If I could go below 1 star I wouldnt have hesitated. Around Mid January 2011, I signed for a family Membership at Lifetime Fitness Club in Burr Ridge. When the salesman learned about my concern after having had 2 heart bypass surgeries, he suggested having a personal trainer (8 sessions/month over 4 months ($948 x 3 payments= $2844) In view of my health situation and my wife’s, he also recommended having a “Basal Metabolic Rate test”, BMR, ($ 758.75 for both of us). I did not finish mine due to equipment failure. Frankly I failed to see the relevance. I did not even care to have my wife’s result interpreted either. Over the next several months, I have found out that I am, in no way, able to use most of the equipment, barring the tread mill. It was just too strenuous. On August, 1/ 2011, I called the salesperson and advised him about the situation, and asked for a refund of my personal trainer’s money. I also left him a message and e-mailed him to suspend my account. They continue to charge me through October after sending them a certified mail. The salesman also informed me then informed me that the manager has refused to refund my personal trainer’s money albeit never using it. I wrote both managers, but they both ignored all the emails and did not return any of my calls. On 9/15/11, I went to the facility, and met with the managers. They informed me that I should have cancelled within 3 days of signing the contract. I pointed out that the contract clearly states that if I am unable to use the equipment that I have the right to a full refund. I got a statement from my cardiologist attesting to my physical impairment. Next day I got a phone call that they checked with the legal dept and that a “contract is a contract” ignoring the contract clause about physical impairment. In essence they refused to refund my money. I am taking them to court over this, which doesn’t include of the aggravation, the waste of time, anger and amount of stress they have caused. I refuse to let anyone take advantage of me and or any other unsuspecting customers.

I had nothing but good experiences working out here. This is hands down the nicest gym Ive ever been to and why I put up with the price for so long. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the place is very clean and well kept, and the pool and sauna area was a great post workout spot to wind down. The best part about Life Time though is the convenience. They provide fresh towels, you dont have to bring a locker key, they are open till 1:00am so I am not rushing to finish my workout if I come in late, they have a small cafe and salon there as well, which I didnt utilize often but it was nice to have a place to fuel up if I came there straight from work without stopping at home. As for the negatives, I have none except the price is a little bit excessive, even with the fancy facility and everything that a membership comes with, $90 a month or $1,080 a year is a lot of money for me and I was unable to continue my membership because of that. I would be fine paying more for a nice gym like this, but not that much. I would suggest looking at ways to maybe reign that in and also I would like to suggest making it easier to use the LifeTime dollars that we get with the membership, maybe having it on a file under our name all in one account that we can use wherever we wish, without having to go through the process of going online or to member services to allocate it to whatever we want to use it for on any given day.

I Have been a member at Lifetime since 2004 and typically spend 4-5 days there. The only reason I have stayed a member this long is that there is not another gym close enough to me. Lifetime raised my membership exponentially over the years and has not made any improvements to justify it. Most of the employees are friendly but Lifetime has terrible management. They are happy to listen to members and nod their heads but issues are rarely resolved. A few examples of problems other members and I have encountered have been broken equipment that takes months to get repaired, the spa area constantly be closed, dirty locker rooms, constant theft and break ins to cars, and extremely rude members. On several occasions I have even had several members try to fight me for no logical reason even though Im very respectful, polite, and very big! Also I know for fact that they have had many violations pertaining to their pools and spas from the Illinois Department of Health. Overall the gym has severely gone downhill, dont let its attractive appearance fool you. Lifetime does not have any competition and because of I only see this gym getting worse. If you have other options I strongly I recommend not joining Lifetime Burr Ridge.

I"d been a member of Lifetime Fitness for more than 10 years(Minneapolis) and also very loyal to it . I moved at the end of last year to Illinois and ,unfortunately, Burr Ridge is my closest location. Lap Swimming is impossible between 2 pm and 7:15 Pm.The Junior Olympic size pool is full with elders from 2 to 5 pm who most of the time refuse to share lane so you have to wait some times for more than 30 minutes for a lane to be available. Then, If you get there after 4:15 pm swimming classes start occupying all the lanes and what is worst the the young swimming teachers are very poorly trained by management. There is a rule for lap swimming " never get into an occupied land without letting the person/people already swimming know you are entering. Do this by dangling your legs into water or standing to the side at the end of the lane when they are turning. At LTF Burr Ridge the coaches instruct the kids to jump in to the pool to tell you to get out . Never mind the locker rooms where you have to wait, most of the times, more than 5 minutes to be able to get to you locker. I thinking of driving extra time to try an other location ,otherwise, I will have to enroll with another company

This place is so head and shoulders above any other fitness club. Clean, hot towels, friendly, multiple machines. There are no meatheads using 2 machines at a time. Or tying up machines. Just people that wants to get in shape. The classes they offer for free are worth $75-$150 if you had to pay separately. You can take so many different classes, spin (they have 40 bikes in a special room), Zumba, conditioning, Yoga. All classes run on a weekly schedule and you just show up when you want. The lockers are safe and clean and big. Never have a problem finding an open one. Small down sides, but this is just me. Assuming we live in a walk on the right side society. The staff is very focused and can be just standing in the way often. The entrance has offices on the left and employees are always darting in and out going the wrong way and scaring the hell out of people. There locker room has a left, left, right entrance. These blind corners make walking in or out a constant battle. Maybe I just have people walking the wrong way issues.
