I had a third tail light out on my jeep. Its the one above the spare tire. I went to Pepboys to get a new bulb and replaced the light. Well, that didnt work. So I asked them if I could borrow a voltage meter to troubleshoot where the problem was coming from. They said, "You must pay a $30 vehicle shop fee to run an electrical test." Thats a bunch of BS if you ask me. I purchased the bulb from them then I can not use a $15 meter to test my connections? So I went two doors over to Friends. The people were soo friendly and helpful! The lady at the front counter directed me to one of their mechanics, and we contined to my car. Well none the less, the mechanic took the liberty of getting under the car without pay and reconnect a wire that fell off a connector. I offered to pay $20 for his help and little time, but he refused to accept it. He said, "I would have done that for anyone, No big deal. Glad I could help" Needless to say, I am going there in the future for my mechanic needs.

I read reviews looking for a local mechanic shop where I can take the car (Honda Civic) I bought for my daughter. The reviews for Friends Auto were amazing. I dropped it off yesterday. I had originally gotten a pre-purchase inspection done and Honda quoted some prices. James team did their inspection today and for 1/4 of the cost, they are repairing everything and replacing all fluids. Also, they found that the Honda people had misdiagnosed a few things and not found some of the issues found at Friends Auto. Honesty drives customers to businesses. That is what helps my business grow and I pride myself in honest quality of care and customer service. I look for these traits in anyone I do business with. I highly recommend James and Friends Auto for your automotive needs. He is honest. His prices are more than fair. And, he gets the job done in a timely manner. Thank you James and I wish you the best as your business continues to grow.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I have been having problems with my car not starting, but only when my husband drives it. I called James and he walked us through some things to check on the phone. And even joked I could probably fix it by not letting my husband drive! (good idea James) Everything checked out ok but my husband was afraid that it would keep happening and that we would be stranded. James kept my car for two days, ran every test and couldnt find anything wrong. I asked what I owed and he said nothing!! After two days I would want some kind of compensation. I begged to pay him at least an hour of labor or something. He refused. You dont find people like that much in todays times. He won a customer for as long as I can drive a car for sure. Honesty and integrity is hard to come by in the business world. James has that and a great sense of humor too. Thanks to James and his wife for a great experience!

Ive been bringing my Mustang GT Convertible to James for years. This guy has become not only my go to master mechanic but also a trusted business partner and friend. I have another close friend that does work on my vehicles for next to nothing as he is a Master LandRover Mechanic. I trust James just as much as my close friend to work on my vehicles. James and Friends Auto is honest about the work they do and the pricing is always better than fair. I have multiple stories of times I thought I needed work done only to have James tell me it wasnt necessary and there was no charge for his time in checking out my vehicle. I took my Honda Civic to Friends Auto because it wouldnt start, even with a brand new battery. I was afraid it was going to be a very expensive starter or alternator problem, but James found that it was only a couple of corroding parts that needed to be replaced! He explained the problem to me in laymans terms, and he completed the work in a matter of hours! In addition, I had also asked him to replace some fluids for scheduled maintenance, and he told me that I could wait a few months more before replacing them. He totally could have ripped me off but didnt! I have never experienced such candor, integrity, customer service, and quality work from a car mechanic before--I feel like a loyal customer after only one visit to his shop!

I found James on map google. I read reviews and decided to give him chance and I am so glad I did. First, James is very easy to work with and very intelligent. He is reasonable and get the work done. I had one issue and took it back and he happily fixed it. I must say its been long time I found skilled mechanic who takes his time to explain everything in plain English and does not rush or push to make decision. This was last year. Ive now been taking all my cars to him and recommend to my friends. Only complaint I have is planning is a must because it takes time to get on his calendar for appointment. But, again the positive is he spends / provide his time and attention to each customer.

If you are in the area, this is your mechanic. My truck broke down and I looked up what mechanics had the best reviews around Duluth. Friends Automotive was the highest rated, so I went with them. James kept me updated throughout the entire process, he even suggested I purchase the fuel pump through the parts store myself so I could get the warranty in my name. He even called the store and gave them the information so I could just call and pay them without waiting for them to look up the part. My truck was done the next day. When i got around to picking it up, the lady at the front desk was very friendly and professional in helping me. You wont regret leaving your vehicle here.

Extremely busy - and for good reason - so keep that in mind when scheduling appointments. Friends Auto is pretty much the quintessential home-town, honest mechanic - if you have an emergency, they will do their best to fit you in to their schedule, otherwise, you may have to wait a bit, as they are quite popular. Honest, fair, and courteous - highly recommended if you live in the duluth area. //Side note: Last time I was there, there was someone who had driven up from south of atlanta, just because of the service and honesty of this mechanic.

This place is awesome. I had a very tall order: 4wd components to be replaced, hubs, brakes, the whole nine- Not to mention it was on a truck that is fairly difficult to get the specs right (ask me how I know) They knocked the ball out of the park here, and even sent home a bag full of the replaced hoses that were still good, in the event that one of the new ones failed or was severed on a trail. Totally unexpected, as the dealership would have charged me to get rid of the very same parts. Cant recommend them enough.
