On 10/29 I called Make-a-Move in Decatur to schedule my grandfathers move to Sunrise of Decatur from Coventry Place and during the call the Scheduler told me that a senior move to/from assisted living was a flat rate of $375 with a $30 discount for veterans, which brought the cost of my grandfathers move down to $345. I was asked how many rooms he was in now, and how many rooms hed be moving into. I told them it was a one bedroom to one bedroom move. I was asked about furniture and I told them a dresser, some tables, a loveseat and then the rest would be boxes. On the morning of the move, the movers arrived ONE HOUR LATE and saw that my grandfathers apt was on the 4th floor at Coventry and said thered be an extra $75 charge for the elevator fee. This came as a surprise to us as nobody during the initial call asked if an elevator would need to be involved and we as customers, didnt know to even mention such a thing or even know it would affect cost. $75 is not small change to an elderly man on a fixed income! I called the office to voice my concerns that the potential for the extra charge had never been mentioned during the initial cost breakdown. I reached the branch manager, Johnny Davis. He said I should have told them an elevator would be involved when I initially called AND that its written on the cost breakdown for senior flat rates which he could fax to me, and that its a non-refundable charge. I explained to him that nobody sent me a fax of the cost when I booked, nor did they even mention there was such a sheet with the information, so saying its available in print after the fact was not helpful to the customer who wants to know the full price of a move. He said I was being "combative"; me the customer is being combative because Im unhappy that I was sprung with a surprise charge. He said his employee was supposed to have mentioned the possible extra charges and then he went on to quickly add that "its a two-way street because our movers got over there and they didnt have a full itemized list of all the boxes and the pictures and you said there was no bed and they had to move a bed!" I responded to him that there was NO bed; we purchased a bed and had it delivered ahead of time, by the mattress company to the new address ourselves. The bed was delivered long before the move, so there was NO bed they moved. He said I was lying! He said it was my responsibility as a customer to state every single item that was to be moved--even though his employee never told me this over the phone when he took my order. He said he knows they DID ask me for an itemized list because thats on the script and HE wrote the script. So I simply asked him whether the customer is to blame when his employees dont follow his script by divulging all the hidden costs and not asking for itemizations. He said he believes they did and basically said go ahead and write the negative review I said Id write, he doesnt care. He said his company has worked with Sunrise in the past and have a good reputation with them. I said I dont work for Sunrise and I dont care what reputation he has with them, its about whats going on with THIS situation. He seemed to think one disgruntled customer is not worth the effort of him as a branch manager to worry about. Im amazed at the level of poor customer service from Make a Move. Simply AMAZED. I will be notifying Sunrise in full detail so they can notify new residents asking for moving company recommendations to not recommend them. Of the 3 moving companies Sunrise recommended, make-a-move was listed last; Ill be calling them to take cease recommending them for sheer rudeness and failure to disclose full costs and for refusing to adequately manage customer complaints. I would hate for anyone to have to deal with Mr. Davis and his contracts that (conveniently for the company) you dont get to ever see and only get to hear about when you call to complain. Worst Customer Service EVER!

Horrible, horrible company! Hired to load a semi to move a two story house....first they showed up with a mini dolly with no straps which couldnt move a refrigerator or washer and dryer. Luckily, I had rented one from uhaul. Second, I removed the kitchen door before they showed up to remove the refrigerator out of the kitchen. When we were not around instead of removing the exterior back door, which is only removing three bolts, they pushed it though the door, dented the metal door and scratched up the refrigerator and dented it. I also wrote on the receipt they damaged it and called the comapny when I found out what they did it. Luckily my daughter saw it before they loaded it on the truck and came and told me. Worst of all, the way they loaded the truck...boxes to the ceiling in the front of the truck and didnt secure them properly, and assure us they wouldnt move. WRONG! All the boxes fell during the move, shifted everything and did major damage to almost all the furniture. Over $6000.00 worth of furniture ruined by their unprofessional unskilled movers they sent!!!! When I sent pictures and made several calls a day and sent emails, they continued to avoid me....finally on day 8 I received a call telling me the wont cover the damages, because once the truck door closes thats it....they refused to give me their insurance information to file a claim. Please do not use this horrible company...if I can save one person every week from using them and going though this horrible experience, it is worth my time writting this. Now I see why people sell their things and buy new stuff when they move out of state. The total move cost me $4600 with semi rental and their movers. Damages over $6000! Run! RUN! Run! They tell you their insured, but refuse to give you their insurance info to file a claim! They should be put out of business!!!! Please, save yourself from using this company that will cost you a lot in damages...find a real professional company and get their insurance information in advance and verify it. People like this dont care about your things. Protect yourself from companies like this. I will be happy to send anyone pictures of the horrible damages done.

THE WORST MOVING COMPANY EVER!! Please save yourself the heartache and NEVER use this company. A few things I experienced: 1. They dont have trucks - they showed up in a Uhaul with one guy & his friend. 2. They wont fix anything they damage!!! - They have ignored my calls, and disregarded my attempts to follow up on them repairing damage they admitted doing to my door! 3. They dont have an office - the phone number dialed a guy in his car blasting Rap music when I called to follow up on the damage mentioned above. 4. This is a ONE man company that will call a friend and rent a Uhaul to move you but charge you professional prices. Trust me, Avoid this company at all costs. Its worth paying $50-$200 more for piece of mind! OH, did I mention they took a dump at my house without asking? Im sorry but this actually happened.
