, catalytic converter and 3 sensors (because they ARE all failing/have failed and WILL need replacement eventually!) which would have been insanely expensive! JR even told me HOW the NEXT issue that will arise can be fixed so the mechanics back in Michigan cant try to convince me otherwise! I cant say enough good things about JR and how much better I feel now so I can enjoy the rest of my visit with my daughter and grand children, knowing Ill be safe driving back to Michigan!! Thank YOU from the bottom of my heart JR!!! (I feel compelled to mention that the other man who was there, I believe it was the owner (longish blonde hair), was quite abrupt and unwelcoming when I arrived so HE is extremely lucky to have JR working there because kindness & compassion are MUCH needed and appreciated traits, especially for us women, when it comes to vehicle repair! So ladies, if initially you are treated with harshness, try to remember that JR is there and THE MAN to work with!!) Lastly-I would NEVER have known this shop does ALL types of auto repair because the name indicates they do ONLY certain specialty areas (muffler and brakes)!! If they want to increase business, I believe changing the name to Muffler City & Auto Repair, or something similar, would be of great benefit!)

I see the posts on this page are primarily male. Being female I felt they were gender biased until I read some of the posts. I was charged double that I would have paid elsewhere for the labor charge. I moved to Mandarin a couple of years ago and wanted to find a mechanic close by. My former mechanic was honest, All Pro on Southside Blvd. They give a written estimate [computer generated] every time I had work done, Upon leaving the shop I was charged the initial quote, not a penny more. They took into consideration any little extras, fluids, disposal fees, tax, etc in the initial estimate so there are no surprises. Not so at Muffler City. Basically, it’s your word against the owner, Ron, who when questioned acts scatterbrained and denies what we agreed upon on the phone, so my advice is to always get a written estimate before you put the mechanic to work. And don’t forget to ask about warranties! Any decent mechanic should guarantee his work.
